Hey LBJ there was a Digimon game that ripped off Bounder, What was it? I remember Monster Rancher Hop-A-Bout being very similar to this but i don't remember a Digimon game ripping this type of gameplay off.
I consider myself a videogame connoisseur, but I've never heard of this game until now. Cool! Looking at the gameplay & seeing the potential for it holding up to today, I can see an indie developer creating & publishing a remake or making a brand new game out of the unique concept for modern day consoles. Thanks for doing this!
Growing up with the C64 as my computer of choice, Bounder and Re-Bounder were two of my go-to games of the mid-eighties for gaming fun. Tnx for the nostalgia-trip :)
I remember playing a lot of Rebounder as a kid although it could never replace my love for the game "Panther". That said, thanks for putting the "Action Biker" music back in my head. Here's to another day of humming it constantly!
I used to always play the obscure games as kid. So nobody would know the games I played in school, and when I got older nobody would have talked about them in such gaming videos like this (everyone would be talking about Zelda or Super Mario 64 and I'm like "what's that?") - except for your channel. That's what makes me really proud! It used to really get on my nerves
Hey, if you ever see this comment, there's a minigame that is based and inspired off of Bounder in the Bomberman Land Touch! games which came out at around 2009 I think. (I told you, I really do play obscure stuff)
Daniel Ibbertson How was it? Was it okay or not? The video was the only example though, and its usually a lot slower at the beginning lol. Really? A Digimon game? Interesting, I've never played that.
It's really nice to see you get the ball rolling (or bouncing...) in 2017 with a series you're fond of, passionate about, and I'd never even heard of. I'm used to learning things from your show, but it's usually not learning about the existence of an entire series of games. Awesome work, Daniel. Keep it up, and here's to an awesome new year.
I do like these vids on the more obscure British games. Never played Bounder as a kid. Was a Speccy kid through and through and I don't think Bounder was as all that known on the Spectrum. It's kinda sad how a lot of these older game series end up as mediocre mobile games or just floundering somewhere. Found out the other day that there was even a few more recent Repton games of all franchises. Great and informative video as always dude. I look forward to more of these obscure series.
I just recently found your channel on the recommended list after watching a couple of Classic Gaming Quarterly. I am glad to see all the series you've covered. There are a lot of personal favorites including Metal Slug and Golden Axe. My suggestion for next series to cover if indeed you are taking suggestions would be The Lost Vikings from Blizzard (Silicon & Synapse. Those games don't get nearly enough love.
Great vid as usual. Never heard of Bounder as a kid, first i heard of it was when the Gremlin guy gave an interview about the iphone game in Retro Gamer. I look forward to your Monty video whenever you get round to it. A Rayman & Sega Rally complete history would be great vids too.
I know this is old but I have to comment on that Amstrad keyboard. That thing looks absolutely neat. Here in the states our keyboards, computers, mice, ect all looked terrible by comparison back in the late 1980's and early 1990's. Question, am I seeing the Amstrad pull off scaling?! If so that's completely nuts man.
Oh! When I saw the box art for Re-Bounder, I realised that I own that on a compilation pack for the C64. One day when I pull my C64 out of the attic, I'll try out Re-Bounder!
Daniel Ibbertson the 10 great games I had my mum had to take back to software plus about 4 times so I think I had 9 great games, the game that didn't work was monty on the run, also on the game pack was jack the nipper 2 can't remember the other ones unfortunately most of my C64 collection has been lost leant to so called friends who sold and lost them, bloody cheeky barstards, also lost was my tape deck and a red and clear competition pro joy stick, very expensive these days
Interesting you did this video about Bounder. I never did play the original Bounder but I did play it's sequel Re-Bounder a long time a go. It came on a compilation title called Mega Games 10 games in 1 on 2 floppy disks for the Commodore 64. All ten games I had never seen before. I later learned that all 10 games on that compilation were never released in the US by themselves only on that compilation. Unfortunately it is long gone but a few other games that were mentioned on this video also appeared on it such as Jack the Nipper II, Thing Bounces Back, Krakout, and Monty on the Run to name a few. I would spend many a late night playing these 10 games on my Commodore 64. Interesting thing about it that it was published by Virgin Games. If you decide to do more videos of games released in the UK for 8-bit home computers I would love to see that.
