Listening to new Killers songs is like opening Christmas presents.
I went to high school with Brandon. He was in our class and worked at taco time. When the train killed Raymond and Tiffany it was devastating. I love the respect and the story Brandon told. Their story. Nephi was a great place to grow up!! Great little town ❤️

I need all my friends and family to validate this song so badly. I'm going through an unwanted divorce and i'm currently renovating my new place for 5 hours every night after work. This whole album is blasting at all times as i cry, laugh, dance, drink beer, scrape popcorn and remove old carpet. Its healing and connects me to myself and my creator and this land. Its just magic.

I am a 60 year old man who only recently heard about The Killers. Liandra, my oldest daughter turned me onto their music and I’ve been mesmerized ever since. The words. The mix. The pain and the hope that I hear in the lyrics has made me a believer in goodness born from pain and truth. It’s a hard but real blend. When I die, I want some of The Killers music to be played at my service. God and The Killers understand judgement and joy.
You have got loads of their music to catch up on. Lucky you it's all great.

I know Tiffany’s brother. He said their family sat down to listen to the song and cried the whole time. He said he didn’t think so much of the song would actually be about her, at first he thought just a quick line referencing it. Their mom still can’t bring herself to listen to it. Really nice family.

@@geoborgreece I don’t really know about the second couple but Tiffany and her boyfriend got pregnant in high school and planned to get married once they graduated. 6 months later they were driving late at night and got hit by a train and died.
@@scarlettrussell1977 wasn’t late at night. It’s was on school lunch break. 12:15 pm. They had the radio on or something at least that’s what the cops said. Small towns don’t have railway arms that block the road so you have to watch the lights and listen for the trains whistle.

I am from a small town in West Texas and this song reminded me of who I am and of all the friends I had in high school who died tragic deaths , may they rest in peace . And may God continue to bless your work Killers ! I am loving every note and every sweet sigh sung from the ❤ ! Gracias !!

This song touched my soul. I owned a business in Nephi and lived in Mona. My kids went to school with Brandon, including my 16 year old son Jacob who was killed by a train a few years after Raymond and Tiffany were killed. The community wrapped their arms around us and grieved right along beside us.

Hey Jeff, you probably don't remember me, Matt Adams and my brother Johnny, but we both called each other and reminisced about Jacob and boxing matches with Jesse in the yard after listening to this song. Hope all is well! Jacob was a really cool guy.

Seriously. I first heard this song in my car and when I heard that lyric I literally had to pull off the road to compose myself. Such a powerful piece of music.
this song hits a parent in two ways: first, that brief yet deeply moving image about losing children to opioids - adult children, brandon's age, who were lost to addiction but for their parents they will always be in their hearts as daddy's girls and boy scouts
Isn't that how all parents think of their children when they're grown? But that's all they have left of them now.
And then at the end, he sings of walking with the living and the dead through a visit to his hometown, thinking of his parents raising him there

I’d say The Killers have, more than any other group, soundtracked my life. I fell in love for the first time to “Runaways.” My dad and I would listen to cuts from Hot Fuss on our way to the DQ in middle school. Sam’s Town was blaring in my headphones while I visited colleges. As a grown actor, The Man has been my go to pump up song before auditions and job interviews. In all these years of looking up to Brandon Flowers, this is the most vulnerable I’ve ever heard him. The album is gorgeous boys. Feeling blessed to be a Killers fan.
Same here. I would listen to Mr. Brightside as loud as I could every day on the way to high school. Then Sam’s Town in college, and so on and so on. Finally, Imploding the Mirage came at the end of my spiritual awakening. It’s been a synchronistic ride.

I don't know if I would've made it through college if it weren't for ITM and Pressure Machine. This band is literally what keeps me going everyday, I just can't express how much they've done for me. Got one more semester and I'll be home free all thanks to these guys.

Has been since I was about 2 years old... my Daddy loved music and back in tha day we would cruise around listening to Changes ONE Bowie HOT ROCKS Rolling Stones and everything by George Thorogood... we also listen to an incredible singer song writer STEVE FORBERT... I am giving away my age but if I may recommend you check Steve Forbert... he kinda wrote the soundtrack to my childhood...
This song makes me think how similar we are as humans. I grew up in a small town in South America and I identify with many aspects of this piece. It's funny that sometimes we focus on the differences, but I think in the end we are so similar. Thanks to music for reminding us where we came from. It does not matter that you are on the other side of the planet, in the end we are on the same train.
I think people from small towns have more in common with foreigners who also hail from small towns than their compatriots residing in big cities

I am Italian, when I heard this song the first few times I did not understand the meaning of the text, I went to read it and I was shocked by the story behind the song told by Brandon. If you reflect on it you understand the value of life.
I've always felt it in the gym, the first few times I imagined it was a nostalgic re-enactment of American landscapes in John Denver's Country Road style collective imagination. When I discovered the true meaning of the song, I suddenly changed the way I received it.

