- “13 for NP” was my contribution to the Modern Drummer Festival Neil Peart Tribute. I tried my best to compose a piece that honored a man who always composed his parts, and it was an honor to be asked to participate in this tribute. As well, it was fun to compose this tribute to pay my respects. “13 for NP” is in 13/8 subdivided 2-2-3-3-3 or 2-2-3-2-2-2 or 2-2-2-2-2-3. Thanks to Modern Drummer Magazine, JR Taylor and Eric Dorris for audio & video, and to Neil.
I feel if Rush ever toured again that Todd would be the absolute perfect selection to play their tunes live. It would seem almost like an organic situation where even the purists would love. Just a thought....great playing as usual.
Todd is the ONLY other professor I would watch perform and perfect the drumming of Neil. This video gave me the biggest lump in my throat and the toast and the end was Niagara down my face! Perfect, how Todd never said a word. His drumming and toast said it all! Thank You Todd. RIP Neil
If I'm not mistaken, that's a bottle of The Macallan single malt whisky that's behind Todd's right shoulder. That was Neil's favorite. What a great nod from one great to another! The drumming wasn't too bad, either!
Good eye, timbali01!
Kenny. Arnoff talked about sitting on a porch with Neil and sipping a glass of that back with a couple of tokes over looking a lake Neil owned
That's the beauty of it.
Ahhh, "The Macallan". 🥃✌🏾🥁
The Macallan behind Todd was a great touch :)
Todd, I started crying when I saw your tribute. The legacy he left, and the thousands upon thousands of people he touched is something that is very special and dear to me. I had the chance to meet Rush in 2002 at the Gorge in George (WA), and my life could have ended at that very moment. The irony of his illness from one of the most brilliant minds in music and life, is so tragic in more ways than I can comprehend. I still tear up when I play to Rush. THANK YOU SO MUCH for this dedication. I am at a loss as to why his passing has seemed to have gone unnoticed. I also understand that he would probably want it that way as he was an extremely shy person when it came to his recognition and praise. Long live the professor!! I hope that was a nice vintage of The Macallan you were toasting. Your performance has made it to my "mix tape" and I also bow to your accomplishments in playing. Superb!.
N.P. R.I.P.
I'd go with Millions upon Millions....but yeah...you're emotion and complement stands.
When Neil passed I wept hard...and I mean HARD. When I watch Rush's live performance of The Garden it breaks me down pretty hard to this day. ua-cam.com/video/EsBNzf5JlZA/v-deo.html
And hoists a drink to the great man himself! Sucherman is a class act all the way.
A tribute to my favorite drummer by my other favorite drummer. Respect to both of you. Both in mind and spirit. Wonderful human beings.
same
His double-bass is amazing!
AMEN !! TODD- YOU ARE ALL CLASS!! I LOVE YOU 💜
If The Professor could see this, I’m sure that he would be proud of you Todd, inspired, appreciate what you’ve done, and respect it. Incredible piece you composed here.
GREAT JOB, DRUMMER AND AWESOME HUMAN BEING WHOM I ADMIRE . NEIL WOULD BE VERY HUMBLED ❤️💜🙏
A fitting tribute. Neil's art permeated music and culture, his work ethic raised everybody's bar. Cheers!
Todd, excellent tribute to the Professor! I'm sure somewhere, that he's smiling!
Agreed
One of the traditional grip legends!
The drink drops it all....thank you...
It's even more fun watching your videos now after having taken your Masterclass in Daytona. To see you putting into practice all of the things you taught us just makes drumming for us mere mortals more doable now!
Awesome Tribute! Thanks for stopping by the CHROMEY booth at PASIC 2014 in Austin TX to see Neil's once owned and used Slingerland drumkit. Your autographs on the drumheads helped to raise "Big Money" for the American Cancer Society.
Todd - I strongly suspect that Neil would have absolutely loved that. Terrific composing. Just terrific. Gave the hint of a few of his more famous licks without replicating, threw in some seldom-used techniques, mixed complexity with simplicity, and had that "heck yeah!" drive throughout. Well done. Really enjoyed it.
That was EPIC Todd!
All of these Comments are great. The thing I would add is Todd's playing is always and I mean always musical. Makes a kit sound like another instrument in my view. Magical.
My new favorite drummer!!!
Masterpiece!! :) RIP Neil ....and thank you!
RIP Neil
This just might be the coolest thing I've ever seen! WOW! Neil would be Proud as hell!! #RipNeilPeart
Nice job....beautiful. Neil would love it.
The Macallan 12 was a nice touch.
Awesome drummer Todd I love your drum kit awesome
I over heard some folks talking and they were so said Neil died...one gentleman leaned in and said, yes. He died. But oh, how he lived And he lives here, with us all, still. with Todd calling him forth. every time we listen. He is there. Thanks Sucherman. You did it again. For us all.
This is absolutely beautiful. My second favorite drummer paying tribute to my first favorite drummer. I love that you added the little YYZ intro in there as well. This is truly a masterpiece, thank you for sharing it with us
This piece is a wonderful tribute by my current favorite player to the great Neil Peart, my first real favorite.
Todd’s the man- and he’s a class act.
Todd, thank you, pure class.
Todd you’ve made an entire song with just the drums. Incredible 👏 Just stellar
Hmmm! Why was it Todd has been one of my favorite drummers for years now??? Oh yes.....
Fantastic drumming but my eyes can’t help but be drawn to that lovely Premier concert tom kit behind Todd!
I come back to this video several times over. The quality of arrangement and musicianship is absolutely incredible. Job well done, sir!! And a great tribute to one of my favorite drummers.
Geez Todd's talent is out of this world. Would love to see him tour with RUSH... no disrespect... would be an amazing show...
This is awesome. Neil was my favourite great tribute! 🥁🥁✊
OMG...this is insane! Too many Todds!
Todd, you Sir are the best drummers in my book amongst all the other greats. You have taught this ADHA after 40 years of drumming many chops and grooves. I would love to spend some time with you even if listening to you and watching you play. You are really a drummer who speaks my language in relating or connecting with me. My financial, like many others will not permit me to participate in any of you workshops. I've posted your videos on many drummer groups and they all loved it accept a few knuckleheads. 😎🥁👍
He has a magnificent masterclass on Drumeo, you should check it out!
Note that he said "drummers." I feel like that's a shout-out to each one of the other percussion players, which oddly looked and dressed like Todd...!
Superb 🤘😎👍🟥🍁🟥 "...and thanks for all the fish"🐟
No one does it like Todd!!
There is nothing like a world class drummer paying tribute to another world class drummer.
Seemingly a very rare thing even rarer with the passing of Neil Peart, a drummer with musicality, really enjoyable.
Musical. Jarring. Primal. Intricate. 🥁🥂
Todd, this was amazing!! What an absolutely brilliant and beautiful tribute to The Professor. I have so much love for this but feel an ache of sadness at the same time because just as he did, this piece tells a story from beginning to end. I had so much love and respect for Neil and I have so much admiration for what you’ve done. Bravo, this is just simply awesome!!!
We lost one of the world’s most powerful and innovative percussionists.
A fitting tribute to “the Professor”.
He will always be “your favorite drummers, favorite drummer “!!
Having the 'Macallan' was a very nice touch. Beautifully played and constructed. Cheers!
Love! I watch about once a week! Thank you Todd! 🤙🏽😎🥁
Beautiful. Thank you Gents

