    I Love Deborah Kerr! 💕 She became a Religious Catholic Sister later in her life,
    and when she came to Houston, Texas, I had the honor of meeting her and spending time with her.
    I think she has passed to heaven now.🙏. Blessings....

    Over the last few months I've become a huge fan of this lovely lady. I've had the pleasure of watching all but two of her films since October. I'm trying to get my hands on those two! She was an amazing talent who always gave wonderful performances even when the films themselves weren't all that great. Not only was she stunningly beautiful, but had a delightful way of bringing humanity to every role she played. I own many of her films and have a hard time choosing a favorite. I loved them all!

    Thanks for mentioning "Heaven Knows, Mr. Allison." One of the finest war pictures ever made, and of any genre, really, showing both Mitchum and Kerr at their cinematic height. How many actors out there could have pulled off this two character tour de force with such utter believability and class? Anyone who loves Deborah Kerr, rent this movie and it will be become one your favorites, too. A true film classic.

    Deborah Kerr was the most versatile of any of the movie stars - past or present. She was absolutely amazing in Separate Tables - in which she played a dowdy, repressed young woman - she was not afraid to take those roles. Every gesture, the way she walked and hunched her shoulders... she should have had the Oscar for that performance, as well as for the role of Ida Carmody in Sundowners, for her role as Hannah Jelks in Night of the Iguana, and for Laura in Tea & Sympathy. What a travesty!

    Although Miss Kerr never won an Oscar (and she was nominated many times) the Academy of Motion Pictures and Sciences did award her a much deserving honorary Oscar. Why do British actresses have such talent, class,beauty and MANNERS! Today's so-called Hollywood celebrities could learn so much from these classy actors/actresses.

    She was in so many great movies, but her best work as an actress in my opinion: From Here to Eternity, Black Narcissus, The Night of the Iguana, Separate Tables, Heaven Knows Mr. Allison, The Innocents. Any of them is a good start to explore her diversity and ladylike charisma.

  • @jakeenan
    @jakeenan 12 років тому +3

    Black Narcissus...that was what you meant to say not Black Dahlia! It is a wonderful movie by Powell and Pressburger...one of Deborah's best performances. And not forgetting Kathleen Byron too- that was a role of a lifetime for her. Just recently watched Deborah in Love on the Dole...that was the movie that transformed her career. If you want to see Deborah playing another nun...check out: Heaven Knows, Mr Allison. A John Huston film made in Tobago. Deborah and Robert Mitchum are terrific in it.

    "An Affair To Remember" will never go down as a cinema classic; however (and recognizing beauty is in the "eye of the beholder"), there is something about her beauty and femininity in that movie that has been rarely matched on the 'silver screen'.

  • @jakeenan
    @jakeenan 12 років тому +2

    Yeah its a true classic....and in the more or less 'two-hander' genre of movies, Heaven Knows, Mr Allison? is right at the top of the pile, for sure. It really does have everything. And so did Deborah Kerr...if I haven't mentioned it enough already. Hahaha

    Don't forget some of the supporting players like the incomparable Thelma Ritter who was nominated six times without a win. Your list makes me feel better about the fact that Deborah Kerr never won an Oscar. She's in marvelous company. Geez, Irene Dunne and Myrna Loy were two of the funniest, most sophisticated comedic actresses of their time. I never get tired of watching their films.

    She was one of the greats, and her performance in 'From Here to Eternity' will live for the ages. Sadly, Hollywood never embraced her British reserve nor her husband, Peter Viertel, one of the great film writers of the 20th century. Check out 'Black Hunter, White Heart' [book and film by Clint Eastwood] about the filming of 'The African Queen' if you want.

    This year marks the 10th anniversary since Mrs Kerr passed by. I've "discovered" her recently, as I watched, by chance, The King and I; how I wish the film industry could burn to DVD all of her movies! In Italy it's nearly impossible to find them, even on Amazon (even the italian dubbed The King and I, that is a must-have along with The Sound of Music -actually all R&H are must-have-, is scarce!) 😞

      They did provide her an Honorary Oscar when she was in her 80s. She was fragile and wished that the academy staff get off their seats and take the actress by the hand. Except most of the time, they feel they should wait? Ridiculous - they should help our aging stars out of their seat and help them!

    I agree. I can't think of another actress with her range of talents. Others may have been more intense dramatic actors, (maybe.) But who else was so adept at drama, comedy, romanticism, with a healthy dose of glamor but not without personable charm and wholesomeness, and a lovely singing voice thrown in to boot. ;-)

    You can download Love on the Dole from UA-cam. Its a very English provincial movie...you may struggle with some accents but it has a lot of heart and Deborah's a fiesty star in the making, in it. Heaven knows, Mr Allison? is Huston at the top of his game...with Kerr and Mitchum stranded on an island during the Second World War and its basically just the two of them for most of the movie. Its another of my favourites...and one of Mitchum's too. Always happy to help a fellow Deborah Kerr devotee!

    I agree the Nobel Peace Prize is a joke, but the other Nobel Prize categories are definitely not a joke, they are based on science with worthy winners. Oscar has always been more of a popular contest almost exclusively for american movies and nothing really to take seriously. The most prestigious and interesting movie awards are in Europe - Cannes, Berlin and Venice.
