The art is gorgeous, RCA got it out of the park. I love the Heavy Metal vibe in the Megastructure scenes.
The song struck me like a chord when I first heard it. I was completely blown away by this music video! It’s a nostalgia trip going back in time by shooting through infinity to get there.
WhatnotSoforth the cover art for the single reminds me of Dune
It looks a bit tweened to me, meaning computer assisted frames between hand drawn keyframes, not each individual frame drawn by hand.

This beautiful nostalgic animation style needs to come back as a feature-length big-budget theatrical movie.
It is amazing how each segment looks like it is taken from some forgotten classic animation movie. And: full credits in the video and description. Which is always a sign that the band did it on purpose and wasn't just an accidentally successful pitch.
@colr naranjanga no
The closest you'll get to this is either “Love Death+robots” which was inspired by “ heavy metal”... it's about different stories, but all stories have one thing in common tho... There's an object known as the orb, which is unknown... Until the climax
There is a phenomenal film called redline that I'm sure yall would love. One of my favorite animated films out there 😍
I attended a funeral today and discovered this song yesterday for the first time. I hit play on my way to and from the funeral itself on repeat. It was an untimely passing, too young at 32. This song has given me so much perspective I’ve never held previously. Bravo Strokes
Bravo Julian Casablancas ❤
Based on the video, I like to think this is mostly about different relationships with death.
The boy is suicidal, the curse in the rabbit world seems to be inescapable, the aliens are transcending, and the space warrior sacrifices herself.
They are all met with death and deal with it in different ways. The turn to it, they run from it, they aspire for it, and they are honored by it.
A lot of deep feels in this masterpiece.
And "the door" is the unknown. The void. The line between life and death.
Even though these stories are very different, they are connected through life and death. Something inevitable for everything in the universe.
Thank you for the analysis! Was looking for that kind of comment and I’d add that it lines up with what I visioned during the clip.
Perfect analysis
This is very nice and makes a lot of sense! Thanks for that!
Julian created a band called the voidz because he feels his own mortality?

🔥The Strokes - At The Door Lyrics
🔥ua-cam.com/video/yRok4GcJWOo/v-deo.html
Does anyone understand that video? I believe it's that story of the boy who was born and raised in the late 20th century. A typical example of "the future youth (as incarnating souls) will come from entirely different cosmic worlds than us", like Rudolf Steiner once told his followers. He witnesses how people -- his own human parents -- fall victim to demonical possession of the worst kind (Asuras) and tear everything, deep love built up in many years, apart, even destroying their own kid's cosmic heroine right in front of him. The kids brain gets destructed in a moment like this, but he yet has to live and later he dies in more modern times as a cosmonaut, because people of "the new abnormal" lifestyle are casual about the life of their fellow man and forgot to provide him with air out of lazyness or something like that.
Then there's the cosmic heroine. I think they should have used another image then she breaking those titanian chains, because no one is able to build up _that_ much PSI especially in that kind of a situation. (Lower minded people in the near, are restricting the use of PSI by nature. For example, it's nearly impossible to physically levitate among low-minded idiots, because minds always have the occult power to hold things as they know them.) is this in the future, and is the spiritual cosmic civilization destroying future Earth, because it became decadent?
Also the boy visits his old parental home as a sphere-human (=dead person). Then it transforms into the future: organic, self-sufficient cities in which the higher (minded) race will live in, while the rest, all the peoples of evil, the new human primates, will live their ape-like fates in the non-civilized wastelands. This will be in the mid of the 2000s.
It's going to be breathtakingly beautiful
I started listening to The Strokes when I was still in school. Now I'm a 27 years old man. Next year I'm going to be a dad. This song hits me really hard that I have to grow up and face the harsh reality of adulthood. May all of us be strong together.
You got this, dude. Sometimes we feel super underprepared, but that's okay. Have faith in yourself.
Congratulations for daddyhood🎉
May all of us be strong together
May everything be eased
I was in school too when I 1st heard them, now im in my 30s with kids and when they get in the car they say put the Strokes on, when were barbecuing in the backyard its the Strokes on the speakers, show your kids what good music is and you get to re-enjoy the songs over again.
This dudes voice just rips emotion and mood through every fiber of my being. It’s so good
it’s quite obvious what this song is about (death) but essentially it’s about contemplating death, accepting death, fighting death, sacrifice, encouraging others to move on after, and the transcendence of death. there’s probably more themes i missed so feel free to add but by far my most played song of 2021 by far
Sounds like it's about a kid having terminal illness, in a family where the parents are already having struggles. They wants to be used like an oar to navigate their parents troubles, while they struggle to come to terms with their terminal issues. I think that they are having difficulties because of the cannonball reference.
The kid feels alone every night, probably because they can't leave due to poor health conditions, and when they are banging at the door, the parents don't have the answers to the terminal illness problem
I could be projecting however 😅
@@nathanauger7744 i mean that’s a fair assessment but the video shows so much more than just the kids story, i think “at the door” is more of a reference to general thoughts of death in many forms rather than just terminal illness

