I’m from South Carolina and this still happens as a hold over from our grandfathers. This is something a lot of miners and factory men did back in the day in the south. Their hands were filthy from work and this was a quick way to have a snack/ drink without eating coal dust/ grease.
Thank you for explanation, makes lots of sense.sounds like stuff we did in military that becomes habit out of nescessity
I had a friend who did this everyday at school and didnt understand. Now I do....and we're both from the south. Its insight into her roots.
I was thinking it would have been handy for truckers [or anyone even] whilst driving.
How did they put the peanuts in the bottle if their hands were filthy?
@@thelonelyrider2217 you rip off the corner of the packet and pour them in? Funnel them with a piece of paper into the neck of the bottle?
I randomly found this channel and I can't stop watching all the videos. Please help me.
You got me Emmy. Subscribed.
+Rai Gresham Welcome aboard!
emmymadeinjapan 😊
I've got the same problem!
Same here, totally obsessed
I have described this as the Southern version of bubble tea.
🤣
Yep. Living in Alabama..you find coke bottles with peanuts sitting at random places all the time
I was thinking the same thing. My dad would tell stories of him growing up on this as a kid in Alabama. He also said things were so much cheaper. You could buy a bottle of soda and a bag of chips and still get cash back from using a single quarter
oh my god this is the best thing I’ve seen all day
@@briancagordon2308 i wouldnt say it was cheaper. It was more of the value of money.
I'm a simple man, I see Mexican coke, I hit like
And Dublin Dr. Pepper... made with sugar using the original recipe, in Dublin, Texas.
Heheh me too
Actually, I believe it’s the same for any country 😅
Shawn Hopkins I also think think the same! There is a difference between bottled glass, and plastic ones.
NW3D except the fact that it’s from and made in Mexico lol
My ma used to do this all the time when I was a kid. Sometimes when I get sad and start missin' her I do it to feel closer to her.
Martha Blair That is so sweet!
Martha Blair that's so sweet
Martha Blair hugs i miss my mommy every day too and she's been dead for 9 years
😢😢😢
This was honestly the most wholesome thing, and it's so sweet. Sorry for your loss, but I'm so happy you have something that you can feel a little bit close to her when you need it.
I love how Emmy tries everything with an open mind and almost always finds something nice to say about everything she tries 💕
For real, like Emmy, is my hero, because she never says no, and always has at least one positive thing to say, even if she doesn't care for it, she never calls it disgusting or makes fun of the item, just gives an honest positive opinion and honestly I wish I could be like her.
She hated the burger in a can though.
I know! This is my favourite thing about Emmy. I want to make a conscious effort to be more like her, honestly~
Some of the best content on the web.
A bottle of coke and a bag planters peanuts.....doesn't get any better than that....when I was a kid the coke was 10 cents and the planters peanuts were 5 cents
Chasbrooks51 we used a bag of Toms peanuts.
:’( i wish it still was
G you must be a old as dirt
The original combo is RC Cola and peanuts
@@Kultbeno I know seriously right a full tank of gas must have been a nickel in his day too
When she says cheers and not eat the cat in moss :(
I laughed way too hard at this 😭😭
😂🤣
😂😂😂😂😂
You mean eat the duck and mouse
Mmm.. I love eating cats that I find hidden in moss.
I grew up in south Ga. One of my most treasured memories was when I was little, my granddaddy would take me down to the store and buy me a pack of salted peanuts, a banana moon pie and an RC Cola and then we would head over to the local barber shop. He would dump the peanuts in the RC and open my moon pie for me and then I would sit there listening to all those old men telling their delightful stories while eating (and drinking) the BEST snack on planet earth!! I've never tried it with coke but I'm sure it's just as good! And YES......it MUST be in a glass bottle!! Thanks for this video.......and the trip down memory lane💖. You are my FAVORITE UA-camr!
Michele Nunyabiz omg someone else that says granddaddy 😍😍😍😍
I'm from west TN and we used RC Cola too!
Yep, Tennessee....RC CoCola and a Moon Pie....LOL
Yes. Cold glass bottle of RC with the peanuts.
Michele Nunyabiz Wow bannana moon pie nice
i'm from louisiana and i don't understand why but all the grandpas do that
Same lmfao
Lmao
Because it’s ... good?
