- Las Vegas-based band The Killers burst onto the music scene in 2004 and have since become one of the biggest bands in the world. Their new album "Pressure Machine" is No. 1 on Billboard's top rock and Americana charts, and it's their seventh straight album to hit No. 1 in the U.K. The Killers perform "Quiet Town" from "Pressure Machine."
Even though Brandon Flowers is already well-known, I think his incredible talent is still so underrated.
I didn't know him until I saw this on TV
Absolutely.
Agree
@@mikegruber172 Do you live under a rock or something? The Killers are probably the latest great rock band in the US.
In America rock is underrated overall. But The Killers go anywhere in Europe and they are revered.
The Band deserves more credit than they received but in this context I feel that Brandons voice getting stronger and stronger. It's a powerful development.
Never really listened to The Killers till I heard this song. How beautiful and how so true, wish it got way more play on the radio. Great song, the more I listen, the better I like them.👍👍👍👍👍❤❤❤❤🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
They are the best!!!!
Never known a band to take their Springsteen influences and turn them into anything as beautiful as this song. So well-done.
John Mellencamp, too!
I can hear the Springsteen influence too.
@@johnhoward1313 It took me a moment to imagine the Mellencamp influence, but yes.
Check out " Terrible Thing " off of this album. It sounds like it's straight off of Springsteens Nebraska album.
More John Cougar Mellencamp than it is Springsteen, which that’s not even Bruce’s real name. He made up Springsteen as a character he pretends to be a small town guy.
I could be mistaken but this has to be the best live performance of a song in the last 20 years.
No you are right
I am 78 and have never heard of Brandon Flowers til this beautiful haunting depiction.of the decay of.past industrial towns and the drug epidemic in place of jobs, until it popped up on UA-cam. I sent it around and will listen to more of his music.
The songwriting on this album is phenomenal. If you haven’t heard “A Dustland Fairytale” from the Killers, you should listen
That song is from Day & Age (2008).
@@MoahGentle Yeah, sorry if I wasn’t clear. I just think most who like this album’s style would probably like that song as well
And The Way It Was as well
Song makes me cry every time
Thank you so much for the rec. Incredible song and vid
This song just ripped out my heart and left me with a sinking feeling. But in the most beautiful way. The Killers are easily 1 of the top band if not the top we have had in the past 20 years.
That's precisely how I felt.
Well said 👏
Brandon has that „something“ in his voice that I can´t name, some essence of nostalgia or sadness, I feel like I grown in that place he sings about, I feet that sadness of death two young people I´ve never known, I feet that nostalgia of his beautiful childhood ...This song is so authentic....I desperatelly hope I´ll see these guys once at live show - I´m from the middle of Europe - Slovakia -so it would be a miracle for me 🙏
I’ll help name it for you! He has an against-all-odds hopefulness that anyone who’s seen trouble or tough times identifies with immediately. Even in the bleakest subject material there are rays of light the darkness can’t shut out. If there’s even an ounce of good hidden in a bad time, a killers song will help you find it.
Saudade
@@pho1773 You sir are brilliant. That's exactly how I feel about Smile Like You Mean IT. My childhood wasn't the happiest or the worst but that song brings me to the good times and bad times. It's almost magical.
Know exactly what you're talking about - it feels the same for me - you described it so very well!
I hope you make it a show.
The Killers should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!
After this album it’s now all but assured
Yeah, they'll finally get to join such Rock n Roll legends like Run DMC, Jay Z, 2Pac and NWA... can't wait!!
/s
Only after 2029
They still have a few years to go before they’re eligible, but I sure hope so.
I can say with full confidence, I've finally heard a great new song in 2021.
Like I Used To - Sharon Van Etten/Angel Olsen
I have a few others on the list, but this one and Quiet Town are my favorites.
@@JorshWarshington1 thanks for the recommendation! I'll check it out now. :)
@@JorshWarshington1 oh my... I've heard "Like I Used To" more than 10 times in a row and I can't agree enough, it's a great song and I love it!. Thank you!!
This is a great song but I like "blood on my hands" or "am I the only one"
The album is amazing. IMO the best since Sam’s Town. It has this quiet despair with every song brushed with a underlying sense of fear. While many artists are trying to write something for the times in which we live, it is the Killers who have quietly created the album of the moment.
I am so glad they released this album, it’s very quickly becoming my favorite. Each song is a masterpiece in its own right.