You are my Inspiration, Sir!
I would LOVE to see Todd playing Subdivions...
wow, Todd is one of the best imo, combining finesse with power and amazing creativity.
That was excellent!! A Macallan cheers to you too!!
Flawless perfection! Loved the layered sounds, the added tone of the extra snare. You are the man Todd, always a treat watching you play! Stay well!
Beautiful piece of artistry. Also, the first time I've seen Flam Rats played around the kit, and so musically.
Neil is smiling..
He would have thought you pretty dumb to believe that.
Merry Christmas Pete...

I've always been a big fan of Neil's work, and I can say with confidence, if ever saw this, without a doubt,
he would LOVE it!!!!
Also a fan of Todd's work as well and am further impressed by this.
Todd, this performance is a thoughtful and well written tribute to NP.
I love hearing your drums solo’d so that we can really appreciate the shells and the tuning.
The gong hits coupled with the china is so powerful man🤘🏼🥁
Love the toast 🎵🙏🏼
Awesome drummer beautiful KIT. ⛵🙏😎👍
The whiskey for the finale! Nice touch. 👍
Todd just keeps raising the bar....on himself!
Awesome job Todd. Neil would love it
Terry Bozzio does all this at once on the kit. Just messing with you Todd. Excellent video! I really enjoyed it.
Awesome Todd 😎 Fitting tribute to Neil. I met you a few years ago at the London Drum Show in the UK. You were such a nice guy and really down to earth. I shall treasure the signed photo of you 😊🥁
todd one of my favorite drummers

One drum god paying tribute to another drum god -- magical!
Beautiful. And that ending 🥃 10/10
Thank you Todd! Sort of a T4E style kit. I love the Partridge Family snare above the Elixir of Life...

Nice Saturday morning treat to get the blood flowing!
I don't know what you're drinkin'....but it WORKS! Tasty chops per usual Todd.....WELL done.
I was thinking if they ever did anything else, who would they get to play Drums? You were the first person to come to mind. Great Job. Respect
So beautiful! Thank You, Todd!
Gracias Todd, gran trabajo, saludos desde un lugar llamado Chile.
Fantastic... And inspiring!!! 👍👍👍
Thank you Todd. Nuff said.
Superb. Never heard of this guy. Will delve deeper
Excellent NP tribute. Had the mixed time signatures and combos like Mr. Peart. Thanks!
Amazing job!
Cheers to The Professor !
The first tribute I've seen that has been something I said "Neil would have dug this a lot". Especially the world percussion scenes with the single strokes leading into the next odd time rhythmic sections and then coming back in. The end was so fantastic as well. Beautifully created and masterfully executed! Neil is smiling down at this one!
Don't think those were single strokes. A series of six stroke rolls with triplet connectors. I took a fantastic 26 week online course with Todd. He demonstrated how the six stroke rolls with the connectors is done. Magical.
this is why your my third favorite drummer behind neil peart and phil collins
That was GREAT!! Thank you for sharing it with us.
I am in awe and admiration of your truly great musical artistry, love the variations, textures, voicings and of course double bass, far out excellence!
"Nice touch" my man, we all miss him much...thank you for your heart
Awesome drumming and great sound! :-)
Symphonic. Wonderful. Thank you.
Much respect. A fitting tribute, indeed. Cheers.
Excellent tribute. You definitely captured Neil’s rhythmic style. Your kit sounds awesome too.
Tribute - From: Yoda TS To: Yoda NP. Very, very nicely done. Merry Christmas to you and the fam, Todd!!
Great job Mr. Sucherman. To tose 15 people who gave a thumbs down - Post your drumming videos.
what a great tribute. I would love to see more videos of you playing in your home studio. I really enjoy not only listening to you play, but watching you play as well. Cheer!
Beautiful Todd! Well done!
Nice job Todd! I've seen you with Styx a handful of times since 2000 and always knew you were a great drummer.. but seeing a solo composition like this I am super impressed. The Professor would be PROUD!!!