Ah, Bounder... I had this on the C64, and I think I might have a copy still in my box of tapes. I don't recall getting past the second level, mind... but it was still a fun game from what I remember. I think I got it on a magazine cover tape. I recall seeing something somewhere ages ago mentioning "Rebounder", but I never actually saw any screenshots, just the name, so it's nice to get to see some gameplay footage of it at last! I need to go check to see if I actually have the tape of Bounder still... I wasn't aware of the mobile release till you mentioned it though.
One thing I'm beginning to notice about these older franchises getting revived, or "modernised" over the past few years or so is that their levels of success are highly variable!
a lot of these games make me really wish I had a home computer. Was much too little. Earliest PC I had access to ran Windows 95 so I missed out on a lot of neat games.
Got the Amstrad Boulder game in a Gremlin compilation & must admit i always wondered if it was bugged as i always ended up dying at the same spot. A couple of levels in id run into a large open gab & just loose all my lives as it would just respawn you right there one bounch from the gab. Or perhaps a special jump boost was missing or wrongly timed? Then again i could just be the difficulty. Must admit that lot of the games back then suffered from a too high difficulty.
Did you ever get to play the Pepsi Mad Mix games? I absolutely loved those PAC-Man-Esque games back in the day, but it seems like nobody else I speak to ever remembers them!
Nice video. I remmber Bounder well. I had both games on the C64 and, like you, preferred the original. BTW, you look nothing like how I pictured you would!
Did they work on Gargoyle's Quest (developed by Capcom as far as I know) as shown in the video or the Mega Drive game Gargoyles. You showed Gargoyle's Quest but said Gargoyle's so I'm just wondering which it is or if it's something else entirely.
Monty On The Run definitely needs a Remake. The Musik is one of a kind. No not the strange 2004 thing. A full pixelated one. I mean with pixelart. Or maybe I will do it just by myself... But if someone needs a legal Monty archive.org is your place. Yeah...sry for that random comment, but I love Monty's music ^-^
Woah did I catch a little glimpse of Miyamoto from Usagi Yojimbo? Neat! Anyways, cool vid as always, Dan. I love the videos you do on unknown franchises like this one.
I'm from usa and what is the best way to play the first two games? Also this reminded me a bit of a game on sega genesis (mega drive) call Trampoline Terror. A game I had as a kid and liked. And got a copy of it back recently. The game cart is a bit unusual in that the label is only in black & white. I don't think any other sega game ever did that?
If you're not the emulation type, then a C64 or C128 (Which can play C64 games) might be the cheapest option. An MSX will set you back quite a bit more than a Commodore. I'm not too sure about the availability of ZXs or Amstrads in the US. I'm told that C64s and MSXs turn up in thrift stores once in a while, so if you can grab an MSX for less than $100 then do it. Hope that helps!
Yes that helps some I'll look into it. Thank you! Worse case I'll have to emulate it. I do both emulation and real hardware but I do like to have the real thing regardless.
UK gets awesome stuff video game wise that usa will never see. Look at club nintendo back then. The mario kart uk only trophies, etc etc. Even The 3rd Birthday on psp got a limited edition up there. Wish there was still some hope for Parasite Eve 3 too.
And with this, I've seen ALL of your "Complete History" videos. One of the very best times UA-cam has to offer! Suggestion: "Another World" (International) / "Out of This World" (USA - SNES)... important developmental history, but perhaps going more into the works / mind of Eric Chahi would be illuminating to fans of your series. Here is a "Making of" video that was packed in with the HD Remaster edition (which I first watched when it was attached to my GOG.com Purchase): ua-cam.com/video/J0gv2bV9ok4/v-deo.html
I've always had a tendency to think of difficulty as, doable, difficult, I have better uses of my time but I'll probably keep going cos I'm an idiot and Battle Toads.
That would good news if so, id like to see more of this guy while at the same time seeing what new things they're gonna do with the idea. A really creative character with a really creative concept.
Most excellent video Sir, loved the original Bounder as a kid!
There was a Digimon game on the PS1 that totally ripped the game off too.

