More John Cougar Mellencamp than it is Springsteen, which that’s not even Bruce’s real name. He made up Springsteen as a character he pretends to be a small town guy.
I am 78 and have never heard of Brandon Flowers til this beautiful haunting depiction.of the decay of.past industrial towns and the drug epidemic in place of jobs, until it popped up on UA-cam. I sent it around and will listen to more of his music.
The Band deserves more credit than they received but in this context I feel that Brandons voice getting stronger and stronger. It's a powerful development.
Never really listened to The Killers till I heard this song. How beautiful and how so true, wish it got way more play on the radio. Great song, the more I listen, the better I like them.👍👍👍👍👍❤❤❤❤🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
This song just ripped out my heart and left me with a sinking feeling. But in the most beautiful way. The Killers are easily 1 of the top band if not the top we have had in the past 20 years.
Brandon has that „something“ in his voice that I can´t name, some essence of nostalgia or sadness, I feel like I grown in that place he sings about, I feet that sadness of death two young people I´ve never known, I feet that nostalgia of his beautiful childhood ...This song is so authentic....I desperatelly hope I´ll see these guys once at live show - I´m from the middle of Europe - Slovakia -so it would be a miracle for me 🙏
I’ll help name it for you! He has an against-all-odds hopefulness that anyone who’s seen trouble or tough times identifies with immediately. Even in the bleakest subject material there are rays of light the darkness can’t shut out. If there’s even an ounce of good hidden in a bad time, a killers song will help you find it.
@@pho1773 You sir are brilliant. That's exactly how I feel about Smile Like You Mean IT. My childhood wasn't the happiest or the worst but that song brings me to the good times and bad times. It's almost magical.
@@JorshWarshington1 oh my... I've heard "Like I Used To" more than 10 times in a row and I can't agree enough, it's a great song and I love it!. Thank you!!
The album is amazing. IMO the best since Sam’s Town. It has this quiet despair with every song brushed with a underlying sense of fear. While many artists are trying to write something for the times in which we live, it is the Killers who have quietly created the album of the moment.
After listening to it half a dozen times, I think Pressure Machine is now my third favorite Killers album behind only Hot Fuss and Sam's Town. It's ridiculously underrated and beautiful.
I totally agree. Nothing will ever beat Sam's Town and that's alright. I was getting kind of disappointed by The Killers because I thought they were so, so much better than their last 2 albums. Pressure Machine seems like the perfect record at the perfect time...kind of like Hot Fuss and Sam's Town, no?
For me it competes for the best with Imploding The Mirage (and god I love Sam's Town more than any of their stuff) but the flamboyant energy of ITM and the risk taking brilliance of Pressure Machine are just incredible to me
I love how Bradon and the Killers carved their own unique Springsteen-meets-New Order kind of sound. Super talented band with agreat catalogue of music.
Just recently retired Army COL... this song/version has inspired me... my Family/and I have ALWAYS LOVED The KILLERS... but THIS version is 'Special' GOD Bless The Killers
This is absolutely fantastic songwriting. Reminds me of Jason Isbell or John Moreland. Maybe with sprinkles of Dylan. It hits the sweet spot and evokes some serious emotions. Love it.
This song is an instant classic. Any song that makes you smile and cry within 4 minutes gets to be called a classic. I grew up in a big city and raised my family in a small town. I love both. My kids could have written this song. It's speaks so loudly to the values I wanted to instill in them. Tight families, hard work, help your neighbor, forgive your loved ones. Even through the hardest of times. This song is beautiful.
This song….one of those ones that just cuts to the quick. You love it but it haunts you. Knowing parts of it could be any number of people that you actually know. You’re thankful that you got out. You know some just like you didn’t. There’s still a happiness in that quiet town, but so much sadness to be sure. What a tune…
For sure, this song is something. And I keep coming back to this performance to let it haunt me again. It feels like reading a Keats poem or one of the Romantics, you know it's going to hurt, but it's beautiful and true and that in itself eases one's soul. This is art, this is life.
