Helen Gallagher was on fire! The writing was perfection. Ilene Kristen should have been nominated for an Emmy. Someone else said it here - you can see what Delia is thinking even when she doesn't have a line. I used to have a bit of animosity that Helen Gallagher won THREE Emmys for RH because I grew up watching and rooting for the NBC soaps. However, thanks to these clips and watching the show on SoapNet, I can certainly see why she won those Emmys. Anyone else think a RH reboot would be a great idea?
No, I don't think a RH reboot would work because the world has changed so much. The power of the show was in the fact they were first generation Irish immigrants in New York, negotiating all the cultural heritage that went with that to modern American life.
Frank Darmstadt I loved Kate Mulgrews Mary. When she left the show the replacement lacked her strong characteristics. Interestingly her replacement was Robert Goulets daughter,
@@DeepScreenAnalysis This! I was thinking more along the lines of actors being hired that can't hold a candle to the cast here, but you hit the nail on the head about the show as a whole. Although, I think GH mentioned recently that a (very-much alive) Maeve still sings "Johnny Boy" at Ryan's Bar and I'll settle for that 😊
Back around 2009 or so I lived in NYC and had an idea for a reboot that would have incorporated NYC as it was at that time. Pat would have just died of cancer brought on by his having wanted to be on the frontlines as a doctor on 9/11, and one of the grandchildren would find themselves being drawn to someone who worked for a real estate development company that was looking to bulldoze and gentrify the block, including Ryan’s. I never wrote it down and it flew out of my mind completely when I moved to LA; that’s all I remember.
Wow, ya go, Maeve. She laid the smack down on Delia. This was a milestone story. Helen Gallagher was on fire here as a real Mama Bear, protecting her cub.
"Go ahead, Delia, jump!" Quarantine Life has me feeling sooooo nostalgic, and I ended up here! THIS compilation is awesome! Ilene Kristen was perfect as Delia! And I also loved her as Roxie on "One Life to Live," even if she was often exploited by the writers for her camp factor (which was OK). And Helen Gallagher ... wow! I was 16 when this was on. My boyfriend was killed exactly a year before. I was dying and watching this show made me want to grow up and get out and live again. I know it sounds crazy but it's true. I'll always love this!
Delia was a classic case of a person drowning in her own misery. And in order to make herself feel better she took full advantage of all the Ryan's by using lies and manipulations in order to have a place in their lives and to feel as if she belonged. There are REAL people in the world who behave in this sick and twisted way. She was in desperate need of a therapist...
She did start seeing Dr. Pagano after this, I remember. And I feel like between that (and the recast to Randall Edwards from 1979-82) it did take some of the edge off this sort of frantic desperation.
If Catherine Hicks stayed as Faith, she would've added more to the core of that emotion when she confronted Delia. But Karen Morris was on FIRE!!! What a performance!
It was an absolute tour de force. All the actors were at the top of their game, and that, with the awesome writing, made this story arc absolutely enjoyable and an absolute milestone as they finally detached from her.
I watched some of the earliest episodes including the first one and it was wonderful to see how the various families were connected. Which built up to the drama of Delia and her ties to the family and her devious methods.
Can you imagine a 19 year old guy watching a daytime soap with his Mom and sister? I surely did and Delia was the reason why. Ilene Kristen brought Delia to life. Even when Ilene didn't have a line you could see Delia's messed up brain working an advantage. Actresses recieved Emmy's from Ryan's hope but Ilene Kristen surely should have.
It just doesn't feel right. Nothing against New Faith, it should have been Catherine Hicks' Faith playing these scenes. Miss her very much in these scenes
Holy crap! I remember when this episode first aired! I was four years old. The funny thing was the one way I remember Helen Gallagher as Maeve was her hugging someone and saying "OK, don't start".
