    Hi guys, you made a very interesting video on the Salkantay trek. I like it. However, I wonder if you understood the music playing in the first minute, or maybe you just liked the sound and put it into the video. Also, you had perfect weather for four days but unfortunately, the day of Machu Picchu was misty, right? Anyways, I hope you enjoyed it. yes! and that Llama was so funny, they are just wandering around in Machu Picchu.

      Hey thanks for the comment! That song was playing in the car when we were driving and I used Shazam to find it. What do the lyrics say? And yes the day of Machu Picchu was misty but still beautiful.

    Is it better to bring your own trekking gear to Peru or buy it from the secondhand stores in places like Cusco?

    • @groovymashedpotatoes1361
      @groovymashedpotatoes1361  5 років тому +1

      This is a good question. You can rent the required items from the trekking companies. This one gave us our sleeping bags but also would have given coats. Gear is really all about comfort and the Inca used to do this trail in wool layers! If you plan to do lots of trekking or cold weather or rain activity in your life and want to invest I would highly recommend buying the following. First is your hiking boots. Try lots on and find one that fits you well make sure it’s waterproof. Second is a gore text or similar shell jacket it’s like your second skin and works in all seasons. Third would be a wool base layer, thing long pants and a long sleeved shirt. And fourth would be a down or synthetic puff jacket for underneath, this is great for camp wear and brings your kit to ~0-3 deg Celsius. Don’t forget a headlamp!

    Great video! Congrats, we plan to travel this Dec with the same company, hope it will be great! If you have to choose the best moment/view, will it be at Humantay, Salkantay or Machu Picchu mountain?

    • @groovymashedpotatoes1361
      @groovymashedpotatoes1361  5 років тому +1

      Hiking up the salkantay pass is amazing. Make sure to leave early for best chances to see the beautiful mountain before the clouds come in. Humantay was nice and refreshing. Machu Picchu is breathtaking. I recommend spending a good amount of energy to connect with the land and the people that live there through the whole trek. It is very rewarding!

    Hey I am going this November how much did you pay and did you pay ahead of time or when you got to cusco? Any info would help I am taking the hop bus for 3 days up to cusco then spending one day in cusco before the trek do you think that's enough for the altitude? One night before will be in arequipa which is also higher altitude. Thanks for any info!

      We are going this November too! I’m looking to use the group called Salkantay Trekking. What have you found?

      @@NeilSeaver I am looking at the same company...They are saying its $450 us per person..I'm trying to see if it's cheaper to wait till cusco to sign up with this company or if I have to pay ahead to secure a spot...Ive heard of people paying $200 or less so I dont want to pay that much if I dont have to. But I dont want to get screwed either so just looking for opinions of people who have done it and how they did it. This guy used salkantaytrekking.com too i can tell by his guides clothing that's why I'm hoping he responds :)

      MyLifeAdventures there’s a group called donomades.com that does the tour and I did see it for under 200 on their site. I stlll need to work out what the difference is between The two tour companies. We’d be doing the hike thanksgiving week.

      @@NeilSeaver yes I seen one Machupicchu Reservations that's pretty cheap but I don't think they go to the sky dome and I think the one for 180 USD was the 4 day where you skip the pass I think and I wouldn't want to skip anything so here I am still wondering XD. Doesn't seem to have clear answers online on whether to wait or book ahead... I'll be starting the trek Either the 20th or 21st of November...

    • @groovymashedpotatoes1361
      @groovymashedpotatoes1361  5 років тому +1

      Great question! When you’re on the trail hiking you have to use the “Inca toilet” meaning find a spot outside. So bring toilet paper with you. During some parts of the hike it was possible to pay one Sol as you pass houses to use their toilet. Bring a few 1 Sol coins with you! All the camps had nice bathrooms with toilets!

      Sometimes in a foreign country it's so satisfying to eat familiar food. Even when you like the food where you are nothing says HOME like a quarter pounder with cheese. And seeing those arches.
      Eating quey (sp) just doesnt satisfy
