Thank you !! This is so cool to see again after all these years . I was only 11 at the time and remember it like yesterday . I was really sad to see the actress leave the show , and it took me about a year to accept the new actress playing Heather . I think they both did wonderful jobs .
@@EastSide-qc5oySorry I don't and I watched The Brady Bunch all the time. Except maybe not the last season so much when they brought in cousin Oliver. There was 6 kids already. They didn't need another one. it ruined the show somewhat.
Edge Fan The last season was actually the season Brooke Bundy guest-starred on. There was an episode where she played the wife of Ken Berry. They were neighbors and friends of the Bradys, and were trying to adopt 3 kids all of whom were different ethnicities and ran into some prejudice from the community. The boys ran away and turned up on the Brady’s back porch overnight. It was one of the few episodes where they dealt with more serious subject matters. The network wanted to spin off this new family into their own weekly series but wound up not picking it up. There are clips here on UA-cam called “Kelly’s Kids”.
@@EastSide-qc5oy FYI, there is an old movie with Brooke Bundy available On Demand through Turner Classic Movies right now. I intend on watching it. On your information, I do not remember that episode(s) at all. I think I had maybe gotten bored with The Partridge Family and The Brady Bunch on Fridays from 8 to 9 pm in the early 70's. The Partridge Family ended after 4 years because David Cassidy quit the show and I guess The Brady Bunch was cancelled due to falling ratings?
Damn, Hunter von Leer (playing Larry Joe Baker) was a stud back then! Hubba....His hair was dyed, but he does look great with brown hair. Thanks for finding this! i wished they would put these on DVD sets.
No you're dead wrong! I knew that GH was about to get cancelled in 1978. According to the late Gloria Monty, she stated in an interview in the early '80s with "Entertainment Tonight" that she wanted to change the show direction by using Tony Geary and Genie Francis to capture a more younger audience. We can go back and forth on this, but you know damn well it was the Luke & Laura lovers on the run storyline in the summer of 1980, specifically that put GH on top and made it the number one soap.
this may have been O' Brien's only soap. She kinda looks like Lynn Herring did during her first year on GH as Lucy. She turned out to be a fan fave for years!
Damn, what I love about UA-cam is the buried treasures uncovered. I remember all these scenes so vividly, iit drove me to start audio recording shows. I loved this theme, crazy heather theme, London bridge is falling down, with dramatic music behind it, brilliant. It immediately set the tone!
- Hold the phone.. Did you say you use to audio record the soaps?? Did you by chance keep any of those precious GH audio tapes? Becasue we can overlay it on German footage for scenes after Jan 1980.. Or -- we have also posted just the audio with accompanying pictures - if the material was critcal to a certain storyline.. We will rebuild the history in any way we can!! Looking forward to your feedback! :)
AS MUCH AS I LOVED HEATHER AND JEFF AND THIS LSD STORYLINE ,AND ALAN AND MONICA....IM THE FIRST TO ADMIT AMERICA KNOWS THAT IT IS LUKE AND LAURA THAT HAS MADE SOAPS GO DOWN IN HISTORY AND CHANGED THE COURSE OF SOAPS AS THEY WERE TO ADVENTURE AND LOVE.IM SO GLAD THAT HAPPEND IT WAS HISTORY IN THE MAKING
Is it me? or does this Heather remind you of Lucy Coe? Same woman different name. If it hadn't been for MCGYVER, she would have a scheme to be Lucy Coe Webver.
I forgot about this post. This actress really does remind me of Lucy Coe. I could see Lucy Coe going all in for Jeff Webber or Joe Kelly, if they hadn't left the canvas.
Classic GH-a time when stories were about people not mobsters. The terrific Mary O'Brien is superb as a desperate woman with an unspeakable secret. I adore Robin Mattson but Mary's Heather is more subtle, colder and more desperate. This is GH at it's best!!! Also, kudos to Brooke Bundy, always superb as Diana Taylor.
Avatar from what I've read Richard Anderson has no desire to return as Jeff. He gained enormous fame as MacGiver after GH. He is known around the world as that character now and he revels in it. There are tons of youtube clips of him going to MacGiver fan events well into his 60s. He's over GH, lol. As far as Doug Sheehan ( Joe Kelly) I have no idea what he's doing now if he's still alive. I last saw him on Knotts Landing. I'd love to see him again. But I wonder what he would look like now. He would also be in his 60s. The same would apply to Susan Pratt ( Anne Logan),lol
I always remember him saying he wasn't going to be one of those actors who left a show and came back when he couldn't make it. He said if he was starving he would never come back.
you got that right. what a wondeful surprise to see these early shows before everything had to center around him though certain ppl knew him at least they didn't spoon feed him down our throats 60/5 like they would later in the year. I miss days where characters had to build before we could catch on and we'd get to decide whether we liked them or now. What I hate about GH nowdays is when a newbie is brought on they the TPTB act like it's suddenly THEIR show spotlightandthat MAKE us likethemwrong
