Could it have been smoother to have used the elongated smooth surface blocks as the enclosure holding the pins? I've never played the game, so I don't no if using them would work and also be as compact.

I recommend stormworks, it’s like scrap mechanic with better logic and more complexity. You can make modular engines and stuff ect.

Not a bad idea, smooth surface blocks can be a little difficult to pin in place once they are stretched though
