I am so impressed by your technique Charlie. Painting in oils has been my hobby since retiring. Now I living in a retirement home with some time on my hands I decided to try watercolours and made an absolute mess. Then I found your UA-cam site and it made things so much easier to get it right.. Just got to get them in the right place now. Thank you for your help. Brian Clarke
Apart from the wonderful painting Charles Evans you have a fantastic character. I cannot decide what what I liked best - your character or your painting. Of course thanks a lot for this.
agree with all of the positive comments and then some. I haven't seen you post for awhile and was getting concerned, and here you are on May 1st doing another wonderful painting, which I will try to do in acrylics. many thanks again.
I can't tell you how much you have helped me. Love your videos. I am a beginner watercolor painter.. I just wish I had one tenth of your talent. Thank you so much.
Absolutely brilliant tutorial Charles, you explain every step of the painting wonderfully, and the painting is stunning,. Stay safe and thankyou,. 😘👏😘👏
expert = has been drip under pressure You are such an inspiration, besides and even under present circumstances. Your palette just amazes me every time.
Thanks for another inspirational video, Charlie and Gail. Much appreciated. Now the weather is warming and the lockdowns are reducing I'm looking forward to getting back out with the sketching gear. Take care my friends.
The sound of that pencil on the canvas, is not irritating at all. Not to me at least. I quite like it in fact. Why you use such a small stubby bit of pencil is intriguing, while there are so many posh pencils out there? As someone who simply cannot draw at all, I love to see a pencil drawing emerge just by scratching about on paper as you seem to do. I enjoy watching you paint and tell me why you make certain marks and telling me what you see. When you do that, I think ‘oh yeah, I can see that too’ ha ha! Thank you Charles. I’m a subber!
I've been trying to figure out how to paint clouds for a long time (maybe 30 tries at least) with little success-thank you so much for demonstrating how to, seemingly effortlessly, paint a beautiful sky.
Fabulous Charles, and let me tell you that the book I purchase a year ago: the Pocket Book for Watercolor Artist - have been not only a good instruction book on technique but also a fantastic source of inspiration for my watercolor art....
I'm really enjoying your demonstration as I'm relaxing after leaving hospital following a heart attack. The calming effect is great. May I ask you to show me and your other followers, the painting behind you hanging up on the wall. It looks amazing and appears to be of a London scene complete with a big, red iconic bus. Many 'heartfelt thanks' ( bad pun? ). I'm looking forward to the next masterpiece! Kind regards, David.
I’m so pleased you’re enjoying them. It is indeed a painting of London . If you go onto the gallery section of my website, there’ll be a better image there. I hope you’ll be fighting fit again very soon!
you remind me of a dear friend Arthur, back when we draughtmen used pencils and tee squares, lots of people, me included would buy fancy adjustable tee squares, technical propelling pencils etc., Arthur used an ancient, warped tee square and a stub of any old pencil, and his drawings were the best out of all of us. As you are demonstrating, its not what youve got, its how you use it! (the `roofy` bits down the edges of the roof are `copings`)
Thank you very much! I had a try today.....my pine trees do not go like yours even with the same brush and movements.....Waiting for the next watercolour one (I do not make acrylics)...!
Thank you very much for the beautiful video! I will definitely pick up your approach to clouds and trees in particular. I also found your way of working on the palette and the look of the same very inspiring. I want to work with watercolour more outdoors. Could you give me a recommendation for the easel? The work surface should also be adjustable horizontally. Many thanks also to your partner behind the camera! Colourful greetings from Germany
Just thinking Charles as to why do you tape your paper down with such big margins? ie why not use the smaller size paper! Or have missed the point? That said I just love watching you paint and can only wish that maybe one day I will produce a nice painting. Best regards Dave
Do you know of anywhere to get Langton paper (prestige or regular) in a full sheet? Jackson's apparently only sells it in pads and blocks. Preferably somewhere that ships international. I wish the US suppliers would carry it, it's wonderful paper.
@@charlesevans7706 TY.. I don't know what happened to the other comment that suggested Ken Bromley... but they had a great chart that was really helpful and explained why I can order a whole box of pads/blocks, paint, brushes, etc for $15 shipping and three full sheets was like $55. Apparently the cut off is 15x18 inches, anything over that gets surcharged.
just a simple suggestion. Likely ur wifes job. If u could add a "show more" link. Like on other videos and have links to your watercolor books and materials. May be helpful to you and for us if we would like to purchase material. Love ur tutorials Thank You
How do you decide which order to paint in? The sky I understand but I don't always understand why you paint one thing first instead of another. I love your work and watch as many of these videos as time allows.
Wow! I thoroughly enjoyed your tutorial. Easy to follow, reasons for color choices. Simplicity of color, amazing effects. Thank you! I be learned so much from you today!
Recently found your channel, I find your style very sympathetic and it’s really refreshing to watch. Not sure if I can make a request but would you be able to do a painting of a train station in watercolour pencils? Love your work ^_^
Wonderful painting! It's a treat to watch you paint so masterfully. You make it look so easy but I know it's due to your talent. Also, shout out to Gail (Gale?) for great camera work. I love that she gets right up close so we can see the details. Totally appreciate that.
What a great painting. Thank you Charles, and thank you Gail for your great camera work. I’m definitely going to include Bert into my version of this painting. He is lovely. I do have one question. You mentioned that Alizarin crimson and Hookers green makes black. Doesn’t green and red make brown, or have I got that mixed up with another combination ? It’s still a great painting whatever colours are used.
Charles Evans U are one of the best Teacher on You Tube. Thank U
That’s very kind, thank you.
That addition of burnt sienna to the slightly damp distant trees was pure magic. A priceless tip, yet another of many offered up through the years.
Pleased they’re being useful to you.
I must be the one of few that enjoys the pencil drawings and the sound's it makes. This is what drew me (no pun intended) to your wonderful paintings.
It was a good pun though!
You're right. Every time I follow along, I turn out an amazing painting that my husband and friends love.
I’m so pleased they work for you.
