  • Facebook is a false reality. It is creating insecurities and anxiety in people of all age groups. It drains valuable time from your life. If you are a facebook addict, you need to ditch it quickly. Improving yourself as a person, not just a male of the species, requires forgetting about facebook.

I have no cell phone and I don't think I will ever have. I said good by to television watching 10 years ago and I do not miss it ! I am not addicted to Facebook or any other social media. I use Facebook but I developed my own filter and I am not falling into stories posted there. In real life there is many, many fake people with wonderful stories to tell just like on Facebook. Maintain connection with natural environment , it is the most important thing what you can do. No tv watching, not being glued to cell phone, no listening to news on the radio, no newspaper reading. believe me life is better that way. Blessings.

I an Facebook and Twitter free for 3 Months. I had Facebook for 10 years and Twitter for about few months. I used to enjoy these services, but last year my joy disappeared. So I finally deleted them because I felt like they were affecting my mood. Now it is sure better and I have been out more (last summer mostly Facebook).
I too have no TV for 3 Years next month, no FM (Radio) for 5 Years and I usually just stream content. Plenty of good content on UA-cam from where you can learn something and music I listen from Play Music with subscription. I don't think music is bad 'cause you can leave the house with it and do sports or something.
Sometimes I rent movie here and there from Play Movies, but I don't spend hours and hours sitting on the couch watching TV. Now I also reduced talking with my "online friends". Especially ones I don't even know a name. Why I should talk to them, I started to actually enjoy real life conversation the most after leaving Facebook facade.
I have cell phone, but actually it is only because in Finland you need internet and number, because mostly everything is digital here. You need to have internet to pay even bills. I have basic 4G plan on my phone and I just share it to my laptop, not subscribing for stable connection that is overpriced in my opinion for my 95 GB a month.
I also don't read news, don't watch news, don't follow any sports. Some people call me crazy of not having TV, or that I am dumb because I don't know what's happening around the world. I always tell them why I should know what happens in China today. Especially what I can do to improve that? You can do nothing by following fake news.
I have smartphone, but outside I never use it, other than music. I dumbed it down by removing almost every app I don't need. If it can't be deleted, I disabled it. I am glad that you live lifestyle like mine. I think more people should live like that. Live like us. Live better. Live more intentionally. Good luck, enjoy your life!

I left because I have a 4 year old and a 1 year old daughter. I realized how sick it was to be posting pictures of them. Their entire lives basically is online and I don't want that for them anymore because I care too much. I know I wouldn't have wanted that for my childhood. It's a false sense of privacy because you had to fine tune your privacy settings but in all reality once something is online it is there forever.

Completely agree, sir. I deleted mine 2 days ago. What really upset me is the fact that when I was thinking about the future, I imagined what my graduation day might be like. This is the sad part - I was actually sitting wondering how many likes my pics would get.
I mean just think about that for a minute. I didn't think about how my picture would look framed on my mum's wall and how proud she would be, I didn't think about how proud my dad would be after busting his balls to support me as a 29 year old mature student. I thought about how many likes I would get on Facebook and what my 167 "friends" would think.
How sad. I'm already genuinely happier after just 2 days and I haven't even been tempted to go back (lasted about 4 hours in the past)
Zuckerberg has inadvertently created a monster, and this man is right. Delete your Facebook NOW!

I've been deactivated 98 % of the time since 2012. I found the last few years when i'd pop on for a few days, all it has become is a humor image board/sappy quote picture board. I'm quite capable of finding that content on my own and don't need 'friends' to provide it to me. My own personal FB has become totally worthless.

I got rid of my account for almost a year and remade a new one to connect with REAL friends and family, and to my surprise, I no longer feel the need to check it every day. I have less than 100 friends and I don't care. Why? Because I can now spend more time in my life doing productive things! Social media is the downfall not only of general conversation but relationships as well. Social media ruined my last long term relationship, and it was a terrible wake up call.

I can't speak for the younger generation, however my generation (57), it is an amazing way to socialize with folks you would otherwise not see ever again, so to share some good ole times stories every once in a while.with long lost friends, globally is pretty cool. Thankfully, our generation didn't have all these gadgets. Like anything, moderation is the key. I even copied my kindergarten and grade 2 class photo offs of a former classmates wall. We were poor and couldn't afford photos back then, so finding a nugget like this means so much to a dude like me. Yes they were black and white, before color. And yes dinosaurs were still roaming the earth.

Still a relevant message - even to me, a middle-aged woman. I am on there somewhat due to being a performer and collaborator with others and to see what events are going on, but all I have to do is start scrolling and I get pretty depressed and feel bad about my life because it doesn't measure up in so many ways by now. I can't even get a date with anyone decent or sane where I live, but I see a dangerously obese man in his 70's getting married to a normal-sized woman in her 40's and there goes my mood, etc....And then everyone kissing everyone's ass over dumb pictures and stupid posts that have little intellectual or creative content anymore. The whole thing is dumbing so many people down and turning people into narcissists and fan club bystanders. I can't and I am glad. The more I stay off of there, the better I feel.

