Most new chinese motherboard come with Winbond 25Q128JVSQ. What program do you use to flash it, because even CH341A 1.40 does not have that bios model listed.
You skipped one step, before starting to work with AsProgrammer, need to install CH341A drivers on PC, where u configuring new bios. Thanks for your vid, very helpful!
I have taken the necessary precautions with regards to static etc. But on three separate occasions have blown my motherboard when trying to flash my bios using ch341a?
Hi, I have a question. Maxsun b450m challenger is supports Ryzen 7 1700 but , in product page it says it requires different bios for that . But in the official website Ryzen 1000-5000 series requires *B1* bios . I don't if it has the latest bios then I put a Ryzen 7 1700 is that going to work.
Take screenshots of the conversation with the seller and if the motherboard doesn't work with R7 1700 - demand compensation or return the motherboard. I cannot guarantee you anything, it's not me who sells the motherboard and it's not me who writes the description page. 😃
9:13 Power off the power supply if you have connected it to the motherboard - If you have the BIOS chip clamped onto the CH341A, Do you remove the chip by clicking "Eject"? 9:52 - 9:54 I could not understand what you were saying? Maybe comment reply to mentioned what you said. BTW Informative video - Thanks!
9:13 If you have an option to "Safely eject" CH341A - you can do that, but in general, it's safe to just unplug it. 9:52 I just said, that there are some more features in the AsProgrammer application, but they go above the minimal usage guide.

Nice video, thank you. I noticed that is some videos referring to some laptops (eg mine HP Elitebook 840-G6) it shows the Bios chip having to be removed from the motherboard and I didn't really understand why - has that to do with powering the motherboard or not during reading/writing? Could there be some other reason? Thanks again.

Hi!! I have a Sager NP9870 (Clevo P80DM-G). When I bought it, years ago, it came with just one GTX 980M. So now I bought another GTX 980M in order to make them SLI. I asked for them to send it with 1617 ID but they sent me with 13D7 ID. So I couldn’t flash it right with the vbios from the older one using Nvflash. I forced with the Nvflash mismatch version and the bios chip got really messed up. So I bought spares from the same chip (MX25L2006EZNI - 12G) and spare one from the older plate (25Q20BT) and ended up dessoldering the chip from the new one and putting a 25Q20BT in the place (with the vbios from the older one flashed inside using CH341A SPI flasher). When the new 980M arrived, the notebook didn’t even started if I put it in the master slot. Now with this modification, it goes to the windows all right but I don’t get image (not even through HDMI). So the idea here is to have both cards with the same vbios and ID in order to make them SLI. The notebook bios recognize both cards but the windows just the older one (with the 1617 ID). What can I do to make this work as SLI? I have my notebook with windows 10, both cards (the 1617 one is already inside of course), SLI cable, both heatsinks and even that cooper plate that was hard to find (I have the two necessary units). I have the CH341A SPI flasher and adapters to use the right voltage. And I have a couple units from both chips (MX25L2006EZNI - 12G and 25Q20BT. The 25Q20BT is so much easier to solder and it is the same model that the older plate uses. And I tried a lot of the drivers version from Nvidia and nothing, even cleaning with DDU. Would you help me to make it work? Appreciate it and thanks in advance. I really hope you can guide me to get there and I don’t think I’m that far away!!
@@Miyconst I tried to find information on how to make the new one have the same ID from the older one so the drivers and G sync work all right eventually. No success so far.
I looked up my Bios chip for "max ratings" and it says 4.7V Peak only and Reg V way lower SO, the little programmer outputs all 5V unless you mod it down to 3V and the specs for it says it can do that so i will me doing mod as old bios chips only meant to get 3.3v on its lines and you can install a switch to toggle from 3.3 to 5 as well. Max rating are VERY critical as i once accidentally touched the 19V pin to the LDV pin and it sent 19V into that line of the BQ chip and then the the chip only pulsed voltage and nothing worked. Looked up the max rating for that pin and it was only 7V, so you can see "guessing" that 5V wont hurt a 3.3V bios chip MAYBE you get away with it or not, too risky. Volts is pressure so even if the signal lines wont have any amps on it, they tell you what pressure it can stand too and exceed that and you compromise the chip.
Using UEFITool open the capsule file just as a binary BIOS file, then in the top contextual menu there is a Capsule section, select there "Extract BIOS" or something like that, I don't remember the exact name. It will save you the BIOS itself, without the extra capsule info.
@@Miyconst for me this is the only difficult part of extracting everything else is good to go but hopefully I’ll be able to unbrick my laptop finally !!!
Thank you for the video first of all. Since I see likes to post, I'll go ahead and ask: I'm using a NeoProgrammer v2.2.0.10 but so far when I want to open the repaired BIOS Image that someone has done for me, that has access to LBE++ BIOS Extractor (dealing with an HP BIOS here), I get the error message File not open, press ok to ignore & risk data corruption or abort to kill the program. Any ideas why that happens? What going wrong? When I press ok, the cursor on the laptop I'm using (since mine is well the patient not doing so well) just does an infinite loading circle.
Good tutorial However, to clear CMOS you just use the jumper as indicated on the motherboard OR you remove the battery but not BOTH. The program FLASHROM can be used from the command line, it does use CH341A as an option Good luck

i watched another guide video about flashing bios with the ch341a and in the case of a soldered chip that requires the ch341a to clamp on the chip directly he said that we should remove all power connectors off the motherboard also remove the cmos battery , he said no electricity should run through the motherboard during the flashing
That's the ideal condition, but since the BIOS chip soldered on the motherboard is attached to another components, your programmer's power might be not enough to read-write the chip. Thus the extra PSU power might be required.

