@Silent Sighs nope, i am 29 and a fan of them since Is This It. I happened to be a fan that respect their decisions and not being a dick to them if the directions they are taking are not to my liking. I like music in every aspect of it, the vocal or the instruments, if it deserve praise then i will give it. And i got nothing to complain here tbh.

    "At The Door"
    I can't escape it
I'm never gonna make it out of this in time
    I guess that's just fine
    I'm not there quite yet
    My thoughts, such a mess
    Like a little boy
    What you runnin' for?
    Arrive at the door
    Anyone home?
    Have I lost it all?
    Struck me like a chord
    I'm an ugly boy
    Holdin' on the night
    Lonely after light
You begged me not to go
    Sinkin' like a stone
    Use me like an oar
    And get yourself to shore
    Bang at the door
    Anyone home?
    It's just what they do
    Right in front of you
    Like a cannonball
    Slammin' through your wall
    In their face, I saw
    What they're fightin' for
    I can't escape it
I'm never gonna make it to the end, I guess
    Struck me like a chord

    Sinkin' like a stone
So use me like an oar
Hard to fight what I can't see
    Not tryna build
    No dynasty
I can't see beyond this wall
    But we lost this game
    So many times before
I been on a cold road
    I'll be waiting, yeah
I'll be waiting from the other side
Waiting for the tide to rise

Does anyone understand that video? I believe it's that story of the boy who was born and raised in the late 20th century. A typical example of "the future youth (as incarnating souls) will come from entirely different cosmic worlds than us", like Rudolf Steiner once told his followers. He witnesses how people -- his own human parents -- fall victim to demonical possession of the worst kind (Asuras) and tear everything, deep love built up in many years, apart, even destroying their own kid's cosmic heroine right in front of him. The kids brain gets destructed in a moment like this, but he yet has to live and later he dies in more modern times as a cosmonaut, because people of "the new abnormal" lifestyle are casual about the life of their fellow man and forgot to provide him with air out of lazyness or something like that.
Then there's the cosmic heroine. I think they should have used another image then she breaking those titanian chains, because no one is able to build up _that_ much PSI especially in that kind of a situation. (Lower minded people in the near, are restricting the use of PSI by nature. For example, it's nearly impossible to physically levitate among low-minded idiots, because minds always have the occult power to hold things as they know them.) is this in the future, and is the spiritual cosmic civilization destroying future Earth, because it became decadent?
Also the boy visits his old parental home as a sphere-human (=dead person). Then it transforms into the future: organic, self-sufficient cities in which the higher (minded) race will live in, while the rest, all the peoples of evil, the new human primates, will live their ape-like fates in the non-civilized wastelands. This will be in the mid of the 2000s.

I'm never gonna make it out of this in time
    I guess that's just fine
    I'm not there quite yet
    My thoughts, such a mess

    What you running for?
    Run at the door
    Anyone home?
    Have I lost it all?
    Struck me like a chord
    I'm an ugly boy

    Lonely after light
You begged me not to go
    Sinking like a stone
    Use me like an oar
    And get yourself to shore
    Bang at the door
    Anyone home?
    It's just what they do
    Right in front of you
    Like a cannonball
    Slamming through your wall
    In their face, I saw
    What they're fighting for
    I can't escape it
I'm never gonna make it to the end, I guess
    Struck me like a chord
    I'm an ugly boy
    Holding on the night
    Lonely after light
    Banging on the door
    I don't wanna know
    Sinking like a stone
So use me like an oar
Onto fight what I can’t see
    Not tryna build
    No dynasty
I can't see beyond this wall
    But we lost this game
    So many times before
I been on a cold road
    I'll be waiting, yeah
I'll be waiting for the old times

      --
Which makes sense as it calls back to
"Sinkin' like a stone. Use me like an oar. To get yourself to shore."
Which makes me believe this song is political in nature.
"Not tryna' build no dynasty. I can't see beyond this wall"
It was in fact premiered at a Bernie Rally 2 days ago.
But the beauty of songs like this is they can have so much meaning in so many different ways to different people though.

Based on the video, I like to think this is mostly about different relationships with death.
The boy is suicidal, the curse in the rabbit world seems to be inescapable, the aliens are transcending, and the space warrior sacrifices herself.
They are all met with death and deal with it in different ways. The turn to it, they run from it, they aspire for it, and they are honored by it.
A lot of deep feels in this masterpiece.
And "the door" is the unknown. The void. The line between life and death.
Even though these stories are very different, they are connected through life and death. Something inevitable for everything in the universe.

