In the finishing position, where you extend legs, what would I do if he drops to knees? I usually can maintain that position for a while by holding on the ankles but lose everything when I try to advance to the back.

If you have a good grip of the belt or hips for nogi with your hooks in tight they shouldn't be able to drop to their knees. And if somehow they do try keep your hooks in and extend anyway. Seems to work for me. Also it's way more painful if you drop to knees and they extend. Speaking from experience.