You don't have to extract "bin" as it's just a file name. You need a binary BIOS file, that's it. If your programmer fails to write with a timeout, it will fail with any file, you have to figure out why that doesn't work. Feel free to bring or ship me the motherboard if you would need my services.

Most new chinese motherboard come with Winbond 25Q128JVSQ. What program do you use to flash it, because even CH341A 1.40 does not have that bios model listed.
As far as I know it's compatible with the Winbond W25Q128BV, at least I always select this option from the pop up window and it works.
You skipped one step, before starting to work with AsProgrammer, need to install CH341A drivers on PC, where u configuring new bios.

thank you very much, I admire your work you know a lot about computers, I was able to recover the bios of my motherboard thanks to you!
Each motherboard has its own BIOS with a list of supported CPUs. If the seller says that you need another BIOS for R7 1700 then most likely it's true.
@@Miyconst seller said latest bios supports Ryzen 7 1700 . But the product description that need different bios. Can I buy it
Take screenshots of the conversation with the seller and if the motherboard doesn't work with R7 1700 - demand compensation or return the motherboard. I cannot guarantee you anything, it's not me who sells the motherboard and it's not me who writes the description page. 😃
Mr Miyconst thank you for saving my ass again with this guide. I had a little trouble as usual but I did it!
Good job figuring things out!
Hi there, what is the difference between 24x and 25x on CH341A programmer? thnx
@miyconst I bricked a machinist rs9 and i bought this programmer. i have win10 in test mode and install drivers and programmer is recognized as interface USB-EPP/I2C... CH341A and its working. When i try to attach clip to bios , windows play the sound of usb disconnect and the usb key (attached to super speed usb port) tell me error 45 (actually the hardware is not connected to the pc...) When connect the usb dongle to the bios in the motherboard i see FF with a bright FF
Can CH341A write the bios on the following chip 'Winbond 25X/Q Series'??
Yes, as far as I know.
I am going to try flash my z170 pro gaming bios chip tomorrow. Using your tutorial hope the programmer i get is not faulty.
Good luck with the project!
Managed to save my board ,thanks.
That's exactly because of the motherboard's layout and risk of burning some components when power goes from the chip to the motherboard.
@@Miyconst Sorry just to be clear do you know whether on specifically an HP Elitebook 840-G6 it must be removed? A big job for me (and first time) and I'd have to buy a hot air blower etc. Any way around removing it? Sorry if I misunderstood.

Nope. It works as is.

I am sorry to disappoint, but I can't be of any help here. These notebook Nvidia GPUs are complete miseries to me.
@@Miyconst I tried to find information on how to make the new one have the same ID from the older one so the drivers and G sync work all right eventually. No success so far.

Thanks man!!!!! Im only here to watch how to program but also great video! Too useful for those that bricked his bios (srry for my English)
These instructions are perfect. Thank you so much.
Thank You for the awesome tutorial! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
What about programming using the SPI header on the motherboard, can you talk about that?
If your motherboard has a header for programming the BIOS chip - you can use it, but not many boards have it.
@Miyconst but do you connect PSU in that case?
Another person who used SPI header told me to remove CMOS , disconnect PSU and power drain the PC
The less power the better but sometimes it's required to connect a PSU.

Could you go In more depth about the bios capsule and how to open the with The uefi tool

I have corrupted my laptop bios because of this video. You will have to send me a new one. Lol. Thanks a lot.

However, to clear CMOS you just use the jumper as indicated on the motherboard OR you remove the battery but not BOTH.
The program FLASHROM can be used from the command line, it does use CH341A as an option

I'm a bit confused? Would I be able to just disconnect power cord to pc, and press the power button multiple times to get all the juice out to then be able to clip the bios programmer on?
Without the need of disconnecting the cpu?
Yes, you don't have to disconnect the CPU while flashing the BIOS.
what about the 5v into the chips? motherboard chips normally run at 1.8 max 2v usually? will probably burn the bios at 5v
Good point. The Chinese and most Intel boards use 3.3V BIOS chips, so 5V is not a big threat. For AMD boards it's a direct fry threat, so better to buy an upgraded version of CH341A that has voltage switch.

Can you remove or disable computrace using this method?
i watched another guide video about flashing bios with the ch341a and in the case of a soldered chip that requires the ch341a to clamp on the chip directly he said that we should remove all power connectors off the motherboard also remove the cmos battery , he said no electricity should run through the motherboard during the flashing

@@kansax8253 The .rom or .bin file extension plays no role, it's just a name, as long as you have a binary file you can flash it.
hola. intente todo y no me reconoce el chip. ademas , al conectar el programador pone el display FF y hace un pitido(ruido) muy fuerte. que podria ser?
placa huananzhi x79 2.49, v3.1
I had problems loading bios using mi899 before and I wrote a new bios with ch341a without any problems. After 2 months, when I wanted to change the bios again (Huananzhi x99 f8)It does not accept it. Asprogrammer recognizes the chip correctly and can read it, but I cannot unlock it or write any BIOS. What should I do? Where am I making a mistake (I can read the chip, but there is non-standard data in it)
Can you also verify the read data? If no - the programmer is not attached correctly or the BIOS chip is damaged.
@@Miyconst Now I did it again with asprogrammer (unlock-erase-program-verify), I'm waiting for it to finish, if the problem still persists, I will verify the read data.
@@Miyconst I'm getting a verification error, I think my chip is dead. Now that I have experienced this, I will go and order chips. Your videos are very useful, thank you for your help, have a good day
It could be that your CH341a malfunctions as well, but more likely the chip is kaput.
