    Rad intro, John, as usual. A little levity along w/ a dead-serious message on preparedness. No excuses for not having an IFAK w/ chest seal, TQ, hemostatic gauze or even the 'kitty litter' powder hemo agent. Whatever gets holes plugged, NOW.
    PS - Wow, man ...a most genuine thank you for pricing that IFAK so damn affordably. You're a class act, John.

      @@TimMillard Indeed - and thank God for better hemostatic tech. I'm referring to the thousands (or more) of neglected, yet sometimes carried kits that are out there, potentially being the only thing between a dead pt or a live one. I always thought the kitty litter hemostatic was less than ideal.

    Skinny Medic had a chest seal that had been folded for more than three years. Worked just fine. Most recent protocol is for vented chest seals anyway. So... don't worry about it if you have to fokd your chest seals. But I think this is a great step up from the next best from Blue Force gear.
    Great job WPS.

    I agree with your opinion on medical shears! A bit of trivia. Those style of trauma shears originated during the Viet Nam Conflict. The medics wanted something cheap, strong,sharp and light. They will cut leather boots, a penny and paper. The original design was made in West Germany.

    Hey John, I'm an active duty combat medic and have an upgrade suggestion for the trauma sheers. Long story short a hook knife is a hands down better/faster tool for the job. I personally use the Benchmade Rescue 8 Med Hook. I understand that specific one is probably too expensive for non professional use. I can "trauma naked" someone in a fraction of the time using my hook knife. I'm a long time listener and love the channel. Keep up the great work. God bless.

    • @1olddirtroad
      @1olddirtroad 11 місяців тому +4

      I have one also and they work well. I always find that old worn out BDU's are a great way to train getting someone naked really quick. I always carry at least 2 pairs of shears because well you know

    • @SeraStaplz
      @SeraStaplz 9 місяців тому +1

      Do you feel the hook knife is intuitive enough to use for someone with low to no training? Like if you had to talk someone through it. What about using it on yourself? Also, I was curious about whether or not you think the exposed handles would pose a snag point issue for scenarios like vehicles?

    • @savannahbrown182
      @savannahbrown182 9 місяців тому +1

      @@SeraStaplz Thank you for the questions! Ok, as far as ease of use goes. My honest opinion from experience is that in any situation the hook knife is easier to use and does a superior job. As for the possibility of catching on things in a tight environment like a car. That issue may be there no matter what tool you use. With that being said. Many hook knives come with a sturdy and low profile sheath. That does a great job of holding it securely to whatever aid bag you're using.
      At the end of the day, whatever tool you train with is going to be the best for you. No tool is going to magically save you or your battle buddies live without training. I'm just suggesting that if you're serious about learning a first aid trauma skills set. A hook knife will serve you better in the end.
      Warrior Poets Forever!

    I love the concept of the trauma shears as the pull handle, unfortunately I do like having minimal retention inside as well as more room for a few other items. I like having the ability to attach the handle of ifak to something on individual (PC, Belt, Uniform, via carabiner) and not loose everything in it that wasn't used within those first few minutes of casualty care.

    From a Navy Corpsman perspective, smaller isn't better. This kit, like many others that are taking the " micro " approach, is better than nothing. But it leaves no room for error, and can easily be lacking in a severe bleed [ penetrating trauma ].
    Yes, the IFAK is a one person kit, and the wounded individual should have his own, to be used by YOU on HIM. That said, there may be more than one hole, and that requires more than one item of gauze for packing and a covering dressing.
    Imagine the look on the face of the man you're providing aid to, when he discovers that you can't plug that second bleed in an opposing extremity because the kit you or he has is the smallest kit known to mankind. Just my 2 cents worth.

    If youre not in a warzone with people who have already been screened and denied over diabetes... you need glucose gel in your med kit.
    Glucose gel comes in packets with 15g of glucose. 15g of glucose is the suggested dosage for hypoglycemic diabetic shock. And gel (unlike tablets) can be administered to an unconscious patient.
    Add glucose gel packets to your med kit. You will be around more diabetics than GSWs anywhere outside the military.

    All in, pretty competitive design debating on ordering one just for the ability to manually set my own compression/tightness.
    Id like to see how well it carries a larger, more complete, set of supplies.
    Pros and cons from what ive seen so far, compared to small form(belt designed) IFAKs
    Pro:
    Users choice on tightness!!!! This is massive if you want to hold more than just the absolute bare minimum and still get it out(looking at you BFG MTN kit who struggles to carry much at all without being a PITA to pull out)
    Built in sheer and TQ holder
    Cons:
    No identifier as medical supplies(you aren't always the one using them on yourself, good for others to see where your med shit is)
    No retention/organization of supplies once opened
    Base supplies are little lacking so you may want to beef it up a little which you can do without worries given the first "pro" (mylar blanket, Olaes/Israeli bandage, additional sets of gauze... etc) *if you purchase the add on for medical items*

    I was considering the GBRS or the Haley strategic med kit but this by far blows both of them out the water, will be ordering mine soon!

    Just got my full kit in green. Puts together really easy, and is exactly what I was hoping for. Great job on the med kits!

    Ordered up 2 can’t wait to add it to the belt and have one for my off-road motorcycle camping adventures!
    Yes the luggage system I use @moskomoto has molle spots so we will now only be short a “boo boo kit” lol
    Thanks for creating a solution to multiple “hobby’s” for us in one!

    Should have left an opening in the middle of the belt loop option to make it practical for use with with a 2 belt system so the hook and loop can mate up to avoid sag.

    Stuff jumbled in a cargo pocket is much more preferable. Nice kits make you soft and complacent.

    To be fair the only difference between the "training" TQs and a real one is the color. Blue just means you know its been used a few times and might not be as effective.
    The one in the video is still in the wrapper so it would be just as good

    Into was funny but there nothing wrong with the training color tourniquet in case anyone was wondering. All it does is signify that the tourniquet could have potentially been used already.
