Dual Play - Castlevania III (NES + Famicom longplay)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 8 вер 2024
- A Dual Play of Castlevania III, featuring the NES/North America and Famicom/Japan versions running alongside one another. Some edits had to be made to keep these longplays running relatively close together, but it should be sufficient for those that want to see the differences between the two games (at least on the first loop) immediately.

I want the Famicom version so bad. Just the Japanese lingual makes it so much better. And that VRC6 chip and sounds. 👌Mastapiece!
It's in the Xbox store version of the Castlevania collection. I don't know how or if that translates to other consoles stores but I got it with my pack was about to give to on it too as Castlevania 2 is the only one I'm interested in playing that I'm any good at.
Just get a Japanese account for the switch
Castlevania Anniversary Collection has it
I know this is a ton of work, but I love videos like this.
I'm glad you enjoy this style. I do plan on making more of these over the next year, so keep an eye out for them.
A lot of work??? It’s putting two videos side by side. How much work can that be. You must be the laziest mofo I’ve ever seen to think that
Wow appreciate all the work put in to make this, really cool to get to see them side by side like this. Plus props on the skills, I've not played this since I was a kid but I could never beat it back in the day.
Yeah, it's a tough game for sure. I've been playing it a ton lately so I've gotten pretty decent at getting through it without too much trouble. I remember it took me forever to finish it for the first time though back in the day.
This truly was a challenge even for me, and I was a small kid.
I had high school kids coming to me for tips on game play, 0.75 a tip, not bad, its how I could afford to rent my nes games.
It's really cool to see another video like this. I remember watching the Playstation and Saturn side by side gameplay of Doom which I will be watching again soon. This game definitely has some interesting minor differences and hearing the NES vs Famicom music is really neat.
I would rather play the JP version of this, because of the DAMN good music effects in it! The EUR version has some good music too, such as the level of the collapsing tower and the Stream level. But my opinion for the best one still goes to JP version.
Appreciate all the work you put in to this. Also jealous of the Famicom sound
Amazing craftsmanship!
Thanks.
Amazing video Austin! It's soo cool to see the differences side by side.
If you can get them to sync right both soundtracks together sounds so cool
I own both versions though the Famicom version is complete with the manual. Both versions are great though the Famicom version's VRC6 definitely adds to the atmosphere.
I enjoy both soundtracks quite a bit. I tend to go with a the Famicom version when I want a more "in your face" kind of sound package. I enjoy the US OST when I want something a little more moody and dreary.
@@GameplayandTalk Thanks for the reply and I appreciate the time and effort it took to make this comparison video!
hi Austin good morning from California man the music difference is so awesome it makes me want to get the famicom now. Castlevania 3 still is my all time favorite then would be the first one Castlevania. have a good day see you later man.
Thanks for the comment Aztec. The music in the Famicom version is excellent and makes that version worth owning.
Nice job! I think you should re-upload a second vid with a commentary track, explaining some of the differences and challenges. For example, Ralph is used more in the Famicom version than Sypha. And how in the Drac fight, Ralph only takes 2 hits instead of Trevor's 4. Or how Syfa had to go all the way back to the start in the NES version of the Drac fight.
I was looking forward to this
Okay, Konami, you did a very nice job when you did the NES version, because it could have been a half-assed port with the soundtrack missing a channel or lagging of some sort. But hey, CV3 had its soundtrack rearranged completely, which brought us the nicest version of Rising, Clockwork, and Pressure.
Im sorry but the music in the US version really ruins the experience of what is otherwise a masterpiece. The Japanese version just nails the atmosphere VRC6 chip or not. The drum samples could have been the same as in Japans iteration.
Agreed, the music in the Japanese version is so much better. Aquarius in particular comes to mind, as well as Anxiety, Riddle, Pressure, all of them smoke the US version's soundtrack. The VRC6 chip was put to some ass-kicking usage here. It just isn't even a contest. The only version of Aquarius that outshines this one is the one heard in Castlevania The Adventure ReBirth.