Can't fail in my eyes. Brandon, your voice is so unique and this song is one of your best. Love it. Come back to the UK soon. You know we love you
Such a brilliant, emotional but passionate tribute to young lives gone too soon! An excellent song!
I love how Bradon and the Killers carved their own unique Springsteen-meets-New Order kind of sound. Super talented band with agreat catalogue of music.
First time I heard this song, I could imagine Bruce Springsteen singing it.
First time I heard this song, I could imagine Bruce Springsteen singing it.
Man, Bruce + New Order. That’s it.
If you grow up in a quiet town its almost impossible to not get deeply hit by this song.
I'm from a big town and got hit by this song. It's refreshing to hear such a brutally honest song.
@@mkproductions4122 u damn right sir.
In one with only around 200 ish folk and completely agree.
This song reminds of my best friend who overdosed taking combination cocain and heroine. We used to play on the train tracks together and see how close we could get to the train before jumping to avoid it. Rip Dustin Brockbank.
A beautiful tribute to home with a sweet tenderness that feels warm and comforting. What a blessing!
This song is an instant classic.
Any song that makes you smile and cry within 4 minutes gets to be called a classic.
I grew up in a big city and raised my family in a small town. I love both.
My kids could have written this song. It's speaks so loudly to the values I wanted to instill in them.
Tight families, hard work, help your neighbor, forgive your loved ones. Even through the hardest of times.
This song is beautiful.
This is absolutely fantastic songwriting. Reminds me of Jason Isbell or John Moreland. Maybe with sprinkles of Dylan. It hits the sweet spot and evokes some serious emotions. Love it.
Did you forget Springsteen?!
Just brilliant ... in so many ways.
Oh my... What a song. I'm weeping for those who've left this world, believing they were nothing special.
This is the most Springsteen song that I've ever heard (not done by Bruce). So simple and still so poetic. It's perfect.
After listening to it half a dozen times, I think Pressure Machine is now my third favorite Killers album behind only Hot Fuss and Sam's Town. It's ridiculously underrated and beautiful.
I totally agree. Nothing will ever beat Sam's Town and that's alright. I was getting kind of disappointed by The Killers because I thought they were so, so much better than their last 2 albums. Pressure Machine seems like the perfect record at the perfect time...kind of like Hot Fuss and Sam's Town, no?
For me it competes for the best with Imploding The Mirage (and god I love Sam's Town more than any of their stuff) but the flamboyant energy of ITM and the risk taking brilliance of Pressure Machine are just incredible to me
Number 1 for me
The pace + peace this brings to the heart is welcomed during these uncertain times.
Perfectly encapsulates a quiet, small town.
Every time The Killers bring out a new album, I have to rearrange my favourite tracks. This is one of the best bands of all time.
God bless this band
I love Brandon's voice
+ 1
album is FUKNG phenomenal... GRAMMY
When we first heard opioid stories
They were always in whispering tones........
I love love love this song. I just heard it on the radio from 92.5 the river, an independent station, in Boston yesterday. The song just resonates with me. Wow! Incredible. A song hasn’t hit me like that for quite some time.
Such Amazing writing. I really just discovered Brandon Flowers and the Killers. The writing is what touches me. I.
Would loved to create with them one day
What a fantastic song my favourite ❤
This song….one of those ones that just cuts to the quick. You love it but it haunts you. Knowing parts of it could be any number of people that you actually know. You’re thankful that you got out. You know some just like you didn’t. There’s still a happiness in that quiet town, but so much sadness to be sure.
What a tune…
I know, man. He did it on this one.
For sure, this song is something. And I keep coming back to this performance to let it haunt me again. It feels like reading a Keats poem or one of the Romantics, you know it's going to hurt, but it's beautiful and true and that in itself eases one's soul. This is art, this is life.
Wow, just wow! Easily the best album of year.
Perfect! Love this version of an instant classic
I like this version much better.
Heart-wrenching
What an amazing song, beautiful storytelling
This is one of my favorite youtube live performances ever. Really really well done Killers!
I grew up in a "quiet town" in Iowa, just a few miles from where Dave Keuning grew up and I could relate to the words. This a beautiful song and it brought tears to my eyes. LOVE THIS SONG!!!
I felt the exact same way. Reminded me of the area my mom grew up in in Pennsylvania. His lyrics describe the area well and how I felt when I would visit it.
