    Thanks Yanis. I was really waiting for this and eventually it is you. I was waiting for someone to direct an imperative message or critique to Yuval Harari for his failure to look into the present situation of Gaza and Israel in more humane manner if not objectively. Thank you very much for this podcast. Liberty and rights of every community irrespective of their belief, roots and culture matters the most.

    I’m an Israeli Jew and I totally support what Yanis is telling to Harrari. Unfortunately little can be done by me to change the situation. Since the “political Zionism” won over people like Martin Buber, Israel is on the slippery slope to become an ugly ethno-theocratic regime. And the real problem is that the world capitalism was and is happy about how Zionism in Israel has evolved. Yet the capitalists seem to become less happy about what Zionism is doing in the recent days and months, and this fact may signal a potential for change.

    • @willhelpforfree
      @willhelpforfree Рік тому

      I also agree with Yanis' point of view, but his allegations against Yuval Noah Harari are preposterous. Harari is the last person who would encourage the enslavement of any population. He is a secular, liberal humanist and a human rights advocate, and this is obvious to anyone who has read his work.

    • @quent94181
      @quent94181 Рік тому +2

      @@willhelpforfree I see your point. However, we, the Israelis living in Israel whatever point of view we adhere to, unless we actively fight the Israeli occupation, are also complicit in it. And Harrari doesn’t fight it actively. I’m not sure why he doesn’t. However, had he done so, he would be defined as a traitor by the vast majority of the Israeli public and therefore would not be able to lead the ongoing protest movement as he currently does. The situation is very challenging. We must admit that the fascist right is very strong virtually all over the world.

    What insinuation? I read the article and found nothing there that rometely resembles support for enslaving anyone. Furthermore, anyone familiar with Yuval Noah Harrari's work will tell you that he is an advocate of rights for Palestenians.

    Just my own observations: As a Jewish Israeli I live side by side with all sectors of Israeli society; Muslim Palestinian Arabs, Christian Palestinian Arabs, non-religious Palestinian Arabs, Druze , Circassianת Baha'i, Orthodox Jews, Orthodox Greeks, and a few I don't even know about yet. We all drive on the same roads, shop at the same supermarkets, breath the same air and drink the same water. From my nearly 50 years of living in israel I see that the Palestinian people highly value family, community, hard work and education. There are small groups of violence prone fanatics in all sectors of any society, but they do not represent the day to day lives of hardworking and law abiding citizens in any country.

      A vida cotidiana de trabalhadores honestos é cumpridores da lei... será isso uma realidade ou ideologia espontânea das massas dominadas por lideranças interessadas em manter seus privilégios e poder?
      Seja como for, o mundo que aí está não permite a maioria silenciosa continuar satisfeita com suas virtudes enquanto o mundo pega fogo.
      Manter e sustentar, com seu duro trabalho e obediente cumprimento da leis, e o combustível que sustenta a religião do capitalismo.

    This shows where these hypocrites are standing. Not that this is something new. Mr Harari is like the second line of defense. When the fascists loose face, the more soft faces are sent to the front. Like an army in the war.

    Back up Yanis. How EXACTLY did Yuval "insinuate" that the Palestinians are more malleable to slavery"? I'm afraid what has actually happened is you’re making what's called a misrepresentation. You are misrepresenting what Yuval said. When in fact he made no such statement.

    Mr. Varoufakis, reading Harari's article it seems to me he was making a statement like "Black Lives Matter!" not against, not in contrast to the huge but separate issue (the crimes and injustices against the Arab people), but instead only focused, limited to the specific issue he was addressing (the law reforms and the protests)

    • @ceeemm1901
      @ceeemm1901 Рік тому +3

      Yeah, I read the Guardian article and it had nothing directed at the Palestinean conflict. It was only to do with the democracy problem facing the Israelis. So I don't get Yannnis using the long bow connection here. He hasn't really clarified, just letting it hang in the air.

    • @fotiostriantas4673

      @@ceeemm1901Harari at his articles forgets completely the Arab Israelis that live at the outskirts of law and society. So according to Harari till now everything was fine? This is exactly the point Varoufakis is talking about that yes the article is to the point but just now Harari found out the problem when there was a big portion of the population registered as Israelis but being 2nd category citizens.