Unfortunately all the way through. Sam’s Town (previously most compared work) had Springsteen threads but was still very unique in their own sound and lyrical context.

I grew up in Nephi, where this is set. My friends and I would replay the Killers records over and over, knowing Brandon was from there too, hoping to one day make it out of the small town just like he did. I've since moved and for a long time was ashamed to tell people I was from this 'converted truck stop' of town. Now, looking back, I hold those memories of all those people so close and realize that those people are part of who I am today. For all the negatives a small town can bring as far as lack of diversity and ideals, they have a story to tell.

@@Katya_Lastochka to be fair, one can live in a tight knit community within an urbanized landscape. We live in the 7th largest city in the country, but within our section of the city lies a young & vibrant micro community - and with all the amenities & attainable items one needs within a 4 mile radius.
Still, I do get the draw of small town America and there is something to be said about being removed from the rat race social elements that cities tend to have.

I'm not from Nephi, but I'm from the next town down the highway. These songs could've been about any of these rural Utah towns. It's so cool to hear one of my favorite bands singing about where I grew up. This song and album feel like a personal gift.
I played high school baseball games in Nephi. If I wanted to go "up north", I would drive through Nephi and across those train tracks. It was the halfway point between college and home, where my brothers would generously fill up my car with gas as we headed back home from my mom's house.

Well said Russ! Many memories for sure. I’ve crossed that train track so many times. I even fell asleep at the wheel and went down the ravine in the nephi hills. With my two little kids. We all survived miraculously. My heart goes out to the ones this song is about and anyone else who has lost a loved one. What a tragedy! I also love the killers. This whole album is so cohesive and complete. Great storytelling.
Brandon Flowers and The Killers are one of those unique set ups that don't settle for a standard verse chorus verse chorus end. The songs have something different from beginning to end, whether its a coda, an extended chorus or something else, but you can't leave the song before it's done. And as for evolution, no other band has done it better, somehow sounding exactly as they did 20 years ago yet sounding so different with every album.

So much soul in in this song. It brings soul to the world that needs to remember that we can have a simple life and still be fulfilled and happy.. Brandon's voice suits the blues and his beautiful soul is certainly transmitted to this song/album. It brought me memories of a life that I didn't live while listening to this song I imagine how life would be in this quite town. This song certainly a beautiful story telling. . . .

I live in Nephi and have been here almost my whole, minus a few years after I graduated. I went to school with a few of Brandon's nieces and nephews and know his family. I love this song and seeing all the things I grew up with in this video.
The Killers are one of the most consistent bands I've ever listened too.

What I love about the killers is they are inspired by so much music and appreciate it, and yet they are their own band and have a sound that isn't all the same. There are songs on every album that are amazing. Although I tend towards the more dance-y ones that challenge you to sit still while they play, for example, I can never ever tire of any mix of Mr. Brightside, this is a great song, and learning it's a true story, well, it's a great tribute to his town and the families, and many of us can relate to growing up planning your escape from your hometown only to be nostalgic looking back on how you grew up and the people you grew up with and how they influenced you.
The Killers do music that goes in all kinds of directions - yes, there's a Springsteen influence along the road, but also all kinds of other musical influences, most of which I also like and appreciate. Although I know most of us will gravitate to a sound that most appeals to us, I hate the idea that you can only like one genre of music and everything else is crap or that other idea that only a certain era is "good" and all new music "sucks" people can have when they get to a certain age - if that ever happens to me, that's my sign that I've lost my zest for life. I especially hate that idea that you're an original true fan and that anyone who didn't discover a particular band or sound as soon as you did is a poser or that any band that is influenced later by a sound is a a copycat and must be shunned - there's nothing more exciting than hearing a great musician for the first time no matter if they are brand new and you heard of them first, or they are from 50 years ago and you weren't alive when they came out. You miss out on so much fun, cool and just plain good music that way. Every so often a friend will mention liking such and such band and I wonder how that could be because I didn't like it, so I'll go back and have a listen only to discover they're right - So much of it is personal and what you connect with most at certain times in your life. Besides, I just don't get why Springsteen is so polarizing, he tells stories about American life that are pretty spot on and moving. Although his music wasn't the main music I listened to growing up, I never wanted to change the station when he came on, he tells good stories set to music - Good lyrics & good musical composition. Same for the Killers, they just tend to mix up their sound a lot more than other bands, but I don't think that's a bad thing - all of what they do seems authentic to the Killers as musicians, I think it keeps them interesting.
Anyway, thank goodness for UA-cam during the pandemic, I can't live without music --Love the history, the old, the new, the experimental - and you can find it on UA-cam (with video!) so you could feel kinda like you were going to a show when there weren't any shows...
This song is truly inceredible. In fact, no, not just this song, all of Pressure Machine. The memories the songs talk about are so specific but you can still put your own experiences in to them. It's just such a beautiful collection, the sorrowful nostalgia crossed with hope and joy just works so, so well
You can really hear the Springsteen in this song. So far what I'm getting from this album is a look at the "classic Americana", both the good and bad. Looking forward to it!

