That has got to be the best TV show theme ever written. Holy cow. At least in the top 2-3. I guess The Rockford Files was awfully good too, and the images that had along with it were better than these by a mile.
I liked so much this show, and the choosing of Jack Lord to play the main character was the best choice, in my opinion. The theme is Great and added a mysterious touch to the show.
Note mostly 11 to 12 year video montage. The young boy shown for a couple seconds was probably college age by then, the cars and jets retired or even scrapped.
True story, I won a trip for two to Hawaii, actually the company I worked for bought the raffle ticket and won and then put everyone that worked at the company names in a hat and I won. You could include M:I and Five-O in the discussion for 'best themes of all time'. A-Team and Knight Rider are less iconic, but certainly among 'best themes of the 80s'.
Chin Ho was killed off in the last episode of the tenth season, upon the departure of Kam Fong after playing him for so long, claiming the show became rather 'static' according to interviews in 1977. After 12 seasons and reaching two decades, the intro by 1980 already shows shots that, despite its iconic and legendary essence, demonstrate that it's a time capsule from the late 60's and early 70's. The theme tune for this season also shows slight alterations in order to sound more 'funky' despite the disco genre already phasing out, always thought this season's theme rendition was more like a swan song to the show, much more after I read rumours that Jack Lord himself thought the 11th season was the last one he would make, but then had to make this season on the demands of CBS executives only to give closure regarding Wo Fat.
Rumours say that Farrell either quit or was told to leave the show after half of the episodes were produced, she never confirmed the actual reason. However there is a rather polemical interview she gave that gives a rather cynical glimpse about Jack Lord in regards to his contributions as showrunner and how he got to bring Sharon as a cast member in this last season.