But you can see that in that moment he realized fear would not help him, it cannot help anyone of us. We must learn to gather our stengths to find ourselves out of bad situations. @@vinterbukser2261 I did it! nice recommendation stranger from UA-cam!
*The video explained, from Wikipedia:*
The video was done in the style of 1980s animation and tells several roughly interlinked stories. The stories are:
- _The Boy_ - A young boy is at home while his parents watch TV when a hooded figure appears at the doorway. Subsequently, the boy's parents fight while he sits sadly in a corner, playing with a toy figure of the warrioress from the _Megastructure_ story. The hooded figure is revealed to be Death, who takes the boy along with him on a cosmic journey where they witness the _Cosmonaut 1982_ story. Death embraces the boy as he cries. The boy enters a doorway to return to his home, where he finds find it empty and long deserted with the implication that his parents are dead. The _Boy_ story was drawn by a team led by Benjy Brooke.
- _The Rabbits_ - During an eclipse of the moon, a group of rabbits flee while another rabbit turns demoniacal. One of the rabbits is trapped in a tunnel and is scarred by the demoniacal rabbit. Subsequently, the scarred rabbit is able to escape from the netting which binds him in the tunnel. The scarred rabbit joins the other rabbits, but the attack has traumatized him as he always fearfully turns around to see what is behind him. The _Rabbits_ story was drawn by a team led by Adam Henderson.
- _The Megastructure_ - On a mechanical planet called the Megastructure, a sinister alien called the Overlord views the _Rabbit_ and _Boy_ stories. A warrior woman imprisoned and tortured by the aliens breaks free of her chains and kills her tormentors. She then hijacks a flying car and goes in pursuit of the Overlord with the intention of killing him, but before she does, the Megastructure explodes, killing everyone. The _Megastructure_ story was drawn by Pablo Gostanian and his 2Veinte studio in Buenos Aires.
- _The Celestial Procession_ - In the depths of outer space a group of hooded aliens march on an ethereal structure before their leader, who is dressed in a style reminiscent of a Chinese empress. The empress activates a power surge, which apparently destroys the Megastructure and opens a doorway. The aliens in the procession enter the doorway and disappear with the implication that they are sacrificing their lives. The _Celestial Procession_ story was drawn by a team led by Adam Sillard.
- _Cosmonaut 1982_ - In outer space, a Soviet spacecraft surrounded by debris has an alien attached to it while the lifeless body of a cosmonaut floats outside. The spacecraft explodes, killing the alien. It is implied that the cosmonaut sacrificed his life to destroy the alien and prevent the spacecraft from returning to Earth. Afterwards, the wreckage of the spacecraft is sucked into a black hole. The _Cosmonaut 1982_ story was drawn by Ugo Bienvenu and his Remembers Productions studio in Paris.
The last shot of the video is of the boy wandering his abandoned home before the video cuts away to a shot of a futuristic, edenic place as Casablancas sings about "waiting on the other side". The video's director and writer, Mike Burakoff, explains its meaning as: "There’s a feeling when you are growing up that you are just leaving for a second to go get something, that you’ll be right back. But reality is not the same as a memory, you can’t go back. Something or some time that feels so close to you can be impenetrably far away. It’s a feeling of loss that I get when I think about certain memories from my past. That notion is at the heart of this video… How do these different characters deal with loss? What does it feel like to face the future?"
thank you

The whole story is enigmatic. I love it!

