Fantastic you guys! Beautiful images and great story. Really enjoyed watching this.
thank you scott! it was an unforgettable sunset for sure! i still can't believe how lucky we were!
Chris Perea Well, you know that Ansel Adams quote: “Sometimes I do get to places just when God's ready to have somebody click the shutter.”
Gorgeous shots and the TL early in the video was amazing.
Philip Culbertson thank you so much Philip!!
KEEP ON TAKING THOSE BEAUTIFUL PHOTOS! THANK YOU FOR SHARING YOUR EXPERTISE! ❤️❤️❤️ THE VIDEO STAY SAFE!
patricia martinez thank you Patricia!
Stunning images Mike and Chris! I used to live in New Mexico but wasn't a photographer at that point, now I long for those open skies and dramatic sunsets. Thanks for taking us along on your adventures!
pc3photos thank you! New Mexico is a beautiful state! The skies of the US Southwest are hard to beat!
Great video and photo’s 👍🏻
Neil Cotten thank you Neil!
Great video! Brings back memories of last September when I had one full day and night at that same location whilst I was on a Road trip. It catches the most amazing sunset light! It was crazy windy when I was there as well! This is your first video I have seen and love your work, looking forward to seeing more of your videos!
Jimmy Barrett thank you so much Jimmy! It’s great to have you here. We agree this place is absolutely beautiful, and sunset is some crazy light here for sure! Cheers!
Great photos! I particularly like the North rim sunset photos. Unfortunately, I have never been to the north rim as it has always been closed for snow. 😃
Joseph H thank you! Yeah the north rim is only open from mid-May to November. In winter you can only access the south rim! Cheers!
I have to add, the photos are epic, but those time lapses are from another world! Amazing stuff.
Jon Glass thank you Jon!
Great video footage at a couple of points, with the music I thought I was watching a movie👌. It sure is beautiful country 😍🌄 and the clouds add great contrast to the sky ☁🌧⛅gives a more dramatic feel to the images. 👍👍for second breakfast😆
phynx2006 thank you Dave!

Hey..Man big fan ur photograp..love from india❤️🥺
thanks for hanging out with us!!
Great shots Mike/Chris, I've only ever been to the South Rim so must try the North Rim next time. Hope you are surviving the heat out your way! BTW 17.3mpg average!! wow...I couldn't afford to run a vehicle doing that mpg in the UK!!!
Steve2426 thank you Steve! We are barely surviving the heat haha. It’s miserable. And it’s funny, our truck seems pretty normal here in Arizona, which is very wide open and lots of back country 4x4 roads etc. but if I drive it in San Francisco, or New York City, it feels like driving a house. I would guess it’s similar in Europe. Everything is a bit more compact.
@@PereaPhotography yeah, know what you mean re. Vehicles. I'm just glad it wasn't that hot when I was in Arizona/Utah last summer. 43C in Vegas was more than enough for me. We don't get many days above 30C in England lol. Keep thinking cool thoughts lol.
Loved the photos! I still haven't made it to the north side of the canyon but definitely need to.
....and I bet there was a pucker moment with the one drone shot huh :)
definitely the place to be for photography!! way better than the south rim!
dVos Jay haha yep the drone was a close call!
The silent shutter is a thing. Look up silent shutter banding/flickering. It has something to do with real low shutter speeds and light frequency I believe. Nice Vid!
BurtonVDP that’s great to know and thank you!!!
You only get a partial lightning bolt in electronic shutter because the shot is taken as a scan so the top of the photo and the bottom of the photo are at significantly different times, depending on the camera this could be as much as a quarter second later so the lightning bolt is no longer present when the scan gets to a certain part of the frame. It's actually due to the same phenomenon as the one that causes rolling shutter in videos. Once we have cameras with something called a global shutter, this will be a thing of the past.
E.J. Peiker thank you for the info!! It’s much appreciated!
Really enjoying this series guys, well done and keep up the great work! Oh and thank you Chris for the follow on instagram, means a lot when the photographers you look up to and enjoy watching follow you. @youngjezz
thank you so much for watching, we really appreciate it! and of course, your photos are beautiful! i especially like your bird photos :-o they are amazing! stay safe!
Hi Chris and Mike. I am not sure my original comment made it. If it did, just ignore this. Awesome video, by the way. The problem I am having with your videos is that I add a new location to an ever growing list of places each time. On the other hand, I would have never known about some of these places, such as Alstrom Point, if it wasn't for you guys. Quick questions. Can you remind me what brand of camera filters do you use? Have you used variable ND filters? I am thinking that variable ND filters made sense over separate filters for each level in the variable ND filter. North Rim sunrise, sunset has been added to my list. I still want to make it to Toroweep Overlook at sunrise in the near future. I suspect I would combine the trip with the North Rim. Take care and say healthy. Nyall
nrlondon7959 thank you Nyall! I use Haida filters and Chris uses Lee. Neither of us have any experience with variable nd, but I know they are popular with videographers.
Chris: "Mike, what to you want to go photograph today?", Mike: "Hmm, how about we go to the Grand Canyon and capture some EPIC sunrise and sunset photos". Great photos you two, i just absolutely love the sunrise/sunset colors. I would venture to say that capturing lightning storms from those vantage points would be incredible. Keep up the awesome work...Mike, does your tornado chasing friend do tours? if so, does he have a website or UA-cam channel, i would be VERY interested in tornado chasing. TIA.
Tye Eggleston hey Tye! Yes he does storm chasing tours every May in tornado alley. Here is his website www.mikemezphotography.com
Nice video.. love that lake sun set shot you took. Hey question.. did you live in MA or are you just a sox fan? I lived in Milford MA for about 7 years before moving to AZ.. so just curious.
Interactive Realm just a big Red Sox fan! I’ve been to MA so many times to watch games. And thank you!
Great shots guys. Is the north rim the best for photography?
absolutely bill! the south rim is nice too but in my opinion there is better compositions at the north rim. also: less people AND bison😊
Chris, Mike: what was your setup for the sunset pictures? I have been struggling with my shots when there has been high dynamic range. When I expose to highlights the post processing of the shadows seems unreal. I can’t always use grad filters and bracketing creates some of the same post processing issues. I am trying to get less of that hdr result. If you could share your exposure philosophy in certain lighting situations it would greatly help me out. Also, let me know when you’re in Tucson next, I won’t bend your ear but I will buy your coffee for the next travels as a thank you.
DesertPackrat hey man! We just left Tucson about 3 hours ago. We are shooting a video for photographing the comet. We ended up out at gila bend haha. As for post processing. I have a video series starting a week from Friday and the first video will cover what I think you are looking for!
How do you get to the North Rim from Phoenix? Do you go east or west around the canyon?
east! it's about a 6 hour drive and seeing humphries peak in flagstaff is always a highlight for me🙂
@@chris_perea Thanks! I hope I get back to Phoenix someday, and if so, I want to hit the North Rim instead of the South for once.
Great channel. Please Make More. Also, Let’s build each other Up xD
