I have this knife, and absolutely love mine.
Thanks for sharing your awesome videos ! learned a lot of stuff, techniques and great skills you share with your viewers ! You rock Brian !!!
Another excellent video thank you Brian.
Glad you enjoyed it
Nice review on this blade. 👍
Really good knife, had one for a few months now, the jimping on the handle is used to help grip when deploying the knife out the sheath, good review
Makes sense. Thanks
Possibly my favorite knife brand. Buying one is smart money since most if not all models require no upgrades.
Yep
Brian’s Law: “It wouldn’t be a knife review without a fire.”
Exactly
Video so nice, I watched it twice. I don’t love the knife, but some time listening to Bryan was a great way to start the day. Thanks, Bryan.
Aw shucks. You are too kind.
Always enjoy your videos buddy
I appreciate that
Great review Brian! Cool looking knife!
Thanks!
Thank you, enjoyed !!!
Glad you enjoyed it
I just put a scout pack together and this was my knife of choice to include as my cutting tool option
cool
I e had this knife for a couple of years now. Great knife. Mine did. It have the sharpened swedge. I also think my handles are a little different than the tested model. Mine came with a great Kydex sheath. !
Nice video!! That’s also a sharp looking watch!!
It is this one amzn.to/3av4yHK
Thanks, Bryan. I went back and forth between this and their Camp Creek when they came out. I ended up going with a Camp Creek, then forgot all about these.
Good one too
Awesome video and like the knife.
So do I
Another great review on the American made TOPS knife. It no mora for sure but still a nice knife, I like the way the handle can be worn sideways instead of up,and down, and it threw very well. I like this Bowie knife Brian. Thanks for taking the time to review it for us. Stay safe friend.
You too
this is a great companion knife - i like everything about it especially the sheath - the pot hook is a nice touch - solid little blade
yep
I didn't finish watching this because even though I don't use a knife for prying, this one could definitely pry open my wallet.
;-)
Great Video!
Thanks!
I'm glad that you brought it up again at the end that a knife doesn't have to be hair shaving sharp to perform woodcraft chores, like feather sticks.
but it is cool when it is that sharp. But often an edge that sharp is more easily damaged. It dependsa lot on the grind
Be picking one up next month. Good video, brother.✝️👍🏻
I just ordered one
Bryan Stevens, thank you for your knife reviews. I have purchased this knife because of your review. I have been on the fence about purchasing this knife for years. Today I pulled the trigger. I wanted your vendors to see this comment. Thank you.
I thought I’d seen all your fixed blade videos , that’s a cool knife ,
Great knife.
yep
LOVE MY TOPS!!! I purchased my Backpacker with an unsharpened swedge. Then I put a 90 degree edge on that for fero rod use. Great little knife!
Cool
What exactly did you do to make it work easy with a ferro
@@iiSup3rior I just took a small file and worked the back edge of the knife to put a sharp 90 degree edge that scrapes a ferro rod
@@troymanning3150 did you treat it with anything to prevent rust
@@iiSup3rior nope…just kinda like the edge of your knife. You could put a drop of oil on it if you wanted
Nice blade and the dig of warrior poet was funny the hair good vid glad to see all is well with you folks down south
I am scheduled in a class with John the end of May.
@@SurvivalOnPurpose I would love to do that someday hopefully all this is over by then and you can take the class
It is a great knife the only modification I did is sharpen the spine about 2” so I could throw some good sparks and the notch is awesome for taking pots off the fire if you need to. I wish The handle was about an inch longer Overall it’s a great knife. Been using it for acouple months now I also bought the kydex piggy back ferro rod holder for the sheath. Great review
Cool
I have this knife. I love it.
At first i disliked the handle. But it grew on me.
It is a solid little knife
Very good knives, my choice would be the tops Tahoma 👌
I have an old 1990’s Japan made SOG double edge knife that I really like, but I just don’t find much use for double edge knives. This looks like a nice one though.
Amazing video!! I would like to know what is your opinion about Bear Grylls Ultimate Pro knife?