@TheVoiceOfTruth Both were cartridge games.
@TheVoiceOfTruth The Famicom one wasn't for the disk system, it was a standard cartridge that ran on the base unit. In fact, you wouldn't be able to replicate CV3J's OST on the FDS as it only has one extra channel versus three with the VRC6, though since the FDS uses wavetable synthesis you could (in "lower" quality) replicate on of the VRC6's channels; either one of the two 8-width pulse wave channels or the single sawtooth channel.
As much as i love how the JP one sounds.
I think they did a great job trying to port it to inferior hardware with the same tunes
Castlevania 3 might be the best of the nes trilogy (maybe) and while the music is still good it just doesn't compare to castlevania 1 and castlevania 2
Favourite secondary weapon: Boomerang/crucifix
Favourite level: Clockwork
Favourite companion: Syfia
Favourite boss: Grant as Ghost Pirate
Favourite monster: Dragon Pillar
Least favourite weapon: Stopwatch
Least favourite level: Ghostship
Least favourite companion: Alucard
Least favourite boss (excluding Dracula): Cyclops and Death
Least favourite monster: Pirate Skeletons/Zombies and Fleamen/Imps.
I would agree on all, but I think knife is definitely the worst sub-weapon in the game. It was too frustrating to lose cross by accidentally picking up the knife
@@rickybor493 I agree to disagree. The stopwatch only last a few seconds. The Dagger/knife at least has distance.
thanks for the video
Great job? Yeah music in the famicom version is insane.
I actually like em both
nice video once again! thx
Thanks!
Вообще-то американская версия более разширенная. В ней работают пароли. И второй квест можно выбрать также паролем. А в японской версии во второй квест можно сыграть только когда пройдешь игру в обычном режиме.
I watched this again.
Nice job. I love the music from Japan's version but what the NES version lacks in musical quality it makes up for in challenge. All the same this game was not as tough to beat as the first CV in my opinion. Congratulations you win, I whipped that subscribe button.
Thanks for subbing!
Pretty similar
the fancier percussion on the japanese soundtrack is pretty cool, but i like the cleaner 8-bit sounding instruments on the american version better. it's just weird because i'm not used to the japanese version's sound, some tracks sound better with the "enhanced" sound and some don't i guess. thanks for putting this up! :P
I'm a bit mixed on the differences as well. I think ultimately I prefer the USA soundtrack, as it has a darker tone throughout and it seems to fit the theme better. But like you said, there are some tunes in the Japanese version that sound better. Some are really beefy and feel wide.
@@GameplayandTalk I'd say the rest is just fine, but Aquarius really suffers from the NES conversion. It loses most of it's power. Then again it might just be because I heard the Famicom version first.
I see a strange difference in stage 8 (Deva Ju - Vampire Killer)
The North American version has a statue with clothes on, in the Japanese version the statue is nude.
There was occasional censorship in the North American versions of the Castlevania games, most noteworthy with Castlevania III and IV.
The great adventure of ralph belmond, syfa velnundes, Adrian F. Tepes and Grant dunasty
When it comes to good old classic games without censorship, America will always suck and Japan will always be better, end of story.
So what is the difference ?
Famicom has better audio quality than the NES because the Famicom has the VRC6 chip. Also, the narration for the prologue in NES looks so half-assed like it was written by a kindergartener, while the Famicom has much more detailed narrative that it adds more depth to the story.
Watch the Famicom version in:
ua-cam.com/video/Cw0l0MUttsk/v-deo.html
0:32 Now that is just lazy writing for the NES version.
Famicom is better it's the best music and intro, items and others. And this music is same music at castlevania dawn of sorrow Julius mode
I see the gameplay, where is the talk?
Ah, I see what you did, you alternated the tracks between U.S. and Japanese tracks, clever
where's the talk?
Meh.
I prefere sound PAL