My grandma is from tennessee and she says everyone down there drinks coke that way lmao. Never heard of it
It is a local thing in the rural south. I grew up in Nashville, and we did this as kids, but its not so common anymore.
"don't care for Dr. Pepper" *gasps in Texan*
Colt Slow Toke Taylor ok texan
Dr. Pepper is the drink of intellectuals
Yes!
the only soda my mom drinks is dr pepper
Especially in Waco!
Everytime Emmy burps at the end of a video, an angel gets its wings 🤣
Yummy Coca-Cola an peanuts can't everyone wrong. Perfect snack
wait she burps at the end of the... OH MY GOD
No! She shouldn't do it again.
As a teen back in the early 1960's, we bought the chilled bottles of Coke & the small cello-packed Tom's Salted Peanuts, then poured the peanuts directly from the small opening torn into the cello into the bottle (less mess!) Delish! Quit doing this when Coke changed formula!!! I hardly drink Coke anymore without adding Rum & lime because it's just TOO sweet now. ;-)
Yes!
Ditto - This cola-peanut drink was a big deal during the 1960's for kids in my (low income) neighborhood too. Difference is I was a Chinese kid in a African American neighborhood. I haven't tried it since then. Kids nowadays have boba, jellies and other stuff floating in their drink, but I think cola-peanuts were the original chewy drink innovation.
gryphonshire there's some of the old one in my pantry
Felipe, while I confess to always being a little weird, I'm actually a great-grandMA (and no longer fucking anybody......) Cheers! ;-)
I find it hard to believe that I have never heard of it.
your voice is so soft and calming which makes your videos quite relaxing, so I was thoroughly not expecting that glorious clip at the very end lmao
Amanda Low Emmy is almost always so proper and polite, and only recently have I been watching the gems at the end, I usually just assumed the video was over, and that burp though, now I have to go to watch everything to see if I missed anything else
Hahahha hilarious I read the comment before seeing and I thought video was over...I was disappointed then saw what you were talking about lol
The little ending add on's are glorious
In college my daily breakfast was a Snickers and a Coke ($1 total). This is similar but misses the necessary food group of nougat.
daily?? that cant be good lmao
You must have diabetes by now
As long as the rest of the meals in the day were healthier, a coke and a single snickers for what I assume is 4 years(?) doesn't sound as bad as some other things people do.
For at least 8 months college my breakfast was a Coke and Baby Ruth. Snickers never quite did the trick.
Mouth full of rotten fucking teeth and you must be 300 pounds.
If you lived in Japan and had coke, you probably had the coke with real sugar. I believe US is the only country that uses high fructose corn corn syrup.
So it turns out that the only place they don't have real coke is America.
Also in mexico.
Good point! Glass bottle usually indicates the can sugar though right
Better from mexico
The US has subsidies for corn farmers. The Coca Cola company can buy HFCS cheaper than sugar because the HFCS has been partially funded by the taxpayer.
We in the south have been doing this forever I prefer adding them to Dr Pepper. I am 53 soon to be 54 I can say the Mexican coke taste like the Coke I grew up on. The old little 8 oz bottles were way better than any other coke back the late 60's and early 70's.
Ian Roth Why is that? Cane sugar?
@@bbednorz319 To me the small glass bottles of coke tasted a lot stronger. Maybe it was my imagination or maybe it was something to do with the larger amount of glass and smaller amount of coke being colder, I don't really know.
I've cut out coke for months now, and they say it takes around 28 days to cut a bad habit, but it's been months and watching this is making me want a coke SO BAD!! IT'S BEEN WAY PAST 28 DAYS AND THE CRAVINGS WERE SUPPOSED TO STOP BUT THEYRE STILL HERE!! 😭😭😭😭😭
Robert Mata I heard it takes 6 weeks to cut out a habit. I gave up fizzy juice 2 years ago and I will have the odd one now but I never get a craving.
Ooo I feel you. I'm a vegetarian and healthy eater and I always crave fried stuff like egg rolls and fries.
I stopped drinking it when I got my braces 8 years back, if you want fizz, just take a bit of fizzy water and put a bit of lemonade syrup in there. Much less sugar, and you can decide how sweet you want it :) When I'm at birthday parties I just drink fizzy water (Spa Red)
Robert Mata boil a bottle of coke. What's left will help you stop drinking it.