I have never even held one. I'd buy a Strongarm or Prodigy instead
Slick Looking Blade there, Bryan, Keep Band Aids Handy ! Stay Safe Friend ! ATB T God Bless
You too Terry. Wash up
My first thought was the handle looks short. My other first thought was what’s with the gimping half way down the handle?😎
it is compact
Hultafors OK4 and opinel no 7 inox is a super hiking combo for those who like to travel light (lose the OK4 for ultralight)
we like the throwing part
me too
Good job Brain , i like what i see so far about the knife and weight would be okay to pack.. I'm like you i never go into the forest without a fixed blade knife .. Of Tops , i like to carry my Silent Hero or the Smoke Jumper for heavier work ..
cool
I hadn't paid much attention to that brand other than thinking they were just high end exoencive knives but that one caught my attention. Not at a bad price either really.
Thehy are excellent knives.
I love blades very much but this is the blade that I wish to Baro it😍😍
Bryan, Tops makes great knives. What is your throwing stand made from? Is it fence posts or two by fours? I want to build one when it warms up.
2 x 4 s
@@SurvivalOnPurpose Thank you
The "whoops" at 12:33 made me laugh really hard for some reason
Glad I could make you laugh
What kind of sharpener would you recommend for something like this or the browning battle bowie?
depends on whether you want a compact field sharpener or a larger home sharpener. Whatever you would normally use would work fine. I am going to do a sharpening video very soon.
@@SurvivalOnPurpose something I can throw in a backpack for outdoors, camping, disappearing of need be. Not anything for home.
I love Tops knives …and that’s a cool one ..and I like the hat Brian what is the brand name of the hat
It's a Tilley. ua-cam.com/video/KBEbPkhhq8Y/v-deo.html (I think the camo is discontinued and they may have changed the warranty because the company has changed hands since I made that video.
I got big old mitts. But I still really like this. I think if you paired it with the Tahoma Field knife you couldn't go wrong. A can of Seafoam Deep Creep to keep the rust down and Id be in! Great video!
The Tahoma is still one of my all time favorites
Bryan what watch are you wearing in this video
This one amzn.to/3av4yHK
Made in the USA! Now that We are done building all the survival bags, packs and toss items for in the vehicles with low cost Schrade's and Morakniv's I've been going to TOPS and Buck knives so far. Wouldn't mind having the Backpacker Bowie. I am surprised it didn't seem to shave. Good weight for the size and with a touch up on the edge it should chop better. ?????????? One question Bryan. Do you have anything like a Work Sharp? I hope to get one this year and to date I have been putting really good edges on my knives, hatchets, axes and weed cutting blades with a drill and 5" sanding disc. I did get a Buck 656 Large Pursuit. Came not razor sharp yet will shave hair, full tang, good chopper. 4.5 blade, 9.5 long, 6.2 oz,o 0.140 thick with some SS properties somewhat rust resistant. Polyester sheath but seems well built till the snap decides to fail as most do. Jimping at the mid point of the spine seems for off hand use. Used quit a bit and it is holding up really good. The green colors match all the backpack gear I have in one setup.
I'v got one but I rarely use it. I'm old school. I do really liek the Warthog Sharpener I reviewed a while back, except I prefer the steel version
Due to the differential heat treat the spine is not hard enough to strike a Ferro rod.
Handy, nice knife. Thanks for showing us, Brian. BTW, I may have missed it, however, I think an approx. price point is important, too, in a knife review.
I thought I did. Check the description
@@SurvivalOnPurpose I watched the video again, listened closely during the "specs" description, etc. and still missed it if a price point was there.
Damn was that a "bullseye" or what Brian? Nice throw buddy!
Every now and then
I like it
me too
You always have the best knife reviews!!!! Have you thought of reviewing survival lilly's knife?
He did, the APO1
ua-cam.com/video/Vt_TY1D0fW0/v-deo.html
I have more Tops knives than I care to admit. I had not seen this model before. Your promos are just as good as John's although he does have the hair.
That is nice of you to say but I knwo when I am outclassed. His promos are better than most videos on UA-cam. I'm signed up to take a class with him at the end of May.
Survival On Purpose I talked with him at the 2019 NRA Convention. He is very nice.
Nice companion knife more suited for self-defense.
Seemed to do well at regular knife stuff
I wouldn't use it for self defense...That pot grabber would get stuck,I can use a stick to grab a pot.....
Great video like any other survival on purpose. Great design of tops but i don't like1095 steel . Better if they manufacture in A2 or D2 Steel. Thanks for review
Looking again the video. I'm going to put on my whish list the knife .
Very well made balanced and easy to go not to big .
Thanks again for share the information.
Do you like this knife better than the Mora Garberg?
