One problem with my 2023 Corolla hybrid is the fancy headlights. In the center area directly in front of you are two shadows that stick down into the lit part. I truly wish they offered the SE in hybrid when I bought my 2021 corolla, I still get great gas mileage but the hybrid would have helped saved a little more at the pump
The Corolla Hybrid - I was worried about it with what I "suspected" was at some point the Corolla replacement that never was - morphed and was made into the NEW PRIUS, which looks exactly like that - making the Corolla Hybrid kind of the "heritage model" in contrast. BUT there is a huge price difference - with the new Prius being, well they said to secure $50,000 in monies one way or the other and you should be able to get into one taxes and all baring severe dealer mark ups. That would be AWD here and pretty deluxe contenting as they said 90% will be that. However, suddenly the old Corolla hybrid that now offers AWD is looking not that bad of an option as you can actually still make the argument that I am not spending and extra $20,000 to save $6000 on fuel "maybe, if I drive and have it long enough to get paid back for those upfront costs. It makes for a tempting package.
Ironic that this car is not that good on the highway, since many buyers will buy this car for long trips, hoping for efficiency and good driveability and decent power on the highway. Myself included. So the search continues for an affordable, reliable, high MPG car that drives well on highways...
I don't understand why rear vents are not even a option when they are on the Corolla Cross and also available in Europe. No wonder people move to crossovers when they cheap out this much on their cars. Same applies to many other brands.
@@baronvonjo1929 There's a youtube channel called Krowicki. He's a Toyota employee. Go there and comment on one of his videos and ask the same question, he will confirm my statement.

You say its loud.. compared to what? Of course it is, compared to 80% of the tests you do for this channel. Is it louder than my 2006 Corolla, the last gen Corolla, a Civic?...
If they'd make a quiet trim of this car, I'd gladly pay for the extra sound-deadening to have an enjoyable, efficient ride. As it is, I'd probably just skip this (and the new Prius) and go for a hybrid Camry.
I would take the Corolla over the Prius but I might take the Bolt over either with the tax credit! But if the Prius qualifies for the tax credit, then it would be the Prius Prime all the way.
I do not believe the Prius Prime gets you a Tax Credit. Remember this though....Whatever you may save on the tax credit with the Bolt... ...You will end up using up (and probably more) on repairs for the Bolt. I will never purchase a Chevy ever again. At least with Toyota vehicles you get reliability and longevity.
@@OldDood If it's a reliable EV with tax credit, is what you want then it would be a Nissan Leaf. And I would take it over both, unless the Prius Prime adds more range and finally gets on the tax credit list. Every year everyone talks about how boring most Toyotas are. And every year they mention reliability after the fact like it’s some secondary requirement. Just another reason to buy this and keep it for years while laughing at the other cars that fall apart in 1/4 of the time.
17" wheels would be perfect for many Corollas. 18" wheels on America's typical lousy streets, riddled with potholes, and you're courting bent and dented rims!

Last May I helped my daughter purchase a car. She was going to get a USED car but I warned her that used cars were way over priced at that time. So we ordered an LE Corolla with NO Packages on it. It came out to be $22K and change for a new 2022 FWD LE Corolla. We only had to wait one month for it too. Ordering a Hybrid of any model you can wait up to a year at least. We have to have a higher ground clearance for our area. We get 4-5 feet of snow every winter and live on a private road that we have to plow and maintain ourselves. The Corolla is too small for us. We had a Camry but it was too low to the ground. We looked at a Venza (and LOVED it) and the Rav. Our insurance would have gone up by $1K per year for the Venza and $700 for the RAV4. We opted for the Outback which is $300 more per year. The Outback and the Forester achieved the highest IIHS safety Plus rating for its class. The Corolla also has this safety rating. I bought a 78 Corolla in 83. It had 70K miles on it, (it was my grandma’s commuter car). It became my college car. It was a bare bones. 4cyl, 4spd manual, vinyl seats and flooring, AM radio. After college I had student loans so I kept driving my 2dr Corolla. After my loans were paid off I started saving money for a down payment for my first house. After buying my house, I simply wanted to see how long that Corolla would last. It finally dropped dead at a Whopping 488K miles in 02, which is when I bought my Camry. We drove that until 21 and bought our Outback for my wife’s birthday. We bought a Forester Touring for me last year.
Nice. Simple and practical always wins the race. If you look at cars as tools, it makes it easier to understand why cars like the ones you mentioned are so appealing.
When I went to the lot, they were marked up 10s of thousands of dollars. No longer an affordable car. I'll stick with private sell, because I saw this greedy phenomenon on many other car lots like Honda, Lexus and others. Stay away from car lots and have cash if possible. All 3 of my vehicles I have had great luck with for years buying less than 50% retail value.