That look of confusion that the bunny has when it gets slashed across the face, as if confused as to why anyone would want to hurt someone like that...it’s heartbreaking.
Yes Alan, it is heartbreaking. Heart wrenching. There is so much compassion and empathy and love here, God bless you all for having...hearts of gold....for I too am that way and my heart breaks every day for you, for me and for them. The pain on the rabbits face, almost hard to take because it seems like despair. The hardest part is sitting here helpless, watching it and there is nothing I can do to help him. And this is a metaphor for all of us who have been struck dumb and left with that pained expression of sadness, fear and confusion.

What they're fightin' for
I can't escape it
I'm never gonna make it till the end, I guess
Struck me like a chord
I'm an ugly boy
Holdin' on the night
Lonely after light
Bangin' on the door
I don't wanna know
Sinkin' like a stone
So use me like an oar
Onto fight what I can't see
Not tryna build no dynasty
I can't see beyond this wall
But we lost this game so many times before
I've been on a cold road
I'll be waiting
I'll be waiting for the old times
Waiting for the time to pass
I've been on a cold road
I'll be waiting for the old times
Waiting for the time to pass

For everyone bitching about no drums or guitar have you not heard Call it Fate Call it Karma?? It’s not the first time they’ve done this. I think this will be one song that glues the album together
Richard Reney Call it fate has a rhythm track provided from an optigan/mellotron, but yeah I agree. What makes this song great is how bare it is
Yes but, how many people's favorite song is call it fate call it karma?
I hope there aren’t any guitar or drums on the album. I want them to go deep into the synth abyss.
Mi conclusión.
Julian debe estar insoportable en plena crisis.
Por eso grabó esto solo. Porque no se lo aguanta nadie.
Yes Yes mine
I can't get over the look of betrayal on the rabbits face after he was scratched..
The me that heard this song at the beginning of the pandemic is not the same me that watched this song now we will make it out in time y’all.
Same
When Julian said "I am an ugly boy" , I really felt that :)
@Xo Fob I know
Keep your head up king, your snapback is falling off
Ugly boy inside
I think he says "I'm an only boy"
fodase
Seriously, this is an amazing song. I never heard Julian sing better than this. And this video is a beautiful trip.
Every song by The Strokes that has such an innovative arrangement makes me wonder if maybe all this time I was listening to the same music with different singers or bands, because literally some of his songs are unlike anything I've heard before compared to other artists, it was what my life was missing, thanks for giving it to me, thank you Julian you are always a great inspiration.
even in 2024 this song hits way harder than any other. only julian can make a song that makes u feel a 100 emotions in a single song. a forever rock legend.

