Thank you Yanis, you truly represent the real left. The others are still "seating on the fence" and they don't represent anybody but themselves in their position of privilege within the system. Greetings from Toronto.
This message is for Americans- Imagine waking up to the sound of foreign military forces marching through your neighborhood. You look out the window to see tanks and armed soldiers patrolling the streets, their presence instilling fear and uncertainty. As the days pass, you and your fellow Americans find yourselves living under the oppressive rule of the occupying forces. Your access to basic necessities such as water and fuel is restricted, making it increasingly challenging to carry on with your daily routines. The once vibrant and bustling city now feels subdued and tense, with the threat of violence looming over every interaction. You witness your friends and family members being subjected to unwarranted acts of aggression and intimidation by the occupying forces. Fear and anxiety permeate every aspect of your life, as you never know when you might become the next target of their brutality. Moreover, the occupying forces implement a system of stark inequality, denying Americans their fundamental rights. You see fellow citizens being treated as second-class individuals, facing segregation and discrimination based on arbitrary criteria. Basic freedoms that were once taken for granted are now stripped away, leaving you feeling marginalized and powerless. In this hypothetical scenario, the harsh reality of the occupation makes it impossible to live a normal life. The once vibrant American spirit is dampened by the oppressive presence of foreign forces and the stark realization that the rights and freedoms you once cherished are now a distant memory.
So much faith in governments has been lost through this debacle in Gaza that is is hard to see how it can ever be recovered. People are realising it is down to them if they want any justice and their hands are tied by the same governments.
Keep speaking about the subject, going to manifestations, follow accounts of groups like Amenesty International online, support financially or doing volunteer works, and talking to people online when they spread lies or hate to make them understand the truth. We have corrupt leaders but if they loose local support that will make them change their minds. In Canada we had Residencial Schools that created chaos and ethnic cleansing of Native children. We named that system INSTITUTIONALIZED RACISM
The smallest action one can take against war is to NOT voice approval of violence against any person or nation, like our friend Ursula. If it was at all difficult to keep your mouth shut, then you will have meaningfully worked towards peace. Assenting to violence will surely move us further from rather than closer to peace. Calling for peace is better still than remaining silent in war. The experts agree. Study after study has shown if you want war, you get it.
Thank you for your words of encouragement in this dark time Yanis. The majority (unfortunately) do not have the time, or inclination to gain a ballanced uncerstanding of world issues such as this. Such people will be easily polarised by media propaganda. We need more like you Yanis to help educate a wider portion of the population.
Yanis a brilliant mind, its time that consumer power divest from the framework of Corporations, Products, Services. Outline the Companies profiting, it has already started. Free Palestine🎉
Very good initiative, I have a suggestion to start with, that also makes geopolitical sense: Israel should emediately be excluded from the European song contest. I have honestly never understood how they could counted as a European state, no of course not under any circumstances. So: ISRAEL OUT OF THE EUROPEAN SONG CONTEST EMEDIATELY
Dear Yanis, I begins with a salute to you. I can feel the weight of the suggestions and to start with embargo in all forms follwed by all peace loving citizens of the earth combined together continues to express our displeasure until the Israeli government feels the weight of those lossless, will makes them to steps down to an (unbiased permanent settlement) between two communities. Since 1948 they are focused to achieve only one goal to decrease the Palestinian population by systematical genocide down to zero and their routines are still in progress beside all forms of human violations what is available on earth and they took that as granted with or without the influence of the west, shame. Relevant organisations must make sure that this time will not be a (temporary ceasefire as ususal) just to please (eye-wash) the outside world and to continue the same old atrosities behind the smoked screen supported and cover up by the mainstream medias as usual. If there's a will there's a way. Let us all look forward to a permanent solution as soon as possible...
Great. You're the Che of our era and the heir of Plato. And you are right countries like KS, Qatar, and India in their current governmental form are worse than many in the West.
Palestinians feel abandoned, especially by the Arab governements, which is not new. They have suffered a blow when some of these governments chose normalisation with the Hebrew state, discarding the very existence of the Palestinian people and their cause; vergogna, shame on you!
Perhaps a FAIR two-state solution for both parties so, neither of them would reject it and/or restart conflicts in the future ?? Make a One-Piece, fully connected country for each one of them, both keeping their ocean coasts and sharing the capital.
this has been going on since the early 1920's. it suited britain, after ww2 it suited usa. humanity has so far proved incapble of democracy, and every type of elite rule finds it convenient to label groups of people as 'sub-human,' to be used or killed. so hamas are 'terrorists' and the idf 'defenders of democracy.' palestine is unlucky. european jews decided they wanted to own it, and they had strong patrons who saw some profit in un- leashing their jewish clients. 'demonstrations' may do some good, but if you refuse to consider deeper factors, in the 'too hard' class, then the murder will go on as it has been doing since irgun told muslims to flee or die.
What can we do? We need to evolve and completely transcend ALL of these utterly failed, outdated narratives around world politics. Borders, Divisions, Separations have never worked and never will. It's time to outgrow the man-made concepts of countries and nations. i.e.... Apartheids. One World. One Humanity. One Family. Peace to All.
These all sounds great but its more thinking loudly than showing any possibility to do all these things. Who will impose arms embargo to Israel?? US??? the biggest military spender in the world? Who will impose sanctions in trade and cultural area?? The EU??? They are disgrace.
Friend Ursula? Wow. She is your friend but she clearly does not like/care for (whatever you want to choose) people with skin color other than her own. She has been clear about this more than once. Let her be...be what she is...but definitely not a human that represents any majority of other humankind.
A country made out of separate/disconnected pieces and embedded inside another state with waaay greater boom boom powet is NOT fair at all. We've seen how they use that power.
I don't understand why Gazans aren't pressing their leaders Hamas to release the hostages? I spoke to some Palestinians and they mentioned that Hamas are using the hostages to save themselves. It feels all around very selfish on both sides.
"How Israel Used Hamas " Just Google. Avner Cohen, a former Israeli religious affairs official, who worked in Gaza for over two decades, said. "Hamas to my great regret, is Israels Creation "
Not all Israelis have to pay the consequences. This message sounds suspiciously generally towards Jewish people in general, what jew doesn't have any connections to Israel? I won't say the word starting by anti because I don't want to fall on the easy repertoire of the right wing from Israeli and not Israel. But it is, what it is.. anti and what if follows
What can we do? How about getting Hamas to accept the reality that Jews are living in their ancestral homeland and to revoke Hamas' desire to destroy the Jewish State? (No, I'm not Jew by the way...)
If Hamas is blocking their way out of places where or how civilians are trying to escape? Be vocal about that... Speak out against it. Check out Mosab Hassan Yousef. He talks about Hamas and some of the tactics they use.
The intellectual Varoufakis as always tells half of the story. Solidarity with Palestinians is important, but not with Hamas who intentionally caused the response by Israel after extremely brutal/joyful attack, that tries to maximize human death as its leaders publicly proclaim to call international condemnation of Israel, refusing Israel to supply fuel to hospitals, etc, and as its one of the main ideologist Dr. Tareq Al-Suwaidan said "it is a religious war" and that "all Palestine should be Islamic state govern by sharia law".
Avner Cohen, a former Israeli religious affairs official, who worked in Gaza for over two decades, said. "Hamas to my great regret, is Israels Creation " Holocaust Scholar Raz Segal, An Israeli expert in modern Genocide, calls the assault on Gaza, a textbook case of, "Intent to commit Genocide " By Israel. AKA, ETHNIC CLEANSING!
Enormous Respect to Yanis for a being fine advocate of mankind
A true free thinker and humanist. My respects to you sir!

