In this video we will show how to use the minipro TL866CS eeprom programmer.
Here we have the box for the eeprom programmer and all of its contents along with two adapters.
In the box, you will receive a mini cd, with programming software, a USB cable to connect the programmer to your computer, nine blank eeproms, the programmer, and two adapters.
This is how to connect the USB cable to the programmer.
The other end here, connect to the USB port on your computer.
Start by flipping up the lever, then place your adapter into the slots, on the top of the programmer.
Be sure to align pin 1 as shown in the diagram on the programmer.
Once the adapter is in place push the lever down to securely lock it.
Push down on the top of the adapter to open the pin terminals.
Correctly align pin one on the eeprom according to the diagram on the programmer. Once the eeprom is aligned, use the tweezers to push down on the top of the eeprom to hold it in place, and then release the top of the adapter to create the best connection.
Open the programming software.
Choose the device to program to.
Load the file to be programmed.
Click on the programming button.
Click Program.
Programming should begin immediately.
If you receive this error, go back and reseat the eeprom in the adapter and then try again. If you receive the error 5 times, it means there could be something wrong with the actual eeprom, and you should try a different eeprom.
The yellow light on the programmer, will light up when programming.
Programming time can vary depending on the file size.
You may also receive an error halfway through the programming. At that point, that means there is something wrong with the chip and you should try a different eeprom.
Next, we will show how to read data from the eeprom, and save it to burn to a new chip.
If the chip is damaged or corrupt, you will not be able to read the original data.
Select the device you are reading from.
Click the Read from Chip button.
Click Read.
After the read is successful, click Cancel.
Click Save.
Choose a location to save the data.
Click OK, after a successful save.

Cool, thanks for sharing. I'm just starting to get into this kind of thing for small DIY projects like LED blink and fade controll. Gotta start some where. You use these to fix televisions 'eh? Would that be mainly new LCD and the like versions, or were there a use for them on CRT type models? Are they flashed to allow a few types of main boards controll a lot of screen types -> save on production cost? Or what is the function of the chip in your line of work? Always fun to pick up some new insight from or admiration for, a tradesman doing his job. Whole lot you would never guess burried in the details of a guys day to day. Anyhow thanks

I am trying to program a bios chip on an acer laptop. So far I have been unable to get the programmer to connect I have tried using the ribbon cable and clothespin clip but it isn't working at all. It isn't easy for me to look at the legs of the chip and at the same time also see if the clip is positioned correctly. How do a locate teh clip onto the bios accurately assuming that it is my error and not the hardware that is at fault. I want to be able to rule out user error as the cause before I send it back. I don't have a lot of confidence in buying products of this type from china but I don't know of an alternative. Plus the materials that the programmer are made of are flimsy at best the quality is pretty low and that alone has me wondering if it isn't a dud. I can't count how many times I have bought electronics from china that were delivered in a non working state but looked fine and showed no physical damage.

You need the Hex file or you create a Hex file (or Bin File ) to programme a chip.... You can also download the hex file for a certain programme..

1. If your Chip is Good or burnout?
2. Check your programme, Is it complete? or making or burning the exact file on exact chip?

I thought that the 27 series of chips were program-once chips? If it has a quartz window, you may need to expose it to ultraviolet light in order to erase it before trying to reprogram it. Remember that this will destroy the contents so read and save those contents if the data is important to you.

That's literally what it does. It reads from, writes to and tests most RAMs, (E)EPROMs and microcontroller chips, and it also tests many logic chips. I've only found a few older devices which it won't read or test (and that may be because they're listed under a different number).

Is it possible to program an IC while it's in-circuit?
It will program microcontrollers in-circuit if you get the A version of this programmer instead of the CS version. It's a bit more expensive but has an ICSP (In Circuit Serial Programming) port added. This is intended for programming microcontrollers but it might work for serially accessed EEPROMs too. I don't know because I've never tried it.

Is there a way to edit the file in the program or is a new program needed?
The only way to edit the file inside the MiniPro software is by typing hexadecimal numbers over the top of whatever is already displayed. If you need to do more than trivial number substitutions, you'll need something else.

Yes. Both DIP and PLCC44 versions are supported by the software.

I have the A version of this and the answer is yes. You can program the DIP28 version directly or the PLCC32 version using an adaptor.

Usually, the IC has the number printed on it.

I have one of these and the software version I have only lists Dallas chips starting with ds12. The software may be updated by now, but I've never needed to update it for any of the chips I've used.

Building it yourself would be as expensive or more expensive than buying one, and then you'd need to be able to program it too since it uses a microcontroller to do most of the work.
Does it support 8051 microcontroller
I have one of these programmers and that number isn't in the list of programmable devices, although it's possible that it's listed as a different number, or the software may have been updated recently.

The most likely explanation is that the EEPROM is broken. If this is the case, the only solutions are too expensive and complicated to bother with.

It can do this, so long as you already have the EPROM with the source data, or a HEX or BIN file which someone has created with the data in it.