You're dead WRONG. GH was struggling in the ratings in '78. Monty took over and with Douglas Marland's superb writing, several storylines - mainly the Jeff/ Heather plot - did indeed put GH on the map. The show went to number one BEFORE Geary took over (and I mean took over!) the show the following year. Geary owes a tremnedous debt to this and previous storylines. The audience was ALREADY there for him. In '80 GH became comic book junk, the storylines were so silly. Emma Sams??!!
Um, I agree that Monty & Marland resurrected GH, but, it was not the Jeff/Heather plot, that did it! It was a combo of the Rick/Lesley/Monica/Alan & Luke/Laura Rape & Left handed boy/Frank Smith stories that catapulted GH into the atmosphere. Marland won an Emmy, due to the Alan jr. paternity reveal & that great patio scene between Lesley & Monica!
I worshipped gh under Doug Maryland, he brought us the quartermaines when they had teeth, made Laura and Scotty centrall but wisely interwoven with stalwarts like Lesley (her mom) and lee (his dad). But I fell in love with genie's fragile but manipulative and spoiled teen Laura, and also Mary obriens heather (also fragile, but manipulate and desperate. Marlad
The LSD s/l was very popular, but as I recall the L&L rape skyrocketed ratings. GM knew un-PC topics got people watching. Women in malls were screaming "rape me. Luke!"
Yes, started recording around 80. But I didn't always record whole scenes, just snippets I found interesting. I do have some great audio though and am transferring key stuff slowly but surely to cd (some audio tapes are able to play one or two more times then the quality is bad). I don't have much of this era till about a year later. (which is why I'm so ecstatic at the quality of these videos!)
Good observation ACETYGRA. The David Hamilton Murder gave the show a big ratings shot in the arm. It also landed Genie Francis on the cover of TV guide as Soaps Tragic Princess. It was one of the most controversial stories in soap history. And Genie gave an incredible performance as a 15 year old!
IF ONLY I could find the David Hamilton s/l--it's just about impossible to find! I always preferred the Heather/Jeff/Diana/Peter Taylor s/l to tired ass L&L
GaryB is correct. Luke and Laura did not make the show number one. That happened long before them. The story that shot GH to number one was the birth of AJ when Monica confessed that Rick was the father to Leslie as she delivered the child. Gloria Monty had started to work her magic on GH in 1977. By 78 they moved from number 6 to a solid number 2 with AMC as number 1. Gloria's pacing of the episodes and her remotes rocked the genre. Luke and Laura made the show a phenom. But they didnt save it.
I didnt realize Joe Kelly was trying to prove Heather guilty of driving Dianna crazy. I only thought he got involved with her after Dianna was murdered. Good to see these old scenes. But this actress is no Robin Mattson thats for sure!
Pt 2. I remember audibly groaning when they started showing heather at the asylum when they were got to reintroduce her and it wasn't Mary. Totally agree that robin had her charm, but mary, oh I loved Mary. She always reminded me of the voice of Lucy from peanuts. Lol
"It was MARY'S Heather that put GH on the map." Don't get me wrong, not trying to start an argument, both Mary and Robin as Heather Webber are really good in their own unique way. But let's be honest here, it was the summer of 1980, the Luke & Laura on the run storyline, that put GH on the map. Also, I think the fans will remember Robin Mattson's "Heather" more, do to the fact of the show's growing popularity during that year (1980), which at the time had over 10 million viewers.
@Wanderlust246 You don't need to worry about me "bursting a blood vessel" worry about your own ass. You must have a slow brain, replaying to a damn comment that's 11 years old.
Couldn't disagree more - I thought Mary O'Brien was great in this role, the best "Heather" of the three. As a rule, I enjoy Mattson, but she only plays things on one emotional register - bitch. You'd have to see much more of Mary's storyline and her work to fully appreciate her. It was MARY'S Heather that put GH on the map - even before tiresome Tony Geary. And, no, Mary was NOT fired - she asked to leave and was asked back before they hired the talented, but one-note Mattson.
Great episode
Thank You Steven Lars!
Not Diana drying her already completely dry hair with a towel. 😂

Love this role you are on tonight!! Thanks for posting!!
I really liked Brooke Bundy as nurse Diana Taylor. I remember some of the years she was on GH. 1977-1981 according to IMDb.
Do you remember her on The Brady Bunch several years before this? And then a few years after in the Nightmare on Elm Street movies?

Silly, but wow the soaps overall were so much more realistic back in the day.

Did Lucy Coe ever murder anyone?
I wish they'd bring Joe Kelly back! And Jeff, too- with two of his kids on the show, it would be nice to rebuild the Webber clan big time.
LOL Jeff was just back, but not played by Richard Dean Anderson.

I am a Fan of Richard Dean Anderson so like seeing is work on GH back in days.
i know, right? Anne, Joe, Jeff, Alice, Susan, Diana, Jeremy, and Heather were all up up in each other's schnizz for quite some time.
I love the sets, clothe, hairstyles. A retro soap opera might work...

The storyline that saved the show intially was David Hamilton sleeping with Laura in 78. That brought the show back into the top 4.
