Embarrassing passing, positioning, this is what Mourinho said, "you can't compare the old legend to modern football superstar, the intensity, technique is different and also in nowdays there are a lot of great defensive tactics". People just hyped him cause of the dribbling passed a lot of awful defensive, in that era, player who had speed and accuracy dribbling will be superstar while in modern era, there is Busquets,Pirlo,Kross,Xavi,Iniesta which is there didn't had to much speed but they proved about football with brain and genius football, just imagine Maradona, George Best, Pele and Cryuff face kind of cdm, full back and CB which is have a same speed sometimes faster than forwards and have a great technique
What you've said is true. You can clearly see in this game, that the quick pressing on Maradona, by one or two players, held him up & wiped him out. It was the same thing in Italy, with Napoli. They marked the same way, as Germany did in this match. Hence why his dribbling plays weren't as spectacular, as back in Argentina. Peak Messi wiped out pressing from multiple players & made it look easy. Three - four players surrounding him simultaneously & he skinned them routinely. I seriously doubt Maradona would have done that in the modern game. Especially against these faster, more athletic modern players. He struggled in the Germany match from the quick pressing. It would be worse today. He was spectacular in his era, due to more spaces to drive into.