Caitpirells I've seen that but Coca-Cola is still my fav 😂
It was pepsi and peanuts when I was a kid in the south.
Mostly reserved for road trips.
My granny talks about how her and my granddad would go on dates in high school and they would spilt a coke, peanuts, and a moon pie.
The Coke addict in me got all excited when you opened that glass bottle, my heart went all pitter patter o.O
+terrapedes 😆
The Sugar Cane Coke is the ONLY way to go.
I really hope you mean coca cola and not cocaine
terrapedes haha, mine too
That’s cool my uncles addicted to coke too!! I don’t see him anymore :(
"OOOOHUHUHUH [groans] YEAHHHHH"
Watching you do Coke is an experience.
パンダ🐼ぼう That's the most genuine coke reaction I've ever seen lol
I haven’t seen anyone do this since I was a kid. Funnily enough, I was just thinking about buying a Coke and some Planters just the other day. The Internet be spying yo
Now you just need an RC and a moon pie!
That's exactly what I thought too, lol!!!!!
Oh yeah so yummy.
Banana!
what's RC?
@@grimkidcoffee5013 rc cola
I'm so glad you made this video! I haven't had this in probably 20 years. My uncle taught me to do this as a kid growing up in Mississippi! Thanks for the reminder of a fond memory!
You know what to do next time you grab a Coke
Only Emmy can make peanuts and coke in a bottle sound elegant
Definitely a southern thing! We did this growing up. You should try cornbread and buttermilk!
No not just a southern thing... people have done it all over I live in the East and I've seen it being done here for over 45 years yes it's quite good with Dr Pepper also.😂
My favorite.
Susie Van Allen it’s southern
Who needs dessert when you have this?
Buttermilk? Oh honey do NOT get me started. The endless possibilities of this miracle food prove beyond the shadow of a doubt that there is a God. They're even making ice cream with it now!
This is a very southern thing! I don't think it's very popular among younger people anymore, but around here the elderly tend to be big fans of this. My grandmother had this all the time.
Last year I went to a musical about my town. There were mostly elderly people in the audience. The concession stand had Coke, peanuts, and Moon Pies for the full experience!
Oh my goodness, I was not expecting that burp!
+AuricBlaze 🤠
Hi from NJ!!! Love all your videos!!!
AuricBlaze straight up was thinking something from an Alien movie lol
AuricBlaze XD ha ha ha!! But that's all we would expect from Coke and peanuts! 😂😂😂😬🙊
Me neither, I don't normally watch until the very end but I'm glad I did this time...
My parents usually enjoyed this with RC cola and peanuts.
Susan J. Rc cola >coca cola
Alexa Walker it's royal cola blue can it was my grandpas favorite
Alexa Walker - Royal Crown Cola. RC goes great with a Moon Pie!
Royal Crown Cola
It tastes great with an ice cold Pepsi as well
@7:14 someone call an EXORCIST!
layzer80 she’s so little how was that even possible lol
I can’t stop laughing 😂
Lmfao!!!! That made me laugh so hard!! 😂😂😂
i don’t know what i was expecting clicking on the time stamp but it was not that😭😭😭
Is that Giant Robot??
my parents grew up in tennessee and my dad was born in 1932, he grew up putting peanuts in RC cola. then coke, then pepsi. he loved it
omg i loved rc when i was a kid, better than coke
I was in Kentucky as a kid With a very small auto garage across the street Got a bottle of RC and peanuts daily and mixed them Wasn’t weird
My grandfather had this all the time growing up. I'm from Alabama, my mom was from Georgia, and her father was from Arkansas. No idea where it came from!
gllt hey another lovely from alabama
gllt when we grew up poor it was a cheap summer treat 35cents and you had a great snack! I'm from Tennessee we have been drinking/eating this since the 50s

SNSD Anti I'm from Texas but live in northern Arkansas and I've seen it both places.

1:32 "This cola smells like cola-scented erasers"
- Emmy, 2017
" I remember when no one was lookin', I was puttin' peanuts in my coke . . . "
Emmy is like the epitome of moderation. She eats everything but in the right amounts so she's healthy. I can't restrain myself so I have to completely cut things out or I'll eat like a glutton.