This band goes through different iterations and I enjoy each one. Not bad. They'll have a rock anthem album again on next one...lol
Why does this song make me cry every time?
I love this song😍 finally it's live🎶
This is a wonderful surprise to stumble upon because I have been listening to Hot Fuss and Sam's Town all day. I am so happy to see this.
Such heartfelt singing, and so much truth to every word. I am so grateful for your passion, and soulfulness. Great back up singers, harmonica playing. Thank you for sharing❤.
Absolutely beautiful
This is a perfect song
This is the first album in a longtime where i can turn it on and just night drive. See the red taillights in the distance and just fit in. Its about people. Its not about the rich, it not a personal tale its about people. Such beautiful storytelling
Heard this on the radio today and fell in love half way through. Great song!
I'm so excited to be seeing these guys for the first time this Sept....Can't wait
Just recently retired Army COL... this song/version has inspired me... my Family/and I have ALWAYS LOVED The KILLERS... but THIS version is 'Special' GOD Bless The Killers
Thank you for your service, good sir.
Keuning, Sablay, Blanton, and Flowers.
Song spreads positive vibes despite it's poignant subject...forget a "small" town, this is closer to reality...
What a beautiful song.
What a magic song!
Absolutely amazed of how this performed live sounds EXACTLY like the original. He has an amazing voice and carries it well
Great work guys.
Heart wrenching….
So beautiful ❤️
The killers nunca decepciona! 👏👏
no doubt that Brandon Flowers is one of the best lyricists of the last 20 years !! Touching song
Such an awesome song! Best storytelling around 😊
Beautiful
This is so much better than the album version
Great and beautiful song.
Grandes ❤❤
What a song Sad but " Beautiful"✌️☮️👍
Perfect song ❤❤❤
This son has an unbelievable SOUL!
A beautiful song.
Stunning backup vocals
Best version.
This song touches my heart deeply. It stays on my mind. Saturday Sessions rendition is just superb. I love it.
This song gives me goose bumps.
Love this Song. This acoustic version Is very appropriate.
This song strikes a very different tone if you listen to the recording that plays before it on the album. The recording overtly implies that the kids killed themselves. It explains the lyrics which can be read as "this community is good, things like that aren't supposed to happen here, someone's keeping a secret." While Brandon Flowers is himself a devout Mormon this song as well as the rest of the record comes across as self-critique in part. Like how Terrible Thing is written from the perspective of a homosexual on the verge of suicide. The entire album front to back is very self aware if sometimes a little soft on any outright criticism, which is completely just. It's actually a surprisingly good record and it comes across as an unbiased insider portrait of the more empty side of Nephi with an unwavering and tangible hope for the future. It's incredibly sentimental and I think it's stunningly more soulful than something like Battle Born.
Fun fact, I am friends with the niece of the dude that did the recording
100% more soulful than battle born
Which part of the song terrible thing leads you to believe it was written from the perspective of a homsexual?
@@r.bailey7343 On Genius it says “Terrible Thing is the third song from The Killers' seventh album Pressure Machine. The song centers on a gay teenager who’s contemplating suicide. This song just as the others in the album are inspired from Brandon Flowers' memories. In an interview for The Rolling Stone Magazine, Flowers stated:
There were kids I grew up with who I didn’t know until years later that they were gay. It must have just been so hard. I think the world is moving in a more positive direction and a more inclusive direction, but this was still in the Nineties and people kept this stuff close."
Superb version of this song!! The backing vocals are amazing 🎶👍
Beautiful!
This is the best song I've ever heard. Ever. Better than the beatles
Man thats just good stuff all the way around.😁
Beautiful song.
Remember hearing this for first time in 1974. Never forgotten
The lyrics to this song is so good!
.... E poi ti ritrovi ad ascoltare pezzi come questo 😳 da star male da quanto ti entra nelle vene ♥️ grazie.
I feel it. Beautiful.
What great Song and writing welcome back the killers . Let's hear this on US radio stations! Such good music!
Seems like so long since Hot Fuss was released; I loved The Killers back then and still love them now!
Omg his voice is just fantastic he sounds the same like in studio.
Brilliant....up to the standard of a song on Hot Fuss....wonderful. A song from the heart!!
My God, Brandon, we always love ur voice!
Love .. beautiful brought tears to my eyes .. like this slowed down version exceptional ❤️
Hello, how are you doing? Hope you’re having a wonderful day!!