My very first impression as well!
Unlike most of the comments beneath, I do not come from this part of the world, but I do know enough to recognise magickal evocation when I hear or see it. I have been listening to The Killers since 2004, and this has to be the most powerful personal statement I've heard them make. I live in the UK, but I see and hear the information that reveals the struggles and desparation of ordinary people in the US on a regular basis. So long as places like this have ambassadors like Brandon, they will not be forgotten by the wider world. God bless.

Ever been so early to a killers upload and all you see are the amazing fans that the killers have all across the world, no matter what time it is, they're still here supporting them.
Thoughts upon first listening:
These are my people. I understand the mindset, the culture. I'm in tears.
Every lyric is written on the clay tablets of my heart from my own life lived. This song echoes familiarity.
"Hard working people, if you're in trouble, they'll lend you a hand." I brought that with me to every place I've lived and have been surprised at times to find it is not part of the cultural fabric of all other cities and towns. I have sorely missed casseroles passed over fences and people figuring out how to help a troubled neighbor get through a tough time. "They know how to live. Good people who lean on Jesus , they're quick to forgive." Seeing the good in others, doing your best to do your best in all the places of your life, remembering there is more to this life than only this life. Forgiving so quickly you'll be called foolish by the rest of the world. You're not naïve, because you have felt the heat of the refiner's fire.
Even so, there is a dark side to those places and those people hold their troubles deep inside, with the stain of shame. "Somebody's been keeping secrets". So many secrets, the shame that demands the secrets be hidden and preserved is an inherent weakness in Quiet Town.
"And I will walk with the dead and the living" Our dead are among us. *Our dead are never dead, until we have forgotten them*. That belief is at the nucleus of the faith that moves the feet of those who walk in Quiet Town.
Beautiful experience, this song. Nostalgia, and my long held memories swirling around me. Thank you for this song.

That first audio story clip ... the train is a way out of this life. Train going nowhere. One way train. Train outta town. Sometimes being from Quiet Town, you feel like you've got to get out, away. But a small part of you will ache for it for the rest of your life.

the killers is the only band that make me wonder who are the people on the song, where it happen, why he choose it, and them the whole album is about it, feels complete to me.
I've been listening to the Killers for years and i love each and everyone of there albums, this song is amazing. The Imploding of Mirage album helped me through my cancer recovery.
This is such an unbelievably good song that recaptures so many feelings and what small town America is really like
Animation is a masterpiece. Beautiful story for a beautiful song. Making the deceased kids turn into Angels! The innocence taken away from them still exists in our memories.
A similar thing happened in my hometown to a friend except it was speeding drunk driver that hit her and her boyfriend. Saddest I have ever been and then I became numb like my joy and innocence died. And I was "keeping secrets" of my own pain pill usage. Stolen from my father because that sad day made me not care about life. "Things like that ain't supposed to happen" line came and it broke me. This video gave me an image of my friends still holding hands and living on, even if it is just in my memory. I want them to live in this video. After seeing the imagery here I can think of my best friend without breaking down for the first time since high school 3 years ago. This song and video mean a lot to me. Thanks Killers! wow. some part of me is set free! Hopefully I feel this way tomorrow! I might bring their view count up to 1 million!