Gordon: is it fresh?
Emmy: i'm pretty sure it's frozen
Gordon: f**k me
From a boy who grew up in Georgia in the 60-70's, it's actually peanuts and RC Cola. 'Cause I guess many of us were poor and RC Cola was cheaper.
Ever since watching this video I’ve tried this combination out of curiosity, and I’m absolutely hooked. This has seriously become something I crave. For anyone on the fence about trying it, definitely do so! It’s amazing! So worth the try, but now I have an addiction 😂
That burp at the end was....AWESOME😂😂👍🏻
i'd freak if she started to speak backwards
We did this all the time in the "50"'s wonderful. Also Coke floats with Vanilla ice cream and RC's with a Moon pie. Those were the days.
Awe, RC's with Moon Pie.❤️
“I love me some coke”
“Man coke is soo good”
We do this and my dad and I also use dr.pepper! Every time we would go to the feed store! (I'm from Texas)
I actually lived in east africa and i grew up doing this! Its amazing.... I love that you gave it a shot!
Ok,I'm an old lady who grew up in Texas and this was very popular when I was a kid.
My abuela does this with Dr Pepper and I haven’t tried it yet, love from San Antonio TX
when i was very young my great grandmother would have actual deliveries of Dr.Pepper to her house here in Knoxville TN...and the racks they came in were wooden and painted with the logos...whenever my parents and younger brother visited she would tell my mom "get those little devils a Pepper" still one of my favorite drinks... high quality root beer and chocolate milk are also a really good combination...much like a milkshake...
Oh wow !!! Fascinating!!!Such a nice story thank you for sharing 🤩👼also never heard of that combination, will give it a go sounds really good.
The seriousness with which you're describing the taste of this delicious but very sill snack is just really charming.
In West Africa some eat crispy salted roasted peanuts with hot sweetened millet porridge. The trick being to eat it all before the peanuts become soggy.
This is something my family has always done. We also mix cornbread and milk that was always one of my favorite snacks after my grandma would fix cornbread.
My mother taught me the cornbread and milk thing. It is very good.
AndrewWayneV
That's good, mine did cornbread and buttermilk, not so good.
My grandma would always make that for me with the left over cornbread after a meal for a snack. It's sooooo good. I have now passed the torch and tradition on to my babies who are 8 and 10-they love it.
This reminded me of my Papaw, he LOVED him some cornbread and buttermilk mixed together in a glass. He passed away just last year and I miss him so much that I just can't stand it sometimes.
Kay. Films oh wow I forgot that one, or fresh bread with milk
My mom would do this, I’m making cornbread to try this out, I remembered it was delicious 😋
Im Mexican and my family, as well as my wife's family, also do this.
Yup, used to do this when I was young. I live in South Texas; used Dr. Pepper. Not many people did it, like it wasn’t super popular in my area, but it did exist.
I feel like I'm watching a class that's part home ec, part cooking, part science, all very enjoyable. Thanks Emmy!
Barbara Mandrel song called "I was country, when country wasn't cool" mentions this lovely culinary combo. And it's a GREAT SONG!l too!!!
Peanuts & Coke??? What is this witchcraft!!!
It is a southern classic. You've gotta try it
Hahahaha
Grew up doing this in VA - salty and sweet in one go!!!
At first I was disgusted by it , but thinking about eating a bowl of peanuts while having a coke isn't that bad. I would rather do the latter instead , makes the peanuts maintain crunchy
I grew up in VA been here all my life, and i haven't ever heard of this!!!!
My mom grew up in Mexico and had this often! I didn't realize it was a common snack for others. Her family grew up very poor so this inexpensive combo was a real rare treat for them!
Sunflower seeds and Coke was always my favorite, I was raised in an general store the family owned, and so may farmers from around the ridge would sit and drink this with me
This is such a southern thing. Most of the people I grew up with would either use Coke or Dr.Pepper with honey roasted or regular peanuts interchangeably.
You know, I didn't realize people -don't- do this.
It's funny that you grow up with all these southern things that are every day commen and other people have never heard of!
