Dual Play - Splatterhouse (Turbo Grafx + FM Towns longplay)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 2 сер 2024
- A Dual Play of Splatterhouse, featuring the North American Turbo Grafx-16 version and the Japanese FM Towns version (played on a Marty) running side by side. Some edits had to be made to keep these longplays running relatively close together, but it should be sufficient for those that want to see the differences between the two games.

I really enjoyed how you presented the dual gameplay. I respect the amount of effort put into this.
Thanks!
This scared me more then resident evil , silent hill and alone in the dark combined
Just close your eyes and listen to the music
WOW You're same with me...
You can say that again...
That old one is more scary so i gotta blow away as soon as i can from my memory...
Great job with this comparison video! The TG-16 can certainly hold it's own.
Even when neutered for the US release!
That was really cool to watch. It's interesting to see the differences between the two. I'm surprised at what a great job they did with the PCE/TG16 versions.
Yeah your right, They did VERY well on the PCE version. wow
The FM Towns cover is such an amazing piece of art. I just love it compared to any of the other ports or sequels.
its a full on port of the arcade version
@@systemshocker2875 I wish I could have an FM Towns to play this or an arcade cab, played this at an arcade and it's miles better than the other console ports because of graphics, music and censorship
Well, thank you very much for putting this up! The FM Towns was such a powerful monster. I'm a through and through PCE/TG fanboy, but clearly the FM Towns is arcade perfect. I will say that the TG still holds its own. The colours palette on the TG really shines in comparison, though that's completely subjective.
Again, thank you for going through all this effort! :D
No problem, I appreciate the comment.
Great video^^
Thanks.

Awesome comparison video Austin! I agree the FM Towns is the best version, the detail and colors look amazing compared to the TG-16. Even tho Stage 3 on the TG-16 looks more detailed than the FM Towns version.
The arcade music was so good
Yeah it was!
I admit, I don't understand why the makers of the turbo Graphics version made his mask Red. I'm assuming it's to distinguish him from Jason Voorhees.
They heavily edited the US version, not just the mask. They were likely afraid of being sued for Rick in the game looking like Jason with a white mask and being sued. They also made the cathedral level rated G by taking away the upside down cross and such.
Very nicely done! I love the PCE version even though it's graphically and sound wise inferior, especially the music/mood on stage 3, the arcade version is so creepy! The PCE hit that goal of having an arcade conversion you could practice at home and your tactics would work in the arcade. They also made the womb boss harder on the PCE version, on the arcade version you could just spam sweeps and punches up-close and the bubbles would stay under control, but on the PCE version they would alway escape over your head! Also they made it easier to do a ducking kick on the PCE version by being able to press down-diagonal and attack, on the arcade version you HAVE to press down. Did the FM Town version have easier sweep mechanic as well out of interest?
Are you talking about the slide across the ground? I'm pretty sure in the Towns version it's still down/forward + attack. Unless you mean simply ducking and kicking, I don't recall if you have to hold down, or if it lets you hold diagonally down. I agree though, the PCE version is still a great port all things considered, and it would most certainly have let you practice for the arcade game. I have found a lot of Namco's own arcade ports from this time period allowed that, at least when it came to PCE conversions.
I'm fortunate enough to have the FM towns Marty version and I must say it is truly amazing, the sound is like no other compared to the Tg-16 version
The audio really makes this game. The Turbo Grafx version is serviceable, but there's nothing like the sound of the arcade (and Marty) versions.
yes, most definitely, it sounds so amazing and plays so perfect I can swear, it's just like the arcade very well worth the asking price is in my opinion
towns version wins on both graphics and sound. no contest.
Awesome job on the video Austin. It seems the FM Towns is pretty much arcade perfect compared to the TG16. Wish you did this with the PC Engine version though...
Yeah, I thought about doing the PCE one, but I would have had to record an entirely new playthrough. The footage you see came from both of my Let's Play videos on the Turbo Grafx and FM Towns versions, so that cut down on a bit of work (it was still a lot of work to put together, but I digress).
Gameplay and Talk Understood. You did a great job and I commend the efforts. Recording is one thing and editing is certainly another.
Turbografx 16 Version Gore Is Toned Down Like Corpse Removed And Blade Weapon
That purple mask looks off. In the FMT version, the white mask is a nice contrast, but that's lost with the purple mask.
Yeah, I think that's one of peoples' largest complaints with the US Turbo version.
fm towns shoulda done what nec did. just start releasing arcades back to back.
What's the difference between the US and Japanese PCE versions?
Mostly censorship, like in the church scene. The USA version mask is also maroon instead of white.
10:55 I love how lazy the nec programmers were when they left the candles to float in mid air.
Ya PCE version all the way, hate that purple mask. The FMT was such a great system, which it came to North America.
No it didn't.
FM Towns was in Japan only.
Exactly
which one in your opinion looks grimmer?
With its dark colors, I'd say the Turbo Grafx version.
Gameplay and Talk yeah I thought TG 16 was a little more creepier as well
The purple mask looks stupid
