I'm a huge Beatle fan BUT Harrison did not invent the 7b9 chord. It's commonly used in Jazz. It's fine to say they were innovative in using it in a pop song in a pop band which makes it a bit progressive but he did NOT invent E7b9.

@@EmilyTienne I didn't just learn anything in this case. There are tons of videos that do present factual information, so I don't agree that UA-cam is not place for facts. What's actually surprising is that George claimed he invented a chord and THAT IS a fact and the maker of the video believed him.

Your are correct sir! Also used in 20th century classical music so the idea of dissonance was not new to modern music but it was and probably still is to pop music. The jazz guys had “big ears” as they say in their genre, and learned from many sources including classical music, and the Great American Songbook. Those guys, GAS were often immigrants who studied classical music and contributed greatly to movie soundtracks, ie, the Gershwin brothers, Cole Porter, and so forth. Their music never dies and Paul McCartney was a fan of Fed Astaire films with its marvelous soundtracks…

George's G#7flat9 chord that kicks off 'All I've Got to Do' is also an impressive chord. The E7flat9 chord in I Want to Tell You resurfaces in John's song, I Want You (She's So Heavy). Cheers, RNB

Although I'm a huge fan of George and the The Beatles as a whole, I don't think he can really claim to have "invented" the E7 flat 9 chord...I guess he may have been the first to use it mainstream popular western music...

The Beatles were a UNIT that wrote great songs, had great vocals, & each guy played what ever was needed to make the songs great. Playing faster DOESN'T mean better. Jimi Hendrix or Eddie Van Halen or John Bonham would not have made the Beatles any better. LOL

George started feedback in "I Feel Fine" and brought the Sitar into western music starting with (I think) "Norwegian Wood"

Wrong. That was John Lennon who did created the guitar feedback -- first by accident, and then he did it intentionally, and demanded that it be used on the recording (against the norms of recording practices). Lennon also wrote the "I feel Fine" guitar riff, along with the Day Tripper guitar riff as well -- both of which were different but somewhat glancingly influenced in style by Bobby Parker fills in the song "Watch Your Step".

Lacking a soundtrack excerpt to make points about George's Guitar technique - the drone is in the narration - not the Mystic Indian music.