Pepsi and honey roasted peanuts 10/10
Bbq peanuts and coke is the way to go
It's not a southern thing. I'm from Arizona and we did this as kids. Pepsi or Coke
In New Zealand we are lucky enough that all our Coke is made with real cane sugar, even the stuff in the big 1.5 and 2l bottles. As for eating/drinking at the same time, isn't that what we do with cereal and milk?
da5idnz à
Here too in Indonesia
I’m an American, but I’ve been living in NZ for the past couple years and god I don’t think I’ll ever be able to go back to high fructose syrup coke
I heard about this in the early 2000s from
The book The Secret Life of Bees! Love the combo. Never tried it with a glass bottle coke. I should!
I heard about this combo and I was like no way that can be good, then I tried it and it’s amazing
Bottled Cokes and Dr.Peppers are wayyyy better than the corn syrup stuff! I'm allergic to corn so I can only have the real sugar drinks. My brother tries to steal my bottled Dr.Peppers all the time, he says the corn stuff can't compete with the real sugar lol!
GOD I love your adorable hair.
STALKER!! bahha
Shit's wack.
Just catching up some missed videos - yes! This was definitely a thing I knew of as a child growing up in north Alabama. It wasn't really something I ate/drank back then.... but revisiting it now!? Heck yeah! I'd totally forgotten about this, and I'm definitely going to retry it. Sounds right up my alley lol. Thanks for sharing! 👍
Do you know how calming your voice is? Whenever I'm agitated I watch your videos. I also watch them when I'm not agitated just so you know. But yeah. Super calming. I love you. Thank you.
Oh yeah. Mexican cola is the BOMB! And along with other soda brands made in Mexico
Estrella Hermosillo Canadian Coca Cola is good too. Maybe Mexican Cola is little bit better. 🇲🇽 = Cane Sugar, 🇨🇦 = Beet Sugar, 🇺🇸 = Corn Syrup.
RC Cola is what you want
jet me take a guess you are from the south right?
Lol my mom's aunt drinks that!
Warren P What's RC Cola???
Wendis World its a generic brand coke easily found in southern USA
It's not generic, Royal Crown Cola is it's own brand introduced in 1905. They also did Nehi and Diet Rite as well. RC is now a part of Dr Pepper Co. Nothing better than an RC Cola and a Moon Pie!
It's called a cheap dinner date in the late 50,s early 60,s !
My mom grew up in Alabama, and has told us about the tradition of using whatever change she earned to go down to the "corner store" as a kid to get herself a coke & packet of peanuts for this very purpose. She is now 72 and lives with us. I think I will surprise her soon with this treat, now that you've reminded me of the stories! Thanks so much!
I grew up in West Texas in the early 70's and RC Cola and a pack of Tom's Salted Peanuts was very popular. I tried it a few times but wasn't a big fan. Definitely brought back good memories though.
Gotta swirl it around before each drink or every few so that won't happen T.
Rick Pinkerton-I grew up in west Texas too, Lubbock. We went to the dollar movies in New Home,(teeny little town with about 200 people)got RC cola or Dr. Pepper, and little cardboard barrels of peanuts. In the bottom of the barrel would be a coin, from a penny to a 50 cent piece. The coins were NOT wrapped in anything, and we would lick the salt off. That didn't survive for long. We also had suckers called Charms, with money in them. Man, those were culinary treats. Late '60s early '70s
I lived in Oklahoma most of my life. I remember being younger, walking to the store with my cousins getting a glass bottle of coke & a pack of peanuts & mixing them together. It was such a treat for us! 😋
I just found you in the last few weeks as I'm trying to entertain myself at home during covid. I am 66 years old. Coke and peanuts was our treat when I was a young child. I live in Arkansas. We would go to the laundromat and my mother would get us a coke with peanuts. Loved them. Now I want to say I really enjoy your channel. I think you are courageous to try some of the things you do like mre and weird recipes. I am also very envious of your thrift store finds. You are so cute!
These videos get me through work almost every day
I,m from Lumberton, N.C., been doing this since I was little, I,m 60 years old.

I’m 59 and I grew up doing it too! Sure wish times were that simple now.

I didn't realize this was something anyone hadn't heard of! I do think it's kind of an older southern thing, though, so maybe that's it. My great grandfather showed me this as a kid and I love it and still do it from time to time!
