    Well Bryan just so you know I was the one who gave you the recommendation for Rogan USA Tools. I have the EOD and the Scout as you have in your review. I use this tool to dig a Dakota Fire Pit, baton wood, scrap fat wood and tree bark for tinder. It will strike a ferro rod quite well as you did in your review. I never use my knife to baton, my knife is too valuable to damage. I am purchasing another Scout Tool for my car survival kit. I store these in a tool roll in my BOB and never feel the weight. Nice review and thanks so much for reaching out to Rogan USA. The best part Bryan is your awesome and you read your comments. Not many do that. Again Thanks! Bob T

      If the Marines (or some) are using this for EOD stuff, then it's probably meant for metal. Like a prybar, and more rough stuff like you said for digging.
      Things you wouldn't really use a knife for. I think it's a cool tool.

    • @Bob-lt5hf
      @Bob-lt5hf 4 роки тому

      @@hbrhodes1s Dear Mr. Rhodes, The EOD tool has a chisel on the square end and a non sharp edge on the blade like long side. This tool is my main tool. It is like a Timex from the 60's it takes a beating and will take more beatings. The Scout tool is more for a camp task use but will not pry like the EOD tool. I will not lie but they are heavy due to thickness but I use these tools to save my knife. Both tools will baton through hard oak with knots. I only baton for tinder and wood to make feather sticks to get a camp fire going. Boy these both will throw sparks on a ferro rod. I am not a sale or rep for Rogan. Tools are made in the USA by a military vet.

      @@Bob-lt5hf Dear Robert. I like the way you addressed the other fellas, so I thought I would try.
      I saw the Rogan tool site and I thought the Foreman model would be excellent for batoning. Hopefully I will get it soon and try it out for myself. I also hope it feels right in the hand for accomplishing some of the tasks you made the Scout useful for, so I can just have one tool. Curious about your thoughts. Bryan. P.S. Can you tell me the weight on the EOD? I do know that it is longer by 1.75" than the Foreman. And the weight of the Scout, too, if you please. Thank you.

      @Bob-lt5hf 3 роки тому

      @@bdmenne Dear Bryan, I am not sure of the weight but I would put it in at about 1lb. I do know that carbon steel weighs in around .3 lbs per cubic inch. The EOD comes in at around 2.3 cubic inches so I would put it at 3/4 of a pound and add 1/4 pound for cord wrap. I do not see the Scout or the Knife Shape tool on the web site. If you contact Mike Rogan he would be more than willing to help you.

    I must own about 8 Rogan Tools maybe more. I’m with LAPD and these tools go with me on the job in my pack or car. Great for emergencies, like breaking windows, popping padlocks, window frames, etc. Strong, never bends. Impressed me so much I edc the mini version of his EOD tool. Comes in handy if you work with your hands or make your own repairs. One tool in each of my kits and earthquake kit. I even bought one of ROGAN’S T-shirts so I’m a fan of his tool.

      That's a big chunk of the problem. It doesn't have a point or anything resembling an edge and a decent trowel will have a bit of an edge. My Japanese Garden knife is vastly sharper. Some Abos living in Oz. started buying a general purpose foraging tool made from about two feet of rebar. It has a point on one end and the other is hammered flat and sharpened. That gives a half moon edge. I'd rather have that than this. Heck, I'd rather had a large flat headed screw driver than this. Each to their own.

    I don't get the point of carrying something that is effectively a bad knife. I don't even like the blade edge it'll always want to twist.
    I'd rather carry a good knife for finework and an older knife with a good edge that I can bash about

      The Foreman and EOD have a wedge/chisel tip that would be far better for splitting wood and also its longer therefore better for batoning. This Scout would only hand kindling splitting. So might as well get the 7.5 in or 9.25 inch Rogan.

    This could be used like a kubaton for non lethal self defense. Years ago Gerber sold a chisel with a belt sheath and lanyard that was coated with chromium carbide for knife sharpening, coarse on the sides and fine on the flats, which I have used for 50 years to get excellent edges on all of my knives. I have taken it camping and used it to open cans. I don’t baton (I just choose smaller sticks and limbs) but it would have worked for that. Like this tool it was also designed for prying and marketed as a tool you could use for tasks you didn’t want to use your knife for. The Rogan tools can also be used to dig grubs out of dead trees and stumps if you are starving. Bulbs and plants out of the ground for food.

  • @joeyjones9041

    I could see a few uses for the tool. Batoning, striking a ferro rod, tie it to a stick and digging with it, prying into logs or dead standing for grubs and punk wood. Really the possibilities are endless. I don't see why so many negative comments. It could really be a useful tool in certain situations for certain people.

    Hi Bryan. I worked with EOD in the AZ desert and I can see how the Rogan tool could be used. Quite often an EOD technician would come across a buried piece of ordnance. Back then, some 40 to 45 years ago, he would use his Kabar to dig around the buried object. The Kabar they used were pretty helfty and well made. However, after a period of time, of course the constant use as a digging tool would dull the blade and the tech would take out a diamond sharpener to "refresh" the blade. The Kabar was used in many other tasks such as cutting detonation cord, reconfiguring or cutting into C4 plus other required tasks associated with their craft. This Rogan tool could be used like the Japanese hori hori to carefully remove the ordnance, sometimes an unexploded ordnance, from the soil. I use a hori hori on my bushcraft trips as it is a magnificent tool for digging out roots such as wild onion and other edibles. Even tree roots that somehow seem to be a nuisance under your tent can be removed. The tool has a sharp edge on one side and a serrated edge on the other; the tip is somewhat sharp and can be honed to shave hairs. The blade is a convex shape and makes a nice digging tool which replaced my Deuce of Spades; safer to use the hori hori vs the Deuce. Mine came with a nice sheath, a heavy ballistic nylon.

    5-24-2020..Sunday..7:30 p.m.,I left this video to go online to ROGAN...there are separate knives and lengths..the one this video is small,but worth it.There 2 other sizes.
    Furthermore a knife has to be somewhat sharp for transport in mailing.You have to sharpen it when you receive it.
    *Batoning*..when your hands are cold in the winter ,and you have to have that extra push on wood.Thats what batoning is also for,don't knock it if you've never had to deal with it.
    Just saying and expounding.

The Spade Tool is a cool American made tool.

    A cool idea and a good deal for the money. I'd like to see an option for a steel upgrade in something just as indestructible but still edge holding without brittleness like (well heat treated) cpm 3v or a higher carbon steel. a 3v 5mm+ true full tang that only has a primitive edge (secondary bevel with no primary one) would basically be the ultimate compact stuff wrecker, sharpened pry bar, zombie dispatcher, etc. and still work for a lot of knife stuff.

    Likely often used as a pocket carry tool to open wood framed shipping crates. If you take a look at some of the larger military surplus sellers who sell vehicles and all you will see many of the same crates the services use to ship supplies. That would make a lot of sense to me. Myself? Think I'd rather rely on the TOPS Operator Seven here.
