Hiking the Uinta Highline Trail Solo
Вставка
- Опубліковано 14 сер 2023
- The Uinta Highline Trail is a rugged and challenging 106 mile long-distance hiking trail located in the Uinta Mountains of northeastern Utah. The trail traverses through some of the most remote and scenic areas of the region, offering hikers breathtaking views of alpine lakes, towering peaks, and lush meadows, along with obstacles such as numerous bogs, water crossings, snow, mosquitoes and rough trail.
On July 19, 2023 I set out to hike this trail solo for 5 days..

Enjoyed the edit! Did the UHT in 2022. The best hike I’ve ever experienced.

@@JBENHIKES thanks for watching! How’d your trip go?
@@ChadLubinski Our trip went really well. It was the best multi-day hike I’ve ever been on! Can’t wait to do it again….. I have it all on my “Hiking Utah” playlist.
My brothers and I hiked the Highline just a month after you! It was brutal, I can't imagine doing it solo. On one of the nights we camped on the far side of Porcupine Pass and there were a bunch of yipping coyotes nearby that kept me up half the night. I was freaked out 😂
Haha! Thanks for watching and congrats on doing the trail!
Awesome video, brother.
hey thanks man, appreicate it!
That trail looks a lot tougher than some other videos have shown. Thanks for sharing. I was considering doing this solo in the summer and you have given some things to consider.
Thanks for the watch, man! You can do it, it's just a little slow going.
That looks like a breathtakingly beautiful place. The navigation looks a bit difficult but you did a great job dealing with it. As an older solo hiker and someone who has lived long stretches of my life alone I have found the difference between loneliness and solitude is a state of mind. That said I get your perspective. I now mostly backpack with my dog and she has really helped me feel more complete on the trail. Take care and thanks for taking the time and effort to record your journey. You did a fantastic job. Take care
Thanks so much for this comment and watching! I think a dog would be a great addition to my hikes, good call
Awesome work buddy!
Hey thanks for watching!
@@ChadLubinskiyou bet
Great video. Enjoy the variety of shots, angles and perspectives you use. Fun to watch.
thank so much...I really tried to get as good of shots as possible!!
Cows are some of the most curious animals I’ve ever been around 😂😂 awesome job on the doc!! Killed it 💯
Hey thanks so much! Yeah they couldn't get enough of me I guess haha
Breathtaking presentation as well as narration my friend! These shots are breathtaking!
Thank you! First time with the new camera on a Thru hike!!
Crushed it, congratulations 🤙🏽
Thank you and thanks for watching!!
Beautiful video! Great job!
Yo thanks for watching Jen!
Beautiful Mtns! Nature is going home! ❤
totally agree!
Loved it Chad, the highs, the lows, the mosquitos!
Thank you brother 🙌
Wow what a trip!
thanks mom :)
Killed it!!
Hey thanks for watching!!
Excellent!✌️
Hey thanks so much!
Great job on the editing….takes lots of time and effort. Thanks for sharing!
Hey you bet man! How you been??
All is well, but was unable to hit the trail this year. I tore a tendon in my elbow, while at work and had to have surgery. I was off for 10 months. Anyway, will be back on the AZT this April-May for about 500 miles and either back on the CT or JMT a few months later, in August…..I’m itching to be back on trail! Enjoying all you content, and you seem to be doing some really cool stuff….keep it up 👍🏼
@@Rance120 appreciate you brother… wishing you a speedy recovery!
Big thumbs. Did from this Leidy Peak TH with my son and it was hard enough (wet feet and storms) but awesome. I should probably go back and do that first part sometime. Looks like that makes it much more of a trek. No cows, but we had TONS of sheep to Baa us to sleep 😴 I'll say it again, hiking it twice to film is mind-blowing
Congrats on finishing it and thanks for the comment! Where were the sheep at?
Good video 👏🏼
Hey thanks for watching :)
I know you struggle with being alone, but I am praying for the opportunity to shed humanity to be alone in the mountains again like when I was younger.
thanks man!
I did the trail a few weeks after you did Chad and it was still pretty remote in terms of people. Saw two couples and 3 other individuals between McKee Draw and Dead Horse Lake. Saw another 3 folks camped at Dead Horse lake taking another trail out, up north.
Things were a bit better as far as snow, but those boggy meadows SUCKED!