I am absolutely devastated. I don't know why because I am old enough to know the score

Amnesty International is not a good resource to use. They are wildly off base with their numbers and not so credible according to Norman Finklestein.
Sign the ceasefire petition on the house of common website
Can somebody tell Amnesty to make and sell t-shirts with human rights logo, trying to find a decent one in the UK!! and can't find anything!!
You speak my heart ♥

Excellent Yanis, I agree entirely and thank you for this succinct and lucid explanation!

You sre completely right. Blessings for your integrity and conviction.
They don’t want us to speak about it
The orders are on their way.
As a Persian i am very pleased a Greek takes a humaniterian position. Yet heartles Italians are scilent!!
Perhaps a FAIR two-state solution for both parties so, neither of them would reject it and/or restart conflicts in the future ??

I have boycotted everything I can including Google, Amazon, Audible and Oatley plus all the BDS recommendations.

Yes!! BDS. I also stopped consuming the brands that provide financiation to Israel's machine of death (KFC, McDonald's, Puma, Starbucks, etc).
Looking for the dimension where I can be against Zionism and militant Islam at the same time.

I agree dont trust india or saudi

Right, like Netanyahu. He's got 000s of political prisoners, including children. Israelis are saying he's out as soon as this war is over. So..
Exactly @@taniakol

It was stupid of hamas to go there on oct 7

All my comments (rational and backed by evidence) concerning Israel/Palestine have been blocked by UA-cam. So much for freedom of speech.
