Hi everybody. Welcome to the Test Track. My name is Bill McKim, I'm up here in the control center and in just a couple of minutes you're gonna be out there on that track. But first, let's, ah, put together your test schedule. These are the same kinds of tests that are run at, ah, GM test facilities all over the world. Let's put up the, ah, 26-8 grade
I remember when I rode Test Track when I was little back in 2004. When the car came to the barrier test, I shut my eyes in fear thinking that the car was actually going to crash into the barrier. But later I opened them, and found out it was just a trick, which made me love the ride even more.
Went on this at 9 years old on opening year 1999 and it was hands down the single most epic experience ever back then. Nothing could top my Florida holiday in 99 since then..
Do more epcot attractions!! -Mission Space -Spaceship Earth -Maelstrom/Frozen Ever After -Nemo and Friends -Honey I Shrunk The Audience and my favorite... Soarin!!
@brm 0220 Mission: SPACE is one of the best rides in Epcot! I didn’t think that Horizons even fitednin Epcot, I was more hooked with the Wonders Of Life & Journey Into Immaginaruon pavilions, I think mission space is a really great ride because you get to ACTUALLY be in space!
I love this attraction when I visited Epcot in 2017. Being able to create you own vehicle be it for reducing carbon footprint or to be Fast and Furious (Unlike some other attraction not in Disney), it still captures what Test Track aims to do while being a fun ride for all to enjoy. I do think that The Smiler from Alton Towers would make a great episode to cover, a fun attraction with a dark moment that stains it's legacy.
I remember riding the original ride, and right before running through the door to the outside, seeing a car to the left crashing into a barrier. Really awesome effect to add to the fear.
When i heard the magical racing tour theme i JUMPED!!! it’s all i was thinking about for the duration of the video. a few of your videos have made me think of it. “man... i need to get my hands on that game again.” and then there it was. hats off to you, TPH! a great reference. much, MUCH appreciated.
Absolutely loved this, enjoyed making our own vehicle.... Didn't think it was going to be as fast and as good as it actually was. Definitely one of the best things at Epcot
I love the Old Test Track. My family use to take vacation all the time in Florida and Test Track was the only ride in Disney that i remember. My favorite part was the heat and cold room. It sucks the way it turned out.
Standing ovation on this Test Track history! Bravo sir, bravo! Love all your clips from the Dummies (almost forgot about them!) and how you also incorporated both sides opinions in regards to the recent update they have done! While I do have sentiments about the old test track, we took our kids (my stepson who is autistic, and two girls) they absolutely had a blast with designing the car and then going out and testing it. Personally, that matters most to me, seeing the enjoyment on my kids’ faces! Again, SUPERB Test Track history vide!
there are a few interesting things about test track that you didn’t mention, but they’re relatively unknown. i only know because i’m part of a GM family. in the original Test Track, if a GM employee brought their ID, they would be escorted straight to the front of the line to get on the ride before everyone else. i think there may have been an exclusive lounge we could go to back then, but i was pretty young, i don’t remember. however, on 2.0, if you use your ID, it’s basically only a fastpass, and you still have to wait quite a bit to get on the ride. however, if you go to the right of the ride queue, you will approach an elevator with an intercom system. if you show and verify your ID there, you get let into an elevator with the floors labeled (from top to bottom) G, M, C. if you go up to G, you go into a lounge where you can get drinks out of a coca-cola freestyle machine, play around with the chevy design system, and sit on some sectionals and look out at epcot. as for my personal opinion on the ride, old is much better. the new one is far too futuristic and doesn’t really have a true story anymore.
Man I was really missing some Theme Park History. Great video 👍🏻 Theme Park History of Haunted Mansion? And dude, I get the second iteration is now kinda dull but jeez, the original attraction looked like “A Trip Through A Construction Site”.
Oh man didn't think I would be in a hit on nostalgia to Magical Racing tour game XD oh man that gave me some memories. As even so too. Never forget how terrified I be every time your car swerves from the truck! XD Great look back on Test Track there! :D Can't wait to see what you will go into next!
Whenever we go to Epcot we don't even consider going towards Test Track anymore, it just doesn't feel anywhere near as fun as it used to. The queues are massive, the preshows are long and annoying and we just don't feel like it's worth it.
Same here. My wife wondered why i never wanted to go on the new version anymore. So last time she went on the single rider queue while I waited with our 1 year old. When she got back she admitted that it just wasn't as thrilling ad certainly not worth the typical wait.
@@toyaliens That's the thing, It's not really a loss for me. I can close my eyes and picture the entire simplistic ride as it currently exists. There's no thrill in it for me, nor is there anything noteworthy to see. I don't dislike test track, I just dislike the current version of it. I look forward to the day that they create a version 3.