Yea might as well change their name
The Voidz are good now so I’m okay with this
I love both's way they're goin this year gonna be great man
yeah, it s the voidz without auto tune...
Tame Impala's album 14 February and now The Strokes.
Life on this planet is beautiful sometimes
Simone Cerullo stroke full length album. 10 April
Simone Cerullo 100% agreed😍😭❤️
i mean only sometimes, when these things happens. Otherwise is 97,5 % shit
I have listen to the Slow Rush and spoiler : it's a banger :)
This is a masterpiece and this is the best album I have heard in a good few years. I have a deep newfound love for the whole vibe of this album. Better than i could have ever hoped for. The strokes are genuinely on there own level.
Does anyone else almost cry everytime...almost
THE DAFT STROKES
Same
Synthesizer in the song is killer, here some influence from one of the greats Stevie Wonder.
I was looking for that comment.
daft stroke*
so much Muse influence as well
I’m 31 years old, a song that can make you think about your whole life and its memories in less than 6 minutes is a keeper.
Okay grandpa 😩
Same fuckin ehy
Im 14
Well said
I'm almost 33 and I know what you mean.
Am I the only person that thinks this song (and music video) gives off the same energy as studio Ghibli films do? I dunno but this song is absolutely magical.
so much emotion in one song
Listen to this nice song Time by The Impures
Really proud to say I was on the floor at the Bernie Sanders rally where they debuted this video (and another new song) last night in New Hampshire. Everyone was awestruck. After this, an eager fan hopped on the stage only to be removed by the security. Julian wasn't too happy about this and basically said "nah get up here. actually everybody get up here" and proceeded on playing New York City Cops while the small stage filled with a few dozen other fans.
Not going to lie, reading this ruined the song for me... (Even though most music (particularly this type) is "left-wing" generally, I typically stop *far* short of communism)! 😆 Why can't artists and actors just refrain from interjecting and/or endorsing politics, and just let the piece speak for itself..? 😕
J. Gona In my opinion even though they support Bernie something like this should not affect your perception of this songs and their music, because music at the end music is supposed to be enjoyed even if the artists have their own political views
J. Gona if artists want to be political they can be. You don’t have to listen☺️☺️☺️☺️
@@CaptiveReefSystems People have issues in their lives that the government is responsible for or has a responsibility to fix. Music by extension allows an escape for those types of feelings, and an artist choosing to sympathize or agree with a person on how to alleviate those issues, and merely a comment from a fan and it "ruined the song for me"..you ruined it for yourself bud lmfao
@@CaptiveReefSystems The piece DOES speak for yourself. You are the one interjecting politics into it, the song was just debuted at a Bernie Sanders rally because it was. And besides, politics being interjected into music has made some damn good music.
Can't say I don't miss hearing the guitar in their music but I definitely dig this as well
Wait til you hear Bad Decisions. It's amazing with classic guitars
Wait for The Adults Are Talking for that (or just watch the live performance videos of that song)
Relatable. I miss the guitar so damn much and I also miss the old The Strokes when Julian didn't use autotune. But still they're my favorite band ever and I love them. I just wish they could do an album kinda similar to Room On Fire.
I don’t understand that sentence.
🔥The Strokes - At The Door Lyrics
🔥ua-cam.com/video/yRok4GcJWOo/v-deo.html
This is probably the best instance I can think of where the music video actually almost exceeds the importance of the words in the song. That's not saying the words aren'I impacting me with a force beyond comprehension.... but I just love this song.
Hi there :::Look up this underrated song - faceless humming by The Impures ::::::::::
Agreed. Most videos in music videos seem like random off the wall crap that has little to do with the song. Here they mesh perfectly.
Danny Gonzales sent me here. I want to know more about the aliens that walk on the stars and are apparently ascending.
The bridge scene with the robed figures is the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen.
Really? The resolution is terribly poor.
David Adams 😑
David Adams yeah I had that problem on mobile. Fine on iPad and pc though
@Rutger Thyssen
It just took me back to the days of VHS. Edit: cute with the higher mind quip.
@Rutger Thyssen
Nah, I'm a big boy. When you've lived to 50, some mud's gonna be slung. As an animation freak, and since this style is so reminiscent of Heavy Metal, I had hoped to see this beautiful vision in full clarity whether standard or vr.
THIS SONG IS LIKE THE STROKES AND THE VOIDZ HAD A CHILD AND ITS GLORIOUS
Not really. It's just a weak voidz song.
Beetlebum3 not weak just less chaotic
Yass
So a JC song, basically (which is fine)
It's definitely one of the most beautiful videos I've seen. Super stylistic. I don't think I've ever seen anyone pay homage to a very short lived, but artisicly influencal period of fantasy animated movies from 1973 to 1981. The hobbit, Watership down, Wizards, Fantasic Planet, lord of the ring, heavy metal. They are all very different, while simultaneously sharing a similar aesthetic. The animators knocked it out of the park. It's hard to believe they put this much effort into a music video......It couldn't of been cheap.
And I thought Human sadness was the breathtaking one.Another music diamond of Julian, deeply in love with his music again and again and again....
i wanna dedicate u this song - miss me by the impures
is a good song :DDDDVCVCV
Human sadness makes me remember all my lives man. An unreal piece of art forever
Everyone is talking about the music but not about the animation... Its so freaking beautiful... reminds me a little about Interstella 5555 (Daft Punk)
Heavy metal 2000
Watership Down. Look it up.
That melody on the synthetizer the first seconds makes you realize something timeless is about to start. Best song from the album.
CHECK OUT THE IMPURES "THREATS" SONG
It's a guitar made to sound like a synth, not actually a synth.
Best song of all time for me
@@thesearchforendlesseuphoria no it’s definitely a synth in the right ear. With a rlly quite guitar in your left. Especially the intro is synth
@@lebigfin5251 ua-cam.com/video/K9USppH_8eg/v-deo.html No, I know it sounds like a synth. But in that interview, Julian literally says it sounds like a synth (the intro), but it's actually Nick playing it using a digital guitar.
The fear of death in the eyes of a child, and the need to escape into fiction.
The title font shade of green just hits different than any color they could have chosen. It was a mystical and nostalgic shade of green from 70’s and 80’s cartoons.

