Todd Sucherman performs the Styx song "Renegade" on April 6, 2010 at Husson University Captured on a Canon 7D through a Canon 70-200mm lens F/2.8, 30fps
It doesn't get any better than this. Perfect musicianship. No holes anywhere. Not too much; just right. He's also a perfect gentleman and handles his tremendous success very well.
Chuckie, whose brother John played for these guys said Todd was a better drummer. When you replace a drummer, Todd shows us proof why you choose wisely. My first album as a 13 year old was Equinox. It just came out. Never stopped being a Styx fan. Long live badass drummers.
This dude is the epitome of human metronome. Seems as even when a bad note is hit that it still kicks ass. Meter, chops, and groove for miles. Styx was smart to ask him to join.
This guy blows my mind. I am not as much of a Styx fan as I was when I was much younger, but just the same, it is so inspiring watching a master drum like he does!!! GO GO GO!!!
Greg p He didn't lose it. He deliberately tossed it. That stick was about to break and he knew it. Sometimes you can tell when a stick is a few hits away from snapping when it starts rebounding awkwardly. Lucky for him it happened in a natural pause in the song.
Ok.. this is gonna be a weird observation but I'm REALLY mind-boggled by this... Todd obviously closed with this song, but.. what happened to his shirt being DRENCHED in sweat? Hopefully someone who was there has an explanation...
because it's not a live concert performance...it says it was a recording from a university...so my guess is he was playing along with a live recording at a clinic or something like that. Watch the very end...his hit to end the song doesn't line up with what the band is doing so it's not from a concert. It's also a smaller kit than he uses live so it must be a percussion clinic. He also reaches over and shuts off the recording on the board next to him at 5:10
Todd is an excellent drummer because his fundamentals in drumming are heavily rooted in playing Jazz which translates into his impeccable timing and grooves....You're welcome
Definitely love his playing more and more every day, He's a cool dude to chat with on FB and all that but those flailing endings just ruin it every time.
+Kermit Tolley you prolly play it to john panazzo style, which is the most basic simplistic way to play it. this is todds on style and in my opinion. he just made it the correct way to play it
That flip over the back of the stick was legendary
Solid as hell...Todd is one of the great pro's playing today...
I could watch Todd play all day!
He has every bit the fluidity and smoothness of Dave Weckl while still pounding on the drums like a gorilla. What a monster behind the kit Todd is.
That's not pounding
@@zachcline7555 Thanks for the input, Zach.
Meter, feel, groove and chops. Rock solid. Total package. 🔥
Who are the idiots giving thumbs down? LOL Todd is amazingly talented.
It doesn't get any better than this. Perfect musicianship. No holes anywhere. Not too much; just right. He's also a perfect gentleman and handles his tremendous success very well.
That, he does. One of the nicest people you'll ever meet. And a monster drummer.
I agree with you and he holds the left stick in the traditional manner. Not many do anymore. He will give Neil Pert a run for his money.
Met Todd on a few occasions. Very nice. Gregg Bissonette is also very down to earth.
@@Chuck883 Neil was a legend, and Todd stands on the shoulders of the drumming giants. He mire than carries tbe torch.
Todd, you are an incredible drummer. Your time is impeccable and your groove is always fantastic!
did i just bring everybody back 50 years

I don't know that there is a better rock drummer than Todd
Simply the best rock drummer out there today! 👍🥁🎼
There was but he died..
Todd and Steve Smith --- Drummer's Drummers. The Best! There must be something in the water at Berlklee.
Absolutely sick performance.
World Class...
One of my favorites and one of the best on the planet!
The way he plays this a bit up tempo from the original really makes this song groove way harder
ROCK solid. A human metronome with taste, style, and just enough flash. Perfect playing to drive this song. Incredible!
Totally amazing, Todd is a phenomenal drummer!!
Always in BEAST MODE...
This dude is the epitome of human metronome. Seems as even when a bad note is hit that it still kicks ass. Meter, chops, and groove for miles. Styx was smart to ask him to join.
completely superb! best drummer in my opinion!
Todd is a bad dude one of the best today in my opinion
This guy blows my mind. I am not as much of a Styx fan as I was when I was much younger, but just the same, it is so inspiring watching a master drum like he does!!! GO GO GO!!!
Simply amazing!!!
Man, what a drummer.
I was there. Best drummer EVER!
BEAST
Very cool! Really nice drumming!
The Best
Thanks for the post. There is another guy on youtube that has footage of this clinic.
MONSTER
This is a musician!!!!!
no one plays renegade like todd
@tannertehpianist
about 3:45 ish I didn't catch till I saw your comment, I was just blown away with his playing I didn't see it .lol
Y E A B U D D Y! ! !***
Flam master
Anyone notice how much higher his cymbals sit up high compare to now days that they sit much lower in his drum set ?
yeah and nice stck through
He be lost his right stick at 1:22, and surprisingly comes up with another!
Greg p He didn't lose it. He deliberately tossed it. That stick was about to break and he knew it. Sometimes you can tell when a stick is a few hits away from snapping when it starts rebounding awkwardly. Lucky for him it happened in a natural pause in the song.
Man when my dad told me he was doing a clinic near our home town after the date I was so fucking pissed
I put a crash cymbal way to the right rear like that and woke up with tennis elbow, a golf ball sized thing in my elbow that stayed for over a month.
You're lucky it only lasted a month. Tennis elbow is a bitch to get rid of.
Does he break a stick or just drop it before the guitar break?
He breaks the stick, throws it away, then reaches for a new one from his stick bag.
+B17MIKE he broke it!
he's the new Simon Phillips....... hands down
being 2018 I would like to see someone show me a better drummer... from the 3:50 mark on to end almost makes me piss myself every time I watch it....
Ok.. this is gonna be a weird observation but I'm REALLY mind-boggled by this... Todd obviously closed with this song, but.. what happened to his shirt being DRENCHED in sweat? Hopefully someone who was there has an explanation...

wtf?? when did he switch grips? lol
@blurbysherbert Oh really? Alright. And thank you, it was indeed very strange. hahahaha
Todd is an excellent drummer because his fundamentals in drumming are heavily rooted in playing Jazz which translates into his impeccable timing and grooves....You're welcome
AMAZING drummer.. And so musical.. But at one point I thought he would have the drum kit packed in its cases before they stop the aplause..LOL
Definitely love his playing more and more every day, He's a cool dude to chat with on FB and all that but those flailing endings just ruin it every time.
When you’re a hired gun for a band like Styx, I’m not sure they give you much choice about how they want the endings to sound.
Dear Todd, can i marry you? lol
He needs to learn to play this song correctly!!!!
Kermit Tolley Correctly? He's been in Styx for 20 years, he knows what he's doing and could out drum John P. any day
+Kermit Tolley you prolly play it to john panazzo style, which is the most basic simplistic way to play it. this is todds on style and in my opinion. he just made it the correct way to play it
Sounds pretty "correctly" to me, Mr smart guy
Pretty mediocre....Yawn....Just kidding!!
completely superb! best drummer in my opinion!