Heat in Florida is horrid already and with breathing issues is not fun. Car in shop again. But I will say the dealership is helping and thus time I do have a loaner
Just want my car to be trust worthy.
I didn’t like the leg room in the front passenger. There’s enough room, but it feels like my feet are planted against the firewall.
Question. I read where the AWD in not a traditional AWD. Does this mean that the tires can be different tread thickness? So all four tires don't need to be changed if one goes bad? Thanks
Excellent daily driver Good review
Some companies only offer hybrid on high end car not a LE.
Ironic that this car is not that good on the highway, since many buyers will buy this car for long trips, hoping for efficiency and good driveability and decent power on the highway. Myself included. So the search continues for an affordable, reliable, high MPG car that drives well on highways...
Matt is such a good guy
is it as low (hard to get into) as the Prius?
I don't understand why rear vents are not even a option when they are on the Corolla Cross and also available in Europe. No wonder people move to crossovers when they cheap out this much on their cars. Same applies to many other brands.
Corolla front seats have under seat vents that shuttle air from the front to the back. No need for formal rear vents, especially in a smaller car.
@@braetonwilson4296 I can't find anything online on the Toyota website or elsewhere about rear vents under the seats.
@@baronvonjo1929 There's a youtube channel called Krowicki. He's a Toyota employee. Go there and comment on one of his videos and ask the same question, he will confirm my statement.
I rented a Corolla non-hybrid last week. When inspecting its interior, I definitely saw that it had air vents under both front seats to direct air to the rear.
@@keithboyette8062 Okay if I ever get the chance I need to see lol
You say its loud.. compared to what? Of course it is, compared to 80% of the tests you do for this channel. Is it louder than my 2006 Corolla, the last gen Corolla, a Civic?...
My mom had a Corolla for some time. I personally think it's a safer and more comfortable car than a Camry.
Look is very subjects and I think Corolla looks one of the best in class.
İn Turkey 65.000$ minimum
How does your SE have a sun roof???
If they'd make a quiet trim of this car, I'd gladly pay for the extra sound-deadening to have an enjoyable, efficient ride.
As it is, I'd probably just skip this (and the new Prius) and go for a hybrid Camry.
If only this could be a wagon, it would be the perfect car.
I think it will be Prius's main competitor cause of the price.
Did toyota do something to deter catalytic convertor theft?
Good looking --so is the Corolla!
I am glad I avoided as a rental car- who wants to put up with road noise.
will it sell in America?
Yes
more buttons just means more stuff to brake down and more expensive to fix. just saying
But again I would definitely take the Corolla Hybrid over the Prius and Prius Prime as of this time. But I'm cheap...
My Bolt is great! Love it!
The Prius gets better mileage, looks better, is quieter I am leaning that direction.
Every year everyone talks about how boring most Toyotas are. And every year they mention reliability after the fact like it’s some secondary requirement. Just another reason to buy this and keep it for years while laughing at the other cars that fall apart in 1/4 of the time.
Definitely the new 2023 prius AWD i'd go for.
17" wheels would be perfect for many Corollas. 18" wheels on America's typical lousy streets, riddled with potholes, and you're courting bent and dented rims!
Can't really judge it off this review. Driving impressions would have been better if weren't doing this review and such bad weather.
It’s now like what Mitsubishi was 15 years ago
Mario sounds @ 3:41
Imagine paying $30,000 for an Econobox…
What other brand new vehicle are you going to get at that price that has AWD, great MPG and bulletproof reliability?
If you can get past the fact that it's "just a Corolla", it's the best value the market has to offer BY FAR
@@alext2566 Comment went right over your head, buddy. 5 years ago you could buy a Corolla for $18-24k fully optioned out. Now a base is $24k and fully optioned is over $32. The fact that you didn’t see the problem with that shows what’s wrong with our education system, culture, and as a result our economy.
Maverick Hybrid is lower priced almost as good MPG and way manlier. The money you save on the base model XL will make up for the slightly lower MPG. Not to mention way more practical as you can do things in a Maverick that you could never do in the Corolla.
Ford stopped taking orders for 2023 Mavericks. Any Mavericks you find in a dealer lot has a huge markup over MSRP. Maverick is not a realistic option.
Maverick is also a piece of shit Ford with its notoriously horrendous build quality and the already laundry list of recalls and transmission failures.
It's a Ford, it will fall apart, it's already rusty from manufacturer.
$38K for AWD not thanks!
Wait until how dealerships bitch on their customers. Terrible experience.
Looks sort of odd & off-putting. New 2023 Prius looks much better.
Why would anyone get Prius?
Make a hatchback Toyota FFS.
The upcoming civic hybrid makes this irrelevant
What’s the fuel economy on the Civic hybrid?
@@XXtheJUMPoffXX I think it’ll be high 40s low 50s

