    I agree we shouldn't romanticise shyness, it's not the same as humility. It's believing your ideas aren't good enough to be heard and you're placing the authority on anyone around you to shut you down on a whim. Can't be constructive that way, it's degrading

      @CGoody5642 6 років тому +78

      Joshua Pimm as one who is extremely shy around anyone I don't already know somewhat well, you are completely correct. It's nothing but a self imposed handicap. The fear of embarrassment is much worse than the actual embarrassment you'll suffer in many cases.

      I'd glorify the shy people over what it is you people are and are doing. It's like a crusade has began to try and turn everyone into fucking warriors. Like Sun Tsu did to his War Concubines. He cut the heads off woman to make them see he was serious and turning them into soulless killing machines instead. That's your people's agenda. Turning us all into heartless, soulless guardians against the outside world, fuck our feelings and freedom to live as sheep. Time to wake us up yeah? Oh and everyone is on the autism spectrum or autistic these days, YEAH FUCKING RIGHT.

      I think I owe most of my intelligence and creativity to the fact that I grew up with no social life due to how shy I was at the time. I don't think people romanticise shyness as much as they instinctively associate certain positive traits with shyness, even if shyness in itself is undeniably a flaw.

In a more stable home kids grow up realizing people have different ideas and tolerances but they love you and it'll be ok. He also sounds like someone who hasn't raised kids, lol. What's important is that they try. For example, the whole "mom said no, so I asked dad" dynamic is usually unhealthy. Fortunately human beings (children included) are very resilient and adaptive so they can usually handle an imperfect environment just fine; simply including consistency in your framework or thought process will help a lot. Your story about the music program perfectly explains the sad truth of arts programs: they're made for people who are independently wealthy or who know enough about the college system to know where to find all the good scholarships. Music, painting, sculpture, any type of creative art that involves public presentations are the worst at scheduling.

    Destiny states that he thinks being a shy person is a bad thing, I completely agree. In my younger years, I was the shyest person I've ever met, and that habit only became worse. So that went on for a few years and now it's made me an anti-social, which goes hand in hand with extremely terrible social anxiety in my case. I'm in 10th grade now studying extremely hard for each grade in my honors English class, because I'm so shy, so anti-social, that I can't say anything when we discuss books, causing me to make a low grade for that event, lowering my average grade drastically. I expect these kinds of things will make it difficult to find a job and live in general. From a child living such hardships, please, don't make the same mistakes my mother made.
    EDIT: Thank you for the video Destiny I loved it!

      There is nothing wrong with being shy, but if you feel it is interfering with your development and well being then it is something you should address. If shyness persists after you've tried to overcome it, it would be worth seeing somebody about it. Typically it won't just magically go away on its own. Perhaps you school has a counselor you could see for free.

    I dont understand why people criticize destiny for saying that you have to make people less shy. Being shy/introverted can destroy peoples lives, not being able to naturaly communicate with people because of your shyness and not being able to engage in social interactions can fuck up your career, social life and overall life experience. Of course you could let your kid sit alone in his room for his entire childhood but not encouraging him to interact with other kids to possibly find friends and new opportunities will fuck him up in the long term. I wish my parents would’ve helped me deal with my social anxiety when i was a kid, i had to literally re-learn handling social situations in college because of the lack of social confrontations as a kid.

    I used to be the stupidest guy ever from grade 5-9. Man I was racist and genuinely thought I was a nice guy. I was polite but I was 100% an asshole. I moved to a co-ed school in grade 10 and finally started to chill out. I had my first real relationship and that really helped me cope. She really pushed my boundaries and sorta forced me to get a job and stop fucking around (age 19 after a gap year). I worked at a call centre and lived on my own. My gf didn't get along well with my mom and I had sorta ostracised my family. I remember dreading work because I was grossly unqualified and shitting bricks all day hoping I didn't get difficult clients. Anyway I quit the job and my gf left me. I still kinda miss her 2 years later which is a bit pathetic, but I'm stronger than ever before. And have become much more genuine and confident. She really transformed my life and I'm so grateful for that. What a weird fucking world

    I 100% agree that picky eating is a negative trait. My little brother went through a long period where he wouldn't eat anything that wasn't home made and that was a nightmare for my folks. He also managed to offend friends of the family who owned a restaurant because he would go out to eat with us and refuse the food!

    Music sounds like it's on another level though.

      Vegard Fjeldberg it's harder than you think to get the power over someone to make medical decisions for them. His grandma was going (I assume by herself? He didn't say) by herself to all those doctors appointments. Plenty of witnesses that could verify her mental state as being stable enough to be independent.

    Im a somewhat picky eater, it is bad, its the worst actually and i wish i wasnt built this way. As ive grown up ive gotten over a lot of my food fears gradually, but there are still foods i cannot eat without gagging every time i try them again. Its always been somewhat holding me back in specific social situations. Its a good thing to prefer quality food, but when there are too many specific things that you are unable to consume its nothing but negative

    Those low credit classes will fuck you. At my quarter system CC 12 units was full time, and one quarter I tried doing 12.5 units spread across 5 classes. I ended up dropping two of them because the 2 unit class (publishing the school's literary magazine) and 1.5 credit class (intro to guitar) each took more of my time than some of the 5 unit classes I'd taken. I also ran into scheduling conflicts that quarter because those two classes had out of class obligations. I missed the release for the literary magazine because it was scheduled during my final for another class for example.

    Yeah I'm only in high school and I'm not very good at saxophone I just treat it as a side for fun thing more then like I want to go hard and be super good and shit but I looked up the college shit just for shits and giggles and it's like 20-30 hours of class a week and then obviously you're going to need to put in like 15-30 hours of practicing, not to mention you constantly have to buy shit like reeds and spend another 1-2 hours a week cleaning and maintaining your instrument so if you do a fulltime job you could theortically be spending 100 hours (assuming you aren't in some marching band shit as well which would add another like 40-50 hours meaning you'd be getting a nice 18 hours of sleep per week if you wanted to be on top of everything completley and have a full time job, also as a saxophone player you're supposed to know how to play all of the different types of saxophones obviously so you should set aside like another 1-2 hours a week for each of the main 4 to make sure you can just pick one up and play it no problem if need be) and that means you have no free time and still are getting less then average sleep all to make garbage money unless you're a savant or like okay money but focusing more on the musical theory and teaching side of things rather then playing your instrument

    Dude, I FEEL you on the music major bullshit. I wanted to do vocal music ed like my mom but couldn't handle it mostly because I had to attend 12 performances per semester for ZERO credits, but if I didn't go to enough concerts, my private vocal lesson grade dropped by a full letter. The fuck is that?? It made me start to HATE music so I switched to English ed instead. Jesus, it was the absolute worst. I was in so many choirs, too. Plus music theory, plus master class, plus performances, plus diction class... AND THEN I had gen ed stuff like biology and geology and shit. NO THANKS!

  • @BrockleeSwag
    @BrockleeSwag 6 років тому +4

    Being an introvert is not a flaw and forcing someone to be something they are not can have even worse effects down the road. I would suggest you read a book such as quiet: the power of introverts in a world where people cant stop talking. As far as being a picky eater making him try things is the best way. I would advise though not to make him finish things he doesn't like. Some of it just takes time and some things you just wont like. I can say this as someone who was very picky as a child.