As you so clearly pointed out, this town represents MANY (in fact, most) places where we all call home - and that’s why it touches our hearts! That said, I did grow up in this specific town - and the animation includes just enough detail that it brought me to tears ... and made me recall another girl who couldn’t (or wouldn’t, we’ll never know in this life) get her car off the tracks!! Horrifying experience even for the living who weren’t there with her! Also another two boys on motorcycles in an even smaller town about 7 miles up the road! We’ll never know why these accidents happen, but I do hope and pray it adds resolve in our own souls to appreciate and use that time we have and not waste it while we still have a life to live - while continuing to respect and honor and love our fallen friends!! Great lyrics that celebrates the idea of gratitude and homecoming make this song beautiful. The animation only adds to its beauty.
The miracle of this song is that even though he/they obviously wrote it with Nephi in mind, it seriously takes me right back to the quiet town where I grew up. The verse about his parents hits straight to the heart. RIP, Dad.

The song is about "Tiffany JaNae Taylor and Raymond Leo Newton, both 17, sweethearts since the eighth grade, were laid to rest side by side in Mona City Cemetery as their baby daughter, TaKelle JaNae Newton, was held by her aunt, Jamie Garrett.Taylor, who lived in Levan, and Newton, of Mona, were killed on Thursday, Nov. 3, when their car was struck by a Union Pacific train at a railroad crossing in northwest Nephi during a school lunch break.
Speakers at the funeral remembered two young people who were unselfish, good-humored and an asset to the school." This was in 1994, the website I looked at also said they had been planning on getting married after graduation aswell. It's utterly heartbreaking listening to the song knowing the story behind it and so sad that so many people have lost their lives on train tracks.
I also documented what happened in 1994, according to the testimonies of other people (including users here in the comments) many fatal accidents involved the Union Pacific train, the death of Tiffany and Raymond was therefore not the only one. The story of opiate drug abuse among the Nephi population is also true, and that the drama never ended.
I live in southern Europe, so I initially believed that the song was a nostalgic re-enactment of American landscapes and its musical culture, like Denver's Country Roads, when I realized that instead the song was actually a tribute to two unjustly broken lives I was dismayed . I had never been so moved by a song ... and made me reflect on the value of life.

Heard this for the first time on CBS Mornings. A couple days ago I attended a funeral for a 25 year old who died by a self inflicted gunshot wound. Some say suicide but I believe it was an accident. The family is shattered and so are we as close friends. The death of children is unfathomable. Grief is unlimited and unending and this song speaks to that. I write this while sobbing.

Back in fall 2021 I heard this song on the radio during a time that I really needed hope. It kind of became my theme song in getting out of the hole I was in. On New Year's Eve, the radio station that I'd listened to it on was doing a countdown of the best alternative music that year. I listened as I waited for midnight, not knowing if this song would be on the list. When it started playing, I got so excited, and I scrambled to record it with the little MP3 player / radio I had. Later, this song helped me process some tragic and life-changing things that my close friend did. Thank you to the Killers for writing this song.

This song gets a lot of air play on 101,7 the wolf, Elsberry, MO. I listen to this station a lot. There are songs, that have seen me through tough times. This is one of those songs. I lost my youngest son to a fentanyl overdose i Sept 2020. I plan to listen to the rest of their music. Thank you for sharing this song. I am so sorry you lost your friends.

I "met" Brandon when he was about 2 years old and in diapers. I knew his family when they lived in our ward (I was their 'Home Teacher'). I worked with one of his sisters when she was a temp at Ethel M Chocolates. His mom, Jean (or Jeanne) was a very nice lady. My wife and I ran into her much later at a wedding reception one night and she told us that Brandon had put out a 4 song CD. First time I ever heard about him being a musician.

Shelly Elder was one of my dads (Melvin Jess Bennetts) very BEST friends. I loved him so. I used to babysit for them. They too had a daughter named Chelsea and my dad has a daughter named Shelley. He was such a kind and thoughtful man. It was the hardest thing watching my dad say goodbye. I cried and cried for days and couldn't bring myself to go to his viewing until my mom said dad could really use our support and I would regret not saying goodbye for myself. I am so grateful I did. He was such an inspiration in my young life. Still miss that gentle soul 💔

This song has been on repeat for me since it came out. There is such an understated beauty to it that I hope it eventually reaches the music masses. Absolutely beautiful song with so much meaning. This is now one of my top favorite Killers songs, and that says a lot about how much I love it. I also think this particular song would get a lot of radio play and positive attention. It makes me think about my childhood. The good and bad. Brings back my own memories. I know the song isn't about my life, but if a song made me reflect on it, it has power. Thank you for this.