I grew up in a "quiet town" in Iowa, just a few miles from where Dave Keuning grew up and I could relate to the words. This a beautiful song and it brought tears to my eyes. LOVE THIS SONG!!!
I felt the exact same way. Reminded me of the area my mom grew up in in Pennsylvania. His lyrics describe the area well and how I felt when I would visit it.
I love love love this song. I just heard it on the radio from 92.5 the river, an independent station, in Boston yesterday. The song just resonates with me. Wow! Incredible. A song hasn’t hit me like that for quite some time.
Such Amazing writing. I really just discovered Brandon Flowers and the Killers. The writing is what touches me. I. Would loved to create with them one day
Such heartfelt singing, and so much truth to every word. I am so grateful for your passion, and soulfulness. Great back up singers, harmonica playing. Thank you for sharing❤.
I don't know a ton of Springsteen songs outside of the big hits. However, I've seen many comments saying they take many influences from Springsteen. You should check out songs like When You Were Young, Runaways, My Own Souls Warning, and their newest single Bright Lights. They actually collaborated with Bruce on Dustland.
This is the first album in a longtime where i can turn it on and just night drive. See the red taillights in the distance and just fit in. Its about people. Its not about the rich, it not a personal tale its about people. Such beautiful storytelling
This song reminds of my best friend who overdosed taking combination cocain and heroine. We used to play on the train tracks together and see how close we could get to the train before jumping to avoid it. Rip Dustin Brockbank.
I wish they would release an acoustic version like this. Wow!
Never known a band to take their Springsteen influences and turn them into anything as beautiful as this song. So well-done.
John Mellencamp, too!
I can hear the Springsteen influence too.
@@johnhoward1313 It took me a moment to imagine the Mellencamp influence, but yes.
Check out " Terrible Thing " off of this album. It sounds like it's straight off of Springsteens Nebraska album.
More John Cougar Mellencamp than it is Springsteen, which that’s not even Bruce’s real name. He made up Springsteen as a character he pretends to be a small town guy.
Even though Brandon Flowers is already well-known, I think his incredible talent is still so underrated.
I didn't know him until I saw this on TV
Absolutely.
Agree
@@mikegruber172 Do you live under a rock or something? The Killers are probably the latest great rock band in the US.
In America rock is underrated overall. But The Killers go anywhere in Europe and they are revered.

I could be mistaken but this has to be the best live performance of a song in the last 20 years.
No you are right
prove it
No mistakes. This is the best version of Quiet Town!
No, mistake. Many years I had the pleasure to hear him live in Singapore, still my fav concert since
Great work guys.
Beautiful sad song
The Band deserves more credit than they received but in this context I feel that Brandons voice getting stronger and stronger. It's a powerful development.
The Killers should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!
After this album it’s now all but assured
Yeah, they'll finally get to join such Rock n Roll legends like Run DMC, Jay Z, 2Pac and NWA... can't wait!!
/s
Only after 2029
They still have a few years to go before they’re eligible, but I sure hope so.
This is a perfect song

They are the best!!!!
Palestine was once quiet and free too…
Killers have Many Many Many great songs. Dustland Fairytale being one. Mrs. Atomic Bomb is another.
They have a lot of good songs. Not sure what you've listened to but their songs have a tendency to grow on you. They're amazing live as well.
Yes they do, love Quier Town. My favorite. ❤❤❤❤🤗🤗🤗🤗
This song just ripped out my heart and left me with a sinking feeling. But in the most beautiful way. The Killers are easily 1 of the top band if not the top we have had in the past 20 years.
That's precisely how I felt.
Well said 👏
The songwriting on this album is phenomenal. If you haven’t heard “A Dustland Fairytale” from the Killers, you should listen
That song is from Day & Age (2008).
@@MoahGentle Yeah, sorry if I wasn’t clear. I just think most who like this album’s style would probably like that song as well
And The Way It Was as well