Wet feet all day!!!! How were the mosquitos when you went? I'd imagine still pretty bad.
@@ChadLubinski Nah, they weren't awful. Just past Chepeta Lake, near Reader Lakes, in the tree line it was bad and only one other spot I can't remember. Loved that hike though and planning on doing it again this summer.
Hey random question for you, I have 4 permits for the JMT SOBO and right now only two have names to them. Interested in doing the JMT again SOBO? Starting July 1st at Happy Isles.
@@colbypark1311 Dang dude, thank you so much for that invite. I have some things already planned in July so I can't go, but that sounds freakin awesome!
@@ChadLubinski No worries. Also planning on doing the UHT again in August again, haha.
That was fun thx
Hey thanks for watching!
Cute!
I know of a secret spring in that dry section that is only a few hundred yards off trail.
oh nice! were you hunting around there?
No just hiking
Great Video! Since this is a point to point hike and not a loop, how do you get back to your car? Is there a shuttle and if so how "reliable" is it? Get a dog, definitely helps with the solo hiking.
Ah yes great question! I drove to McKee Pass and had a shuttle arranged through Mountain Trails Transport (highly recommend) to pick me up at Hayden Pass
How pricy was the shuttle back if you don't mind me asking? Planning this trip myself for next year. Thanks.@@ChadLubinski
$150! not bad
Another hike added to my list…past 3 years we’ve been in winds thinking UHT will be next. How bad were skeeters at night? I usually use a tarp but most all my trips are fall winter to avoid crowds and bugs. When did you go?
Hey, thanks for watching! I went end of July and the skeeters at night weren't bad (that I can remember). They were extremely bad around the boggy areas though. You'll have a great time!
what film editing software did you use?
Final Cut Pro!
very cool! did you hit Kings while you were that close? when did you hike that, first of August?
Thanks for watching! I didn't hit Kings, I want to come back and splitboard it actually. And I did this the second to last week of July!
@@ChadLubinski mmmm, a winter ascent on Kings is tough. the winter gate that closes the road adds a few miles, plus the snow up at that elevation is DEEP and typically untracked. There is an event in March that a local hiking club puts on to make such an attempt, but very few make it all the way. Good luck if you take a shot at it though!
@@SomeNumbskull yes that's what I meant, spring!
Wow, great video. 1st time watching and I appreciate your style/ honesty. The High Line has been on my bucket list for awhile. The self entitled documentary didn’t show this many bogs though; thanks for the heads up. Water, roots, and rocks are typical of the trails I hike back home. Little tip if I may: cut a sawyer bag in half and use that as a “scooper” for shallow water.
This was awesome! 106 miles?!? What size pack did you carry? Did you eat the entire thing of Nutella? Clearly I’m choosing my snacks wrong😂
Thanks for watching! 🙌 this is actually a 60 L pack from ULA (The Circuit).
And Yep, I crushed that Nutella 😂
Quality video Chad! Do you feel like you successfully managed your wet feet? If so, how did you do it?
Hey thanks vinnie!! I was just constantly rotating my socks but really it didn’t matter because they just kept getting wet lol. I think the best thing I did was just takeoff my shoes at every break spot!
Those Cows were expecting you to have food. Most humans they encounter are there to feed them thats why they are sticking around you. lol
Interesting… i never thought about that
@@ChadLubinski yea I never thought about it until a guy mentioned it to me out there. they do it to me all the time out on my dirtbike. Haha.
10 bucks…😂
really wishing she would've took it 😅
Not sure what you were expecting young man. I could not deal with your unpleasant language. Maybe you should’ve stuck with road walking
ouch debbie
Dude... what is with all the whining??? This is Utah. We have cows and deer, and bogs, and creeks to cross, and yes, even mosquitoes. We also have some of the most beautiful remote wilderness areas in the lower 48. More than 85% of the state is public lands. Most of that area has no cell service. We LIKE it that way. We can hike for days and not see another person. We like it that way. It's beautiful here, BECAUSE it is remote. We like it that way. Tell all your followers how awful it is here. Please! We don't want them here anyway!
Tell me more Username
Hahaha, “Ooh, that’s a long way, I don’t know if you can make it”
“Bitch. Watch me.”
Story of my life, recently I changed plans on trail because so many people told me they thought I couldn’t make it. I ended up arriving at my destination with more than enough time to have followed my original route 🫠
The fear mongering is a real problem in this community!!