I remember going to Disney World with my parents and sister. The main issue is that I was scared of roller coasters, and thrill rides in general. When we went to Mission Space, I waited by the exit area with my sister. Somehow, my dad convinced me to go on Test Track. I enjoyed most of it, but I was still uneasy. This turned into full on terror when the car turned the corner into the barrier test. There's the wrecked cars along the side, plus there was a video showing what the intended result of the test was. It literally made me cry. Afterwards, I was allowed to get something from the git shop, so I got a mickey shaped Test Track pin. It's a shame I didn't get to go on it again before the 2.0 version. My guess is that the 2.0 revision is to make rebranding easier. While remaking a GM factory can take awhile, all they would need to do now is replace the logos and some of the audio. They may have even made it with Lightcycles in mind, so they could easily flip themes if GM dropped the sponsorship.
One really cool thing about this ride was the special area for GM employees that have a gold card. My grandparents worked for Disney and my grandfather was a retired GM employee so he had one. We could go up, view the only track from the special area and in the area you got free drinks, some snacks and special fast passes.
I still miss Test Track v1, have some fond memories of it including one time with my late grandfather where we rode it around 6 times thanks to a malfunctioning fast pass machine while everyone else in our family was asleep at the resort. On one of those trips a man was thankful my grandfather told him to take his hat off. While I don’t mind the ‘create a car’ aspect of v2, I still miss v1’s more industrial concept and I hate how they’ve gimped/removed parts of the ride e.g. the robot arms and the ‘surprise’ of Lorry in the dark.
Joel Williams you’ve gotta think if they do that on purpose. As a final way to say “see, it’s so old it won’t survive it’s last ride through, now will you let us change it?”
for some reason the ride I remember the most from being a little kid at disney is Ellen's Energy adventure. :( I rode it again months before they closed it and those big ride vehicles were so empty. There were like 15 people on the whole ride.
Lol at the Crash Test Dummies commercial and cartoon show! I loved both! I actually dressed up as a crash test dummy for Halloween one year! Owned a test dummy plush too! 🤣 And I only have ridden the 2.0 Test Track! Thank you soo much for the history lesson!
The upcoming test track retheme has me excited for test track again. The last retheme sucessfully took out all of the soul of the attraction and i hope it can become one of my favorite attractions again soon.
I wish I could've experience the World of Motion ride before its closure, but I'm grateful I get to ride the original incarnation of Test Track. I wasn't a fan of its 2.0 look at first, but it grew on me since, still my favorite attraction.
I remember the showroom, how they'd reveal a pickup truck perched majestically on a desert peak, the sound of thunder in the background and the theme "Like a Rock" playing.
Do a video on Turtle Trek over at SeaWorld Orlando! It’s such a weird little attraction and I remember waiting in line for hours to experience it when it first opened
So I was at the park shortly after test track opened I was 9 and we had split our day between Epcot in the morning and MGM. We got back to Epcot just in time to be the final riders for the day on test track. After we had gotten off the gift shop had already closed down but I really wanted that exact shirt that's in your video so the cast member actually gave it to me for free.
Funny, my grandparents bought a Mustang in part because of seeing them at the World's Fair. It eventually became my Daddy's car. We then move to Florida including the Mustang, the same year Epcot opened. Our other car was a Chevy Nova, so a GM car.
I remember going to Test Track 2.0 completely unaware of the changes and loving it. I liked the original too, but it had become outdated, plus like you stated the new version fells more like an Epcot ride with the preshow design elements.
If someone in your family works for GM you go to a special office where you design your car and get a souvenir Chevrolet 1969 chevelle. This is at test track 2.0
I remember being so ready to ride this in back in 97 only to be told that it was delayed. Luckily we would come back the very next year, in 98 to see the animal kingdom, I vaguely remember being told by a cast member that we had to come back and get in line early as it was only open for so long. Boy was that an amazing experience back in 98😍
Looking back on it, I miss the 90’s industrial aesthetic/atmosphere of this ride and it was the only ride I remembered from the time that I went, now having grown up as a car enthusiast
You should do a video on any one of these attractions: - It's Tough to be a Bug! - Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin - Stitch's Great Escape! - Mickey's PhilharMagic - The Seas with Nemo and Friends
I certainly like the new theme, and I think it made sense. While Shanghai had TRON (also sponsored by Chevrolet), we have Test Track (until they finish the TRON clone at magic Kingdom)
I'm too big of a car guy to appriciate the 2.0 but I get what disney is going with , I remember being very upset at the closure at first but than I warmed up to the new test track but i loved the idea of the original plus I loved spoting the Easter eggs gm and disney placed throughout the original ride queue
As much as I love test track, I wish I could have rode world of motion. I wasn't born for most of the rides of classic Epcot, but I still LOVE learning and watching old Epcot.