+Strain42 cheers buddy. Videos like this never do as well as my others but i still think its important to take the time to look into them.
Wow. Talk about a blast from the past. I completely forgot these games existed. I also only ever played the one and had no idea there were any more.
why am I so excited for a new video even when it's on a game series I've never heard one word about? love you sgr!
I do like these vids on the more obscure British games. Never played Bounder as a kid. Was a Speccy kid through and through and I don't think Bounder was as all that known on the Spectrum. +Mellow Gaming hopefully i can get another obscure one out at some point. However, i got a big vid cominv next week :)
Sweet. Will watch that once it's up.

So this is where the Virtual Boy's Bound High came from. Always wondered about that. Great video!

Rebounder was one of my favourite C64 games
Such an underrated game nowadays. I loved bounder, don't think I ever even got past the first level though!

+Ian Guebert so did i but the tape no longer loads it lol
God I loved this game as a kid! Addictive as hell.
Cool video. Blunder isn't a character I was aware of before - I'll have to check those games out!
Amazing i had forgotten about this game cheers for reminding us,i had rebounder on C64 on 10 great games ,rebounder being one that loaded well.
+Stuart J 1210 i had a dif 10 great games without this i believe
Daniel Ibbertson the 10 great games I had my mum had to take back to software plus about 4 times so I think I had 9 great games, the game that didn't work was monty on the run, also on the game pack was jack the nipper 2 can't remember the other ones unfortunately most of my C64 collection has been lost leant to so called friends who sold and lost them, bloody cheeky barstards, also lost was my tape deck and a red and clear competition pro joy stick, very expensive these days

+Played Up by Stormkeeper i wasnt aware either til i started researching it. Its ok!

ah thankyou for reminding me of this game. I spent days in this as a kid.
+Meady u are more than welcome
Slope, it would be really really cool if you managed to get interviews with bounder's creators. 😀👍
Great vid as always, thanks for all the graft you put in!
+thedee619 more ghan welcome mate :)
a lot of these games make me really wish I had a home computer. Was much too little. Earliest PC I had access to ran Windows 95 so I missed out on a lot of neat games.
Being a silly american, I had to look up what a boot fair was, goodness I have learned so much.
Another great video :)
Have you ever covered Dizzy? Those games were my childhood and early teens, so many good memories.
+Sonic Alpha the script is almost finished :D
Had it on C64 on pirate tape, loved music :)
Man, I'm so glad I subscribed to your channel! :D
+Adrian Fahrenheit me too :) i love it when u comment
Your video on Metal Slug was the one that got me hooked, it was really well researched!
That was the video that made me sub, loved it.
+Adrian Fahrenheit i love that metal slug video too :) one of my fav creations :D
+HAZARDOUS88 thanks bud :D
Great intro music, Dan, I actually sang the Weird Al version in my head before I thought of Madonna.
+tziirkq Like a suuuurrgeeon
looks like a mixture of Marble Madness and 1942