There is so much compassion and empathy and love here, God bless you all for having...hearts of gold....for I too am that way and my heart breaks every day for you, for me and for them. The pain on the rabbits face, almost hard to take because it seems like despair. The hardest part is sitting here helpless, watching it and there is nothing I can do to help him. I’m pretty sure all the different aspects were drawn by different artists, and each animation has a name (The Boy, The Rabbits, The Megastructure, The Celestial Procession, Cosmonaut 1982), and all are inspired by 70’s-80’s cartoons, animated films, and cult-classic fantasies (Watership Down, Heavy Metal, The NeverEnding Story).

Julian's narrative transitions began with the song "on the other side” the lyrics - “nobody’s waiting for me on the other side” and then - “i know you’re waiting for me on the other side” to now - “i’ll be waiting from the other side, waiting for the tide to rise”.
Julian sings a lot about death, I'm very interested as to how much influence Julian had over the music video if anyone has any insight on that.

The video is incredible, I've seen it several times and every time I find something more related to another.
I feel that the video tries to tell the story of a person in his death (2:20), that the first thing he sees is the death that hugs him and makes him see something. Where he returns us to the past as a child, where he lives a bad experience (0:20). Something interesting is that the rabbit in the video is himself (you can see it in his eyes) and the bad rabbit is the bad memory and leaves a scar in his past (1:46).
The cinematic of the super hero tries to show how he tries to overcome this last moment and accept it (3:50), death is the one who helps him remember the past, of course (2:47).
In the end he leaves everything behind. (4:44)

The hobbit, Watership down, Wizards, Fantasic Planet, lord of the ring, heavy metal. They are all very different, while simultaneously sharing a similar aesthetic. The animators knocked it out of the park. It's hard to believe they put this much effort into a music video......It couldn't of been cheap.

They wants to be used like an oar to navigate their parents troubles, while they struggle to come to terms with their terminal issues. I think that they are having difficulties because of the cannonball reference.
The kid feels alone every night, probably because they can't leave due to poor health conditions, and when they are banging at the door, the parents don't have the answers to the terminal illness problem

Anyone who enjoyed the animation in this should check out:
    Watership Down
    Starchaser: The Legend of Orin
    The Centurions
Anything animated based on the work of Robert Crumb
    Man, I'm old :D

This is also giving mad vibes from Moebius's comic The Incal. Granted it's not animated, but very, very incredible

With what I’ve found out in the last year, I just watched the video again and I understand all the symbolism. Extremely serious messages about our “reality” now & our inevitable imminent future demise. It’s amazingly constructed to leave it too cryptic for most. Hug your loved ones & make peace guys. Love to all the good guys out there, which is the vast majority, and always the biggest tragedy when they decide to cull us. Good luck everyone ✌️

The obvious old cartoon references (Watership Down, He-Man, Voltron, etc) just got the almost hopeless feeling of this song so well

I felt that The Strokes has been very distant over the past 7 years. Eventhough they did live shows, and even releasing the "Future, Present, Past" EP, somehow the feeling just wasn't the same... It's like they're present but was "absent" at the same time. And then came the Bernie Rally, which in my opinion was one of their best performances, and the crowd had a great time (with the crowdsurfing and getting up on stage etc.). I was watching the stream and for me, the peak of it was the "At The Door" music video reveal. Listening to it made me feel very melancholic. It felt like I finally found what I was missing all these years. "At The Door" made me realize how much I missed The Strokes and how they played an important role in my life. The nostalgic ambience of this song reminded me of why I was in love with The Strokes in the first place.
Welcome back guys :") can't wait for April 10th.

But you can see that in that moment he realized fear would not help him, it cannot help anyone of us. We must learn to gather our stengths to find ourselves out of bad situations. Be as brave as that defenseless rabbit. We are all here to learn my friends, be kind to each other and reach out to life, it will show us the right way. Be well :)

Legitimately one of the most beautiful things that I’ve ever seen. The part when the kid sheds a tear before embracing death...really hits home. I know many of us have felt like that kid. Unloved and unwanted. When that part of the video happened I just started bawling. Thank you for this you guys. It means so much to your fans.