Brandy Nettleton I'm fascinated by this and also boiled peanuts, I'm dying to try the boiled peanuts I'm going to attempt to make them tomorrow can't wait x
@@geordielassie1 yes! boiled peanuts are my fav! I live in east Tennessee and we have them at just about every gas station set up in crock pots to keep them warm and they come in cajun or regular flavors. my favorite is the cajun.

Brandy Nettleton Did you guys pop the top, swig, open the goobers, & & pour 'm into the bottle from a corner of the bag?
I am totally just wondering how an experienced person would do this
Not just a southern thing my friend.....we did all the time up in pacific northwest
I grew up also doing this and it’s a nice treat. I also believe it must be in a glass bottle, it’s best and perfect amount.
Middle TN country girl PRO TIPS: never pour all your peanuts in a once, I always like to pour a bit, drink/eat a bit, they won’t get soagy that way. Second tip is wipe or shake out a bit of salt from your handful before putting in and it’ll keep it from getting over salty.
Since I can now purchase low sodium peanuts and even salt free, I’ll buy those instead.
And last tip, if you want to be able to drink your soda for refreshment and also enjoy the treat of the peanuts like on a hot day and don’t want to taint it all, pop a mouthful of nuts and takaswig, repeat ;)
As an Alabama teen in the 90s, I remember a near toothless old hillbilly taught me the joys of peanuts in Coke. I'd drink some of the Coke, pour in a quarter of a packet of peanuts in. When there were no peanuts in the bottle, I'd pour more in.
Dr. Pepper works too.
Wow that burp! I bet he expelled a pound of carbon dioxide.
I have so many questions, such as, how does someone with no teeth eat peanuts. So they just swallow it whole like a pill?
@@i-vlog1994 hard gums.
But seriously, the old man had some teeth. He was missing a lot.
Gonna edit the original post to read, near toothless.

My granny (maternal grandmother) grew up and lived most of her life quite poor, and every time we went to the gas station down from her house for snacks, she’d get this combination. It was her idea of an indulgent treat. God bless her soul, I miss her so much. ❤️ I love to eat this-it’s nostalgic and yummy. We’re from S.C., and many others here love it.

Love you and your videos Emmy! This one is my childhood! I'm from Mobile, AL. Anywhere they sold coke in a bottle, we put peanuts in!! Delicious! No Drive In Movie was complete without this treat!
MY GIRL!!!!!!! This is my favorite way to drink coke with peanuts. I've eaten this my whole life. There is nothing better for a quick snack. you just drink a couple of sips and open the bag of nuts and pour them in and its also better to wait for like a minute to let the taste merge. Wonderful.
I learned to do this from my wife we both grew up in Texas and I never heard of it but apparently my whole family has been doing it since they were kids! Go figure. Anyways now its one of my favorite treats!
Yep we are in Texas, that would explain why I know about it.
I grew up in Texas and mom and I would drink cokes like this when I was little. It's Texan and Southern.
GreenMan 0352 I’m from Texas and have never done this, but I do not drink regular coke.

From Texas
Cousins?
Been doing this all of my 44 years. My dad taught me before he died when I was 6. Said it was the only way to do it when he was in Vietnam.
I don't know that this is specifically a southern thing. I grew up about as close to the Canadian border as you can get and we did this growing up in the 70s.
This combination began showing up in the southern and midwestern regions shortly after Pemberton invented his famous coca-cola back in the 19th century. They didn't know it then but the peanut salt combined with the natural coca leaf extract (cocaine) in the soda gave them a speedy buzz which gave it that POP! People always talked about. #Themoreyouknow

I worked at a small town old school service station as a teenager that lots of local senior citizens frequented and gathered at. We sold a glass bottle Coke and a bag of peanuts combo at least 3 times a day, I'd say. We had a steel bottle opener attached to the counter with an old crate underneath that was emptied weekly.
I've always really loved RC Cola, which we also sold in glass bottles, and would empty a bag of honey roasted peanuts -- along with the debris from the bottom of the bag -- for more of a desserty snack.
I love your videos...watching this one reminded me of being young with my sister..this was a treat for us once a week at the country store in TN...Thanks for bringing back some memories
