I've owned an Audi, VWs,a Merc and a Toyota. By far the best car that I've ever owned is my '04 V70R MT AWD which is a Volvo and it's fantastic. The only people that hate on Volvos are the ones that have never owned one. "Lol.."
It is pretty fast though, around 5.2 - 5.5 seconds 0-60 mph. I think it is really fast off the line and from 20-40, 40-60, and 60-80+. When I mash the gas the car takes off and asks for more. A lot of people have tried to "race" me from stop lights or on the highway and are surprised that I smoked them. It is much faster than a BMW 328xi, an Audi A4, Charger R/T, etc. I hope they bring the polestar version to the U.S. It should be sub 4 second 0-60. Enjoy the car!!!!!!
I know Cooley's a tough critic, but thanks to how he reviews the good, the bad, and the ugly about cars, I can at least go in without unreasonable expectations. For example, he ripped on the C30 pretty hard, I bought one anyway, but ended up super happy because my expectations were properly managed. Haha. Awesome car but some of his complaints were right. Although it HAS stood the test of time better than the competition which most viewers preferred for the money (when new).
I have a 2012 S60 R-Design and is is badass! Smokes 328's, A4, etc. As fast as G37. A Mustang GT or Camaro SS will beat it, but those are 0-60 in the 4's. The S60 R-Design has a great turbo, sport suspension, and steering feel. Go drive one and then judge.
I also just purchased the 2013 R-Design w/Platinum package - OMG I totally love this car. Sure its not going to win a ton of drag races off the line - but for what it is, it is fun to drive, damn good looking car, lots of tech features in it, and the seats are freaking amazingly comfortable.
This car is kind of the modern 2010's and beyond version of the 1993 Volvo 850 (also red) that actress Sally Field drove in the movie "Mrs. Doubtfire" in of course San Francisco.
perhaps Volvo should bring back alive the spirit of 850R & S70R, equivalent to the BTCC standards, head to head with M5 & RS4, instead of this Cnet's kind of "version R".
every one that comes into my bay at work, has yet to have a h/k emblem anywhere, secondly, the yellow lines/dots are guides. They dont promise or guarantee your car will fit, it is there to give you a visual idea of where the car is going
This car wouldn't be stealing BMW drives away, maybe Mercedes and Audi which is a little bit more towards luxury and comfort. Enthusiasts still want a car with good road feedback and good handling capabilities.
Dude get your facts straight. Firstly the audio is Harman Kardon and not Odyssey like you stated. Secondly the dotted line shows you if your vehicle can fit between 2 cars or 2 obstacles, nothing to do with distance reversing. Do your research before looking stupid on the interent for everyone to see.and the sport mode on the transmission is designed exaclty for that, Not for 30 mph cruising/driving.
And no, the dotted line does not 'shows you if your vehicle can fit between 2 cars or 2 obstacles'. The lines are there to guide you into a space, yes. That's incredibly obvious, and not what he's talking about. He's talking about the dotted lines which do in fact indicate distance (and according to the owner's manual, each line = 1 foot). Take a class on comprehension before telling other people how they look stupid.
Decent review and reviewer. I'm a bit bored of the "news anchor" style narration. Every American car review sounds nearly the same. I can't even take listening to John Davis on Motorweek anymore.
Did he just say the Audi is the benchmark? The review lost its credibility right away after he said that, lol. Audis are fine cars, but calling it a benchmark is just plain wrong, lol.
It's difficult to say because for its safety the Volvo is good but for an engine it's got to be a Mercedes but for luxury it's the BMW and for performance it's the Audi
I don't need a pedestrian detection device; I have eyeballs for that. I don't want multiple suspension and steering options that only confuse me, not to mention my wife. I don't want a car that stops on its own. All that does is make you irresponsible to the point you think it's safe to text and drive. Then where are you when the system fails, which is something that's going to happen eventually? I don't want a bunch of gimmicky gadgets that are going to break and cost me a fortune to fix. I want a solid, safe, reliable car with decent performance and gas mileage. I would like the car to be comfortable and good looking. If I could just dump all the gimmicks, I could get this car down to around $28,000 and it would be perfect.
Imagine a scenario whereas you are very tired after work. You get in the car and after like 10 min of driving you might be so tired you miss things, like people/pedestrians. So no, your just trying to be a smartass thinking yourself that I can't do anything wrong.
Volvo cars are for old people. In my opinion they have nothing exciting or interesting for young people. If you don't believe me, pay attention when you are out on the streets and you'll see old people are the ones driving Volvos.
Some people just want a nice daily and want something original. Ive already got an actual sports, i dont need another one. Btw theres nothing sporty about your blacked out nissan altime/toyota/honda etc. Not a sports car so dont try to make them one. Same goes for this, if you want something exciting then get an actual sports car

As much as I like pure sports cars, cars like these are growing on me more and more. So very awesome!