I used to play Bounder on an emulator back in the day (2014)
Wut? 2014 is not "back in the day"
Back in the day really qualifies for decades, you know, when you reminisce about your childhood.
Jamie Owns It does not.
Did you ever get to play the Pepsi Mad Mix games? I absolutely loved those PAC-Man-Esque games back in the day, but it seems like nobody else I speak to ever remembers them!
+Juganawt i have not. Might need to go check those out. Thanks
world of goo, its the game i play, replay and play again on any new device i get. computers, tablets. anything it can run on i play.
Nice video. I remmber Bounder well. I had both games on the C64 and, like you, preferred the original.
BTW, you look nothing like how I pictured you would!
+inphanta hahahaha please do tell. What did you expect
An Amstrad game that I missed back in the day! Still, enjoyed the video, love the Amstrad videos sir! How about a top 10 video for the system?
Crash Bugs would have been a great name for an early arcade game.
do you remember TRAILBLAZER for the Armstrad - that had some wild...er...faux sprite scaling!!
Huh! Had no idea about this series!
- Andrew
+JeggiTV hope ya like mate
Oh an I forgot al about this gem gonna have to dig out the Speccy versions and give a whirl, thanks for the memories! ;)
+Lawnboyspost1975 (The Home Of Dave) you are more than welcome buddy :D
Any thoughts on doing a complete history of Carmageddon? I love that franchise...well most of it.
+rosse119 yes actually i think that would be a good one. Gonna do twisted metal too
I had this and also Trailblazer on the cpc, which is kind of similar. I preferred trailblazer honestly
+garfunkle187 need to remind myself about tailnlazer
Bounder for Smash Bros DLC character.
Never heard of this game. Reminds me a tad of Mad Balls (sp?) - also, my ears detect Bubble and Squeak for CD32 towards the end.
Was just watching Family Guy (s12e11) and there was a character named DJ Slopes. Probably coincidence, but still pretty cool.
thanks for this
i had no idea what the hell bounder was

Had literally no idea what bounder was or is 😂
hey i watched your vids

I preffer a good boss fight but this still looks good enough : P
Dude you once mentioned you're into RTS games. You should make a video about your favourites.
+Shashank 235 yeah. I think thats a good idea
Sweet

fantastic video...
6:21 I'm sure shit like this is normal to an Englishman but when I saw it I laughed so hard my chow mein almost came out my nose XD
Seeing Kimble get annoyed with the game is hilarious! Ha, ha!
Never heard of the game but have to say for a tennis ball Bounder did pretty well.
Never even heard of this game... like a virgin... touched for the very first time.
+onaretrotip mike a viiiiiiiiiiiirgin...
Woah did I catch a little glimpse of Miyamoto from Usagi Yojimbo? Neat!
Anyways, cool vid as always, Dan. I love the videos you do on unknown franchises like this one.
Oooh that music just brought all back and more ooooh, check Andrew Braybrooks Linkdin
Nice Kim Justice cameo, heh ;-)
+Jomaster The Second hahaha kims great
Micro Computers! Yeeeaaaahhh
Bomberman would be a great but lengthy history
Is that "Like a Virgin" in the background?
Yeah it kinda sound like 8bit version of it.. Is Daniel a madonna fan.
you should do a game history of Gex.
0:07 is that usagi yojimbo?
Yes.
I wonder if bound high is the spiritual successor to bounder...
I'm from usa and what is the best way to play the first two games?

+Red Bemani emulation is defo the way forward mate. I cant think of any other mega druve games like that either, gonna go look that up
Yeah I would have to look up and see if Trampoline Terror got a release elseware myself.
Dj slopes can you go over the glover franchise please?
could you talk about the horace series on the zx spectrum
And with this, I've seen ALL of your "Complete History" videos. One of the very best times UA-cam has to offer!

this was a franchise??? I had this in Armstrad Aswell...
I've always had a tendency to think of difficulty as, doable, difficult, I have better uses of my time but I'll probably keep going cos I'm an idiot and Battle Toads.
90s IBM PC kids might probably be more familiar with the shareware ripoff Dschump.
Notification Squad
notificatoon squad!!
lol...in that photo you remind me of Clarkson...
8 bit like a Virgin is fly as hell.
Can you look at GODZILLA Video Games ?
8 bit Madonna music. that's a first for me.
6:26 is that Kim Justice!?
Róbbi Skæra He says their name in the video.
I watched the video, I must have missed that bit. Is it who I think it is?
It's Kimble Justice, yes.
I cant even find this on the android store.
+powerboyj roblox. Ahhhhh no way. They got rid of it. Tbf ya not missing much. Btw there is rumours of a new game coming next year lol
That would good news if so, id like to see more of this guy while at the same time seeing what new things they're gonna do with the idea. A really creative character with a really creative concept.
By the way, Any info on the removal?

What the crap is a "Bounder"?
I just finished watching the video. I now know what the crap a "Bounder" is. Looks like fun.