NEITHER. NO SPARE TIRE
I really want to hammer Toyota!!!! Put 2.0 liter engine. Crank it up to 250hp with AWD STANDARD!!! DAMN IT TOYOTA!!!
I much prefer the Korean approach; a small turbo engine paired with a hybrid system. At least it's got a few balls.
And a few engine fires and electrical failures
That will not last.
Koreans (South) they are scammers. Had KIA EV before, battery failed at 15k miles, got scammed for factory warranty.
AWD in a car that doesn’t even have any power to put down. People are dumb.
I just bought a 2023 Toyota Corolla LE hybrid several weeks ago (June of 2023). On the first tank of gas I babied it for break in and got over 60 mpg. 😅. My last five years I had been driving the Toyota Avalon. For my first 600 miles I have been very impressed with this car. The seating is very comfortable and it handles much better than I expected. I bought the Corolla for its efficiency and reliability and I’m a happy owner.

Blind Spot Monitoring should be standard across the entire Toyota line, you shouldn't have to pay extra for safety.
Last May I helped my daughter purchase a car.
She was going to get a USED car but I warned her that used cars were way over priced at that time.
(As we ALL remember)
So I chipped in some money and simply told her it is cheaper to purchase a NEW car then a USED car.
I also said we need to get her a Toyota Corolla. So we ordered an LE Corolla with NO Packages on it.
It came out to be $22K and change for a new 2022 FWD LE Corolla.
We only had to wait one month for it too.
Ordering a Hybrid of any model you can wait up to a year at least.
She loves the car and of course the Hybrid Corolla would get better over all gas mileage however, the gas-only Corolla gets 38mpg over all.
That is still very good.
No really i was seeing used corollas from 2020-2023 asking anywhere from 20-25k USED with OVER 40k miles and im seeing brand new 2023 corolla with 0 miles from 21-22k and you know you’ll have peace of mind knowing you have warranty and nothing to worry about for minimum 7 years only regular maintenance of course which is also relatively inexpensive compared to other brands/cars

@@faultless18 Mid Michigan.
Well I have never forgotten about the Corolla since it was one of the two vehicles I learned to drive on. Mom's 3 speed automatic 1984 4 door Corolla sedan and Dad's 1977 Dodge full-time 4wd 4 speed manual Power Wagon Snow-Commander. With snow tires the Corolla was a beast in the snow ! I even had it up to 110 mph on a trip to the Finger Lakes once, or at least that's what the speedometer was showing. If I could have one of them new now between the Power Wagon and the Corolla I'd take the Corolla because it never broke down were as the Dodge was a Chrysler product and broke down on a regular basis.
I take any day a plain Corolla that a fully loaded elantra Toyotas last forever

Toyota dropped the multi link rear suspension from the 2023 Corolla but kept it in the 2023 Corolla Hybrid. So don't get the non hybrid is you want a smoothe ride:(
We have to have a higher ground clearance for our area.
I’d wait for a Maverick Hybrid. 8.6” ground clearance. Base model is cheaper than the corolla.
How about the corolla cross? Still was too low?

I wish you would have shown video of driving it on the snow. You know, so we can see how handles the snow.
The rav4 for snowy weather utility and space ground clearance awd and hybrid system is way to go be smart
For young environmental people with good jobs and college degrees; the choice between the $24K Hybrid Toyota Corolla, $28K AWD Toyota Prius, and $31K Hybrid Honda Accord/Toyota Camry can be a tough one. Please make a video directly comparing these vehicles. (Preferably Corolla vs Prius and Hybrid Accord vs Camry)
This was a weird comment… 😅 young environmental people… who are these government static archetypes? Do they also plan on having 2.5 kids?

But at the end of the day, they are my friends that increase my quality of life. so if a video like that were to exist and it helps them out in a small way; that would be nice. Of course, the manual transmission Toyota GR Corolla, Honda Civic Type R, Hyundai Elantra N, Ford Mustang GT, Mazda Miata, Subaru BRZ/Toyota GR 86, Honda Civic Si/Acura Integra, and Subaru WRX are superior cars; but not everyone in my life that i care about will share my passion.
I'm a Boomer and have always been environmentally conscientious and have always purchased 4 cylinder cars that get great mpg. For me I will be considering Camry and Accord hybrids next time around. Prius and Carolla are just a little too small for me. I may consider a Venza or a RAV4 hybrid as well.