Better? I like them both but I especially like that this one is Made in the USA
Great channel and review like always Brian, but I didn't here U say the $$$? $95 on Amazon. Ordering it. Needs diamond stone & leather stropping shsrpening pre use though.
Yep
That is a nice knife for general use, but not made as a bushcraft knife though. I have many knives of various types and manufacturers also and do love each of them. I don't have a Top's knife yet, but would not mind having one with a 6" blade since I already have more than my share of general purpose knives and some bushcraft knives also.
TOPS makes great knives
It is strange but complet, it has all for bushcraft activities
Yep
I mustache you a question?
;-)
I use a bk24 no longer made by Ka-Bar D2 steel I have told people you don't need a big knife you just need to know what your doing with it
Cool knife
Looks like an interesting knife, at almost 10oz I can not see taking it backpacking, camping maybe but not backing... I’ll stick to Moras for backpacking.
Sean Keaney agreed.
I like having a solid full tang knife.
@@SurvivalOnPurpose : I like full tang knives too especially for camping and hunting, but for backpacking "Pounds=Pain"... about as large as I will go is my Mora FireKnife, at just under 4oz, I get a fixed blade knife with a fero rod... the handle has always seemed dubious[from looks] but in 5-6 years of use it is still rock solid.
Just get a bk 18 with micarta scales
Hello Bryan, I hope that all's well with everyone/thing! "WOOOHOOO, BULLSEYE"!👍👍 Sci•en•tif•ic!! Supercalifradgalistexpiallidoushis(sp?)!! Bet ya haven't heard that one for a long time-HA!!! Nice TOPS, hey they've got to be my favorites. Were you able to find my first note (re: "Slvr. Buck🤔??? Keep up the good work and keep these vids coming, love🤗 watching 'em! Be safe, take care, "God Bless", sincerely Randy. 👍👍🙏😇👊
I did find it and sent you a reply Randy. Right now I am looking for cash.
Nice knife... Am I the only one who hates that "wire breaker" ''pot grabber"?
Maybe
Handle looks too small for my paws😁
It is compact
I know who your talking about. But, he don't have a cool camo hat. :) It didn't shave your arm. I didn't see it making feathers like it did.
Snipers wear ghillie suit, I guess.
It did great on the feathers
Maybe just a little above mildly entertaning! Lol
Thanks
🙋♂️
Hmm
I haven't checked the price on this particular knife but betting that it is over $100.00 that being said we have plenty of good choices for far less . This knife looks a lot like the smoke jumper model with redefined differences.
Gunny
hmm
I LOVE TOPS KNIVES 😁
BUT WHAT IS STUPID THE JIMPING ON THE TOP MIDDLE PART OF THE HANDLE. IT DOESNT NEED TO BE THERE !
I HAVE A LARGE TOPS KNIVE
AND THE HANDLE WILL IRRITATE THE MIDDLE PART OF MY HAND
BECAUSE OF THE STUPID JIMPING ON THE HANDLE.
APART FOR THAT THE BLADE
NEVER NEEDS SHARPENING
ITS LIKE A SUPER STEAL. ITS AMAZING !! BUT I CAN NOT USE THE KNIVE WITHOUT GLOVES.
THANKS FOR YOUR REVIEW 😁
Thanks
Should've tried to put a better edge on it.
No need. It got the job done just fine.
Boo-we
Whatever ;-)
1095 again...
If it ain't broke....
Don't think I would take that backpacking. Too big and heavy. More of a camp knife or truck knife. I hike with a Mora or funny to save weight.
Whatever works for you
finger grooves for a poor handle for different grips, obtuse grind with more obtuse secondary grinds (on thick stock on a short knife), handle scales that don't extend over the guard, apparently a full slab tang, heavy... all this for 150 buck. no wonder people have a skewed view on performance.
different strokes
@@SurvivalOnPurpose it's not great design for a cutting tool
So People pay 100 $ for this knife which is small handle with 1095 steel , Not chopper , Not came with sharp age and spine
Hmmmm
It is a good knife
I've watched a lot of these type of videos. I just don't get it,beating the crap out of a perfect knife. When along a small hand axe will do a better job. What happens when you're knife finally breaks after all that abuse. I'll keep using my HIB small pack axe, keep my knife for proper chores.
OK
I know it is not the best. Everybody should know. Get lost with these kind of titles! (I boycott every YOutube with such stupid mean titles. Never ever look at them.).
I meant to add a question mark. Thanks for reminding me.
The knife is mehh..
OK
