Honestly, I think the 2002 New Jersey Nets might've been better than what basketball "historians" tell us. I was only 2 when they went to The Finals so I obviously have no direct memory of their run, I just always heard how bad of a Finals team they were...but they went up against the Kobe and Shaq Lakers. Jason Kidd was absolutely a superstar with the Nets tho, that I know
Historians tend to not be much better than casuals, judging a team like the '02 Nets based on how they did in the finals and not their season as a whole. Those Nets were an OUTSTANDING team (bc of JKidd of course) who just happened to run into prime Kobe and Shaq. It happens, just like the early 90's Knicks: great teams that won't get any credit from the "experts" simply because every year they ran into some guy named Michael Jordan. Anyway, replace those two Lakers with someone like Latrell Sprewell and Alonzo Mourning (both great players but definitely no Kobe and Shaq), and the Nets win that series running away.
Most underrated carry jobs in NBA history is Jason Kidd taking the Nets to back to back Finals appearances as that team's only All Star. Everyone always remembers Allen Iverson doing it the year before in 2001, and they talk about how bad his Sixers team was, but unlike Kidd, Iverson wasn't even the only All Star on his team that season, Mount Mutombo was also an All Star for the Sixers that season.
@Manolo8988 Mutombo was an All Star that season (2001) for good reason. Mutombo led the NBA in Rebounds per Game at 13.5, while also chipping in 12 PPG, and 2.7 Blocks which was 5th in the NBA. *Contrast that with Kidd who at 6'4" had to lead his team in Points, Rebounds, Assists, and Steals during the Nets first Finals run.* The Sixers traded Theo Ratliff, who was also named an All Star that season, to acquire Mutombo from Atlanta, so they could make a Finals run. Mutombo would also make the All Star team with the Sixers the following season in 2001-02. Debunked.
Jason Kidd doesn’t get enough recognition, he unfortunately ran into the juggernauts of the 2000’s back to back years in the finals but he was just as good as Nash in his prime I just wish he would’ve gotten to the mavs a couple years sooner mavs could’ve actually won the 06’ finals if Kidd was on the team but at least he got himself one before retiring
JASON KIDD was robbed in 2002 No disrespect and well earned MVP for TIM DUNCAN.. but to be honest.. JKIDD was the real REG SEASON MVP that season in my honest opinion.
I watched this video to the end hoping to see a lot of Kenyon Martin highlight footages. I just got one alley oop.. 😁😁 Is he too small to play in the NBA?
A big turned around by the Nets Team from previous year. Who could have predicted that Jason coming from the Suns will revived the Nets after the Stephon Marbury Trade?
People forget how great Jason Kidd was
Yep
How is that? Kidd is a 1st ballot hall of famer
@@l.r9655he is never mentioned on all time PGs I’ve seen mfs put Thomas and nash over him
@SoggySlopster kidd is the all time assist leader in my books, i know Stockton has the most in NBA history but Kidds assist are just simply amazing
He’s in my top 5 PGs

True talk
They were a great team

This made me a Nets fan. My favorite team of all time and favorite player

Being an all star is by voting mutombo was far from his prime
The eastern conference was weak during the 2000s

Kidd was robbed of the MVP
They were a fun team to watch.

Jason also became a coach, but not for long either.
@@straitjacket7696 he’s doing a good job with the mavs so far
Better in my opinion he was a shooter
@@adams8847 debatable on that one imo Nash was almost a guaranteed 50/40/90 every year id say Kidd was a better finisher tho
nash is not better than Kidd.

I remember being 9 years old thinking j Kidd was the best player in the league, looking back I wasn’t that crazy
Jason Kidd is just incredible. Led an underwhelming roster to 2 Finals appearances in a row. Thank you J Kidd. I'm a Nets fan
Underrated
How did he get those Nets teams to the finals????CRAZY 😧😧😧
Weak eastern conference
Jason Kidd,
Dayum this team went back to back
Miss nba on nbc and it’s coming back soon
Pure class
Top 5 point guard all time at #5. 5x first team All NBA 4x first team All defense 5x assists leader
Why does one of the announcers sound exactly like John McEnroe ☠️

Kidd wasn’t no joke
No Kidd…ing

If only prime VC was on this team. They will be impossible to beat
too bad they met SHAQ in the finals otherwise NJ would had a chance
Point god. If that was russell westbrook ot would be a disaster
not as great as a coach but good job man