I use FB for other reasons than doing things with "friends", i join groups to discuss my favorite music. I used to have several hundred Facebook friends but I eventually unfriended or unfollowed nearly all of them

I was in FB music groups for that very reason, after 7 or 8 years I realized the feedback was less than positive, and only mainstream music got the most hits. Blah!.

I've been on for only a couple of months, and am very happy to be reconnected with friends I haven't seen for years and who live thousands of miles away.
But, if you use it to fill a void, like say, socializing in real time, and chatting with "friends" you'll never meet, then I guess these FB haters have a point. On the other hand, don't blame FB or other social media if you don't have a life.

***** The point is, people get distracted by things that are going on somewhere else, rather than paying attention to their world. People who do have a life are distracted from living it by taking pictures all the time. Having "a life" and being addicted to the false world he talks about are not mutually exclusive.

not entirely agreeing with you. It's a vicious circle, what fb gives people take and since there's not many rules of conduct on fb anyone can do the fuck they want.
Not to mention the data manipulation, just look on line and inform yourself, there's article everywhere on how fb is actually controlled by CIA and crap of that sort...that said, I also believe that people exaggerate and don't control their behaviour , believing that fb is their private playground..idiots. So..yeah...fault on both sides.

I was so addicted to facebook, I've literally "deactivated" it several times, and in the next few days logged back on. So, does anyone have this problem? Deactivate and then reactivate? Have you wondered how to get rid of it for good without being tempted to log back on? Well, I figured it out. All I did was go to my settings on fb and had my mom change my password where only she knows what it is. Mom deleted hers a year ago, so she is with me on this. Then, what you do is once you have a new password (that only someone you trust knows what it is), get them to log back on to your fb. Then, you go up to the help button and type in "delete my facebook permanently". Read down until you see "let us know". Then you click that and a new tab window will open where you can DELETE permanently....not just DEACTIVATE. Click delete and they will prompt you to put in your password. Mom put "her password' in and clicked save. Wah-lah!! I'm deleted. It takes two weeks to permanently delete it, that's why it was so tempting to log back on once addicted. They give you that two weeks just in case "you change your mind or need your fix". It sucks! Well, to say the least, I cannot log back onto my account because only my mom knows my password now. I'm excited about this. I will tell you, the scrolling of facebook feeds was not my only problem, but the thousands and thousands (literally) of dollars I've spent on games on facebook over the years. It's unreal, insane, and I'm fed up. Goodbye facebook. You are now off my shoulders and I will not miss you!

Just an average healthy, sound, developing, real, sensible, loving winner of a man. I feel happy to see and listen to you. Thanks for your nice way of telling tghe truth. i tend to be to stern, because I am used to not be heard and am traumatised.
I got help to make 1/2 Fakebook account 7 years ago. Requests to be my friend started to pollute my screen, before I had even started an account, much less posted anything to like. Also suggestions of acquaintances with whom i had no and wished no contact, as well as people whom I had only written or phoned with, and felt uneasy to suddenly see thier faces. Some abusive people whom I really did not want to see or interax´ct wirth, and am sure they did not either. So I thought FB did this fakely in orde to get me hooked. It put me off totally instead, stressing and disappointing.
I am sure there are serious people with serious content on FB, just as there are on UA-cam.
I feel elated to read the comments of so many sensible people here, and happy there are so many good, natural, loving and serious people in America! I have had a wrong picture, .

Another problem is that too many people add to many people to their facebook that aren't technically their friends. If you're looking at other people pictures or status updates and it's making you feel depressed instead of happy for that person, you need to face the fact that you're probably not very good friends with that person to begin with. If you delete them, and they confront you about it, just say that it felt like you were invading their privacy and you thought it would be for the best if you didn't get involved with them of FB. There is a new follow feature now on FB which helps. Just don't look at other peoples stuff that doesn't concern you.

People changed to become more superficial and weakened since started Fakebook, iPad, microwave cell phone, like most people who have, I am sad and worried, ppl look down in their cold, blue phones, look unattractive, miss contact, I feel sad, think I am insulted, treated like air in the street. Before , how nice to just see the face of a stranger, maybe meet glance and even exchange a smile of human recognition, adding to each other's sense of safety and comfort in a very simple way. Kids brought up on Senile-Phones become cold, hard, stiff, weak, shallow, unhappy, unable to play and create. Adults too, but they have a buffer and a better start behind them. Kids get old'people's eye diseases from cell phones. Apart from cancer, but that is only in 10 years time, so that is not to be worried about. urgent to spread good info.
