Michelle and I travel to Flagstaff, Arizona to photograph the sunset at the South Rim of the Grand Canyon National Park. We explore both Grandview Point and Lipan Point at the South Rim of the Grand Canyon.
We stayed at the Cottage at Thundercliff Ranch north of Flagstaff. Thundercliff Ranch sits in the shadow of Humphrey's Point and is an off-the-grid AirBnB location.

I went through Arizona and never went to the Grand Canyon! I wish I had, but I realised just what a huge place the US is and didn't get time. So it was nice to get a good impression of it in your video. The black and whites were nice - almost Ansel Adamsy. My fave was the colour one at 24:15 though - fantastic mood and colours. 👍

Amazing location and cabin, great photos of the grand canyon. If you get another chance to see the milky way, grab it. I've seen it a few times as a vague band of stars, but on one clear night in September over ten years ago in Dorset, UK it was truly spectacular, I was looking into the galaxy, the stars were like hundreds and thousands in the night sky, something I'll never forget.
I hope to see the Milky Way someday, I hope it is as memorable as you describe your Dorset viewing.

For me, this was your best video to date Jim. Really well done, so much work out into this one. I'm a huge fan of the Flagstaff area, spent quite a bit of time there, just beautiful. Loved the cabin! I've never been a big fan of the Grand Canyon. Too many people for me. But you did really well with those images! I think I would like the GC looking up from the bottom, but that's quite a treacherous hike. The crossing sign was for mountain lions (cougar), lots of those in that area. Too bad about not getting to shoot the Milky Way, but nice to get a bit of snow (Flagstaff gets a lot!). Can't believe Clear Outside actually got it right!?!?! Really enjoyed this one you guys. Looked like an amazing part of the trip!

The cabin was absolutely amazing. It was off-the-grid, so water was trucked in and the electricity was solar and a generator powered by propane.

James, the monochrome photographs of the Grand Canyon are just stunning. The contrast is just great. It’s too bad the clouds moved in and blocked out the Milky Way for you. That would’ve been awesome as well. Thank you for sharing look forward to the next one.

Wow guys the trip just gets better snd better - I’m currently away in our caravan and the WiFi is very poor so the image quality wasn’t the best and I’ll need to revisit parts of the film when we’re home. Suffice to say the Grand Canyon looked amazing , well the 20% we could see !! The light was fantastic and sunset delightful . What a place for a wedding shoot too . I struggle with vertigo also Jim and would be a bit wobbly on my feet over there close to the edge I think . Shame about the Milky Way but hopefully you’ll get another go at some

Had to wait to watch this one James - getting half an hour to myself to watch anything is not too frequent. Really enjoyed watching it. Some epic photographs and i especially like the artistic choices you made in order to capture the tree and the ledge. It really made for a wonderful shot. Making memories is what it’s all about and looks like you both made plenty to look back on - lovely shot of you both at the GC.

Some great images there Jim, not sure I'd be able to get close to those edges of the canyon though. A shame about the Milky Way shots not working out for you.
Hahaha! I did a whole monologue (cut from this video) about falling into an orchestra pit whilst doing theatre photography and taking “just one more step back...”
I was pretty disappointed about the Milky Way. Maybe this summer in Northern Michigan. ✨

I loved this particular video because I paint on the south rim often and LOVE to see and hear all of the people who pull up and get their first view of the canyon. Very often they're speaking in another language, but the reactions are the same. I guess gasps are universal...grin. Love your channel and am a new subscriber!
@@SteveAtkinsonFineArt We were truly in awe of the view even after seeing it depicted in many photographs, videos, and paintings. Imagine what it must have been like seeing it for the first time having no idea it was even there, like the early explorers. Trivia note - it was on this trip that my wife and I decided to travel full time in some type of RV. I think it was that day after we saw the Grand Canyon that we discussed and decided to sell everything and take the plunge. Photography is continuing on this channel, but I have started a second dedicated to our RV life and adventures. Our Airstream is still in storage for the Michigan winter, but we're taking her to South Dakota soon to change our residence and begin our travels. The channel is @airstreamer. Cheers! 🚀🦩