When The Strokes play music, it just hit different lmao
B.A.M. Studios yeah bro it hit different and I am also laughing my ass off, thanks for the relatable comment
@@loversandlosers Thank you for replying that hahaha
Such a lockdown throwback for me
For the younger kids…watch Watership Down and Heavy Metal. Then watch this video. It’s a masterpiece. As an 80s kid this hits hard
2 days ago : " Hmmm, this is a good song"
Yesterday: " Wow im beginning to relate to this"
2 min. ago: "STRUCK ME LIKE A CHORD!"
Why is this SO relatable? lol
All of us: Dam, The Strokes is back
Alex Turner: omg omg omg AAAAA OMG xd
Alex Turner is me, I am Alex Turner
Why do you mean? They do a complete other style of rock
Still waiting for them to collab
i just wanted to be one of the strokes
@@Marzly In their song Star Streatment the first line is ' i just wanted to be one of the strokes'
Man.... this is a masterpiece..
The Celestial Procession scene just gives me this feeling of something so profound happening... it wrenches at my heartstrings and fascinates me all at the same time..
And the little brown rabbit... so sad what happens to him... but he gets away... changed from the experience.. definitely something from Watership Down.. and my dog just so happens to be a little brown pup so seeing him get hurt makes me think of her...
The Starmaiden gets her revenge but at the ultimate price...
And the poor boy... he left with death for a short time... only to realize he's been gone for years...
So sad... so deep... and so beautiful, all of it.
This is my favorite album right now.
i wanna dedicate u this song - miss me by the impures

47th time in a row
still gives me chills
"Daft Stroidz"
Iván Arózqueta pffffttt lol
Well Julian has worked with Daft Punk before
This is so damn true
Just what i thought. And im not complaining, but i wanted more "Stro" than anything else. Luckily, the other songs that they played live are much more "Strokes like". I just miss those guitars
You are a smart fella my friend, may Julian bless you from above
Anyone else still in disbelief that The Strokes have a new song.. in THIS DAY AND AGE 😭
I feel like I don't deserve this, like I'm being spoiled
Is this a Killers reference?
Amanda Teoh in this modern age?
Can’t stop replaying 0:59 - 1:34, the vocals are insane
not me going crazy over the watership down references!!! this is amazing!! thanks drew for mentioning this or I'd have never watched.
It makes me sad when the rabbit gets his face scratched
Redacted Jedi me too 🥺
Then definitely do not watch Watership Down which the rabbit sequences are based on.