I just bought one, and it is AWESOME!
My dream car is a volvo, I guess that's strange for a 14 year old, but I love there cars
zeeman707 I was 16, and I told myself I am gonna get a volvo
This car is kind of the modern 2010's and beyond version of the 1993 Volvo 850 (also red) that actress Sally Field drove in the movie "Mrs. Doubtfire" in of course San Francisco.
This car is so much better than the Audi A4.
Like the blue accent lights god i cnt believe i like a volvo
This guy is great! No nonsense reviews...love it!

Volvo is not stealing nobody's customers away!
Since they are not stealing nobody's, they are stealing somebody's.
eltingville81 they got me lol. Love this car
Beautiful 60. I know that AB Volvo is owned by the parent of Geely Automobile, is it safe to assume that R&D is still conducted at Gothenburg?
"The Volvo is a nice little fella, but not without its dude faults, guy."
Haha, good review.
This car wouldn't be stealing BMW drives away, maybe Mercedes and Audi which is a little bit more towards luxury and comfort. Enthusiasts still want a car with good road feedback and good handling capabilities.
What a great car
Four C Chassis is not available as option on S60 R-Design
This is my dream car!
Do you own it now?
Perfect car

God this guy has no business reviewing cars
dotted line is the edge of your cars body line..
why did the person stop if your gonna get hit by a car run
They still have a 6 speed manual...right?
no
At the end of the day, it's still a Volvo. And when I think of Volvo's I don't exactly think "Oh yeah, those are cool cars." Lol...
@jendeh1000 Why would you want an Audi though??
why do they leave the engine naked :@
I nearly spit coffee through my nose when this guy suggests that Audi (ne VW) is a benchmark for smoothness. Huh?
snydergt They are super smooth.
i find the older s60 2001 ish more good looking
Whatttt?? Audi sound ? Well I guess there in USA is so because you get blown V6 and V8's but in Europe you almost never see but diesels
Volvo s60 t6 r 2012 or Mazdaspeed 3 2012?
Mazda M/t Volvo a/t
I but Volvo Mazda os cery good car
Did anyone else see the screen flash at 2:00? Connect external device to AUX input.

This gut is a tough critic. He disses so much things lol which I like hahaha
Look at the wheels at 5:58 it doesnt even looks like the car is rolling :P
Amen !
I checked out every model volvo released ..unless you wanna buy a polestar you won't find a sporty looking version
Nice Geely
it will still go 250000 miles reliably...
you always need a manual in cars like this
Decent review and reviewer. I'm a bit bored of the "news anchor" style narration. Every American car review sounds nearly the same. I can't even take listening to John Davis on Motorweek anymore.
4:23 a premature Dab
Cooley did it first.
left the keys near me plz!!!!!!!!!! :p
volvo
The 328 is not a fast car it’s a 2.0L engine the T6 R easily competes with 335 and the s4.

I'm not convinced
it looks like a chevy from the front ._.
no paddles or manual??! why???? what a waste needs a clutch!!
@imbored200 hi
the front looks like a lexus...
For the same kind of money you can get an Audi.
I don't need a pedestrian detection device; I have eyeballs for that.

Annnddd you just described Saabs philosophy compared to Volvo... For a modern replacement try the new 2015 Subaru Legacy.
hi
Cnet's first
This car is way faster then 5.5 sec , more like 4.9 5.0 sec car , this guy is a clown , doesn’t know anything about Volvo’s
nice car, a little over priced however
new volvo looks to flat and boring this 2012 volvo looks more better and not boring i have same
i still like BMW bater
c`mon just drive your polo (VW) then ... :)
This guy could not have gotten more things incorrect, or inaccurate if he tried... What a lukewarm review...

ZR1Terror lo people are always surprised it see me pull up.. they're targeting younger people with these cars..i love it

How old do you have to be to buy one?
I think its ugly as hell. Still think the s60 2001 is much better looking!
