    Great video! From the half dozen or so cantilever and regular scope mounts I've used, you only need to spend extra if you want a good qd mount. Midwest Industries makes my favorite qd mounts. For standard mounts you don't need to spend crazy money. 60 bucks will get you a wonderful mount that can take on tons of abuse. What you need to look for is solid hardware that comes with your mount of choice. Strong screws with a deep head torx pattern to help counter any kind of stripping both the screw pattern and face. I've seen people that have kept everything within torque spec and still strip screws because they're not working off of a solid vice. Even 20in ibs can strip a good screw if you're not making sure your torque wrench / screwdriver is completely vertical with the hardware.

    Great video. All really depends on your shooting. If you’re shooting past a couple hundred yards then yes it matters. I had an LPVO mounted in a Larue QD mount on a Scar 17 for years and loved it however once I started shooting at 400 yards with it I was getting inconsistent groupings so I marked the mount bolts and mounting position with a marker then notice after a range trip that the bolts were staying put but the optic mount itself was actually moving just a hair. Yes it was torqued down properly. I replaced it with a geissele one piece mount and that was better but that also moved over time. Eventually I coughed up the money for a Spuhr and that has not move. It’s been 4 years now and that mount is extremely solid and has not moved even a MM after about 6000 rounds. I’ve been extremely happy with Spuhr but man they ain’t cheap. I have 2000 yard rig now and run a Spuhr on a Schmidt and Bender 5-25 and if I do my part I can hit 8-10 inch groups on a plate at a mile. I have about 6 Spuhr mounts including a couple QD 4016’s on various rifles now and they do work well… buy once, cry once as they say.

      Dang I'm looking at the 4016 right now $575 though I'm debating on the leap for $400 seems like a bargain.

      @@jwill540 yea they’re expensive. Definitely a buy once cry once situation. I got all my Spuhr mounts back when they were between 300-450. It’s hard to make the leap from a good mount like a geissele all the way to the Spuhr cuz it’s literally Glock money. Oh also, the other ring type that I swear by is Badge ordnance steel rings. They are heavy but legit.

      They way I think of it is can I make one for that price. You have machines that cost $100,000 to start. Then you have the coolant and maintenance oils. Carbide tools to cut the material and tool holders which are $200 to start. Programming time and your time to produce it.
      Then you got the finishing anodize etc.
      laser etching etc

      Building cost
      Design/engineering.

    I'm running a UTG Accusync on my precision LR308 right now, and it's every bit as good as a high priced mount. I don't care what anyone tells you... I have a couple of monstrum mounts that have held up as well.
    I'm sorry, but $150+ for a scope mount is insane.

    • @rangetherapy8117
      @rangetherapy8117  2 роки тому +1

      I’m glad those have held up for you! I don’t doubt that they are holding up, but I think when using brands like UTG and Monstrum we start to see batch quality control issues. Also materials used plays a huge factor. $150 now could save you a competition title, that buck you’ve been stalking, or who knows, maybe even your life.

    • @BuckFoeJiden
      @BuckFoeJiden 2 роки тому +2

      @@rangetherapy8117 I get the idea behind the concept, I just disagree with it. I wouldn't dream of running Monstrum mounts on anything other than a plinker, but when you start talking about mounts like Scalarworks, Nightforce and Geissele, the cost is ridiculous.
      Most of my more rugged builds run with either Weaver or SWFA mounts, and I've had zero issues whatsoever. My general purpose rifle has close to 13k rounds through it, and the SWFA mounts on it have outlasted a 4150 barrel.
      The biggest thing I look at when it comes to a mount is what material it's made of. I typically prefer 7074 aluminum, but I'll run 6000 series if I absolutely have to. The Accusync mounts are made from 6061-T6 and at 5 ounces, as long as I do my part in installing it right, it's not going anywhere.
      I've never understood the desire for QD mounts on an optic. I keep the torx key to take my scope off in the field stuffed in either the stock, pistol grip, or duct taped to a bipod leg. I run backup Irons on all my ARs, just in case.
      Honestly, though, if your rifle takes a hit hard enough to shift POA/POI with 6061 aluminum mounts, you're going to have bigger problems... much bigger problems. Like, shattered lenses or warped scope body problems.
      The crossbars that lock into the picatinny slots are the only part of a scope that I'm super snobby about, but that can be fixed with a tiny bit of loctite under and around the sides before you torque your mount down, and it'll never move.
      Nothing wrong with wanting to have the best equipment, and I'm definitely not knocking anyone who springs for better scope mounts. It's just not a priority for me. I'd rather put that money towards a better bolt, or barrel.

      @@rangetherapy8117 I've been using this Utg on my lpvo for years and dropped my rifle a few times and still shooting quarters at 100yards with a Bearcreek barrel. People who spend so much on these things is just that, spending to much on these things lol...Also for them its just a bragging right to brag around their buddies. I've seen it many times and have outshot many of my buddies with expensive built rifles. Gets them heated that they spent so much and cant outshoot me with a $99 barrel with Tula .223 ammo. Went to the range the other day with my Bearcreek upper side charging on an Anderson lower with a Center-point Lpvo, Now buddy has a ballistic advantage 223 Wylde barrel with a drop in trigger and .223 reloads made for his barrel ect. It took him 6 times to hit the quarter at 100 yards, took me on the 3rd shot. Wish people would stop saying you cant shoot with less expensive things.

    The Burris Pepr mount is a good mount system as well. Very similar to Warne in quality and similar mounting. I do not like mounts that thread their screws into the thin walled lugs. Very stupid weak design. UTG does this and Aero so far I've seen, I'm sure many others do as well. One indicator of crap quality is low torque specs. The aero is 15 inch pounds. I picked up a aero ultralight mount some yrs back, and didn't really inspect it or question it, as was seeing all the hyped yt vids on it. Just got it out recently to mount a scope, and was amazed at the weak design. They don't even mention torque on or in box. You have to look for it online(also stupid). I wouldn't be proud of that spec and post it on the box either, probably wouldn't sell well at those airsoft/rimfire torque specs. They sure are over hyped. The UTG mounts do the same thing, thread into the lugs. The UTG mount would be a killer mount if would mount like the Burris and Warne. I plan on selling the Aero mount. I'm not going to even mess with it.

    People overlook Warne because they are “budget friendly”??? I have three of those Warne XSKEL mounts, two of which are QD, so WARNE absolutely makes these in QD. I consider WARNE XSKEL mounts to be top of the line, mostly because they are priced as high as a scope mount should ever be and they have every feature a top of the line scope mount should have and no crap making the price double and I honestly didn’t think a company was stupid enough to make a scope mount that cost over $400 and I certainly didn’t think the target consumer market could tolerate a scope mount costing that much. I’m not a poor by any means but bringing the cost of the $400 mount into perspective eliminates it for me. It does nothing to justify twice the cost, it doesn’t look like it costs $400+ so it can’t be shown off, and it’s half the cost of a budget AR or a third of the cost of a higher tier AR or half the cost of a Leupold VX-5HD and a quarter of the cost of a Colt Monolithic AR. Perspective is everything when it comes to cost in the accessory market and optics and mounts cost have yet to self correct. I understand the mount is made for PRS/precision rifles that cost $5k and I understand that the mount is made for $3k scopes, however those items have yet to cost correct as well. These manufacturers are making 1000% profit margins on these overpriced items and will continue to until people stop paying those prices. Kimber 1911s are a good example. 10 years ago you couldn’t find a Kimber 1911 for less than $1500 and now those same 1911s are $800-$1000 max out the door.

In the end they are all nothing more then a CNC machined chunk of aluminum and anyone can make a precision product with CNC
