  • For rappel transitions where one may wish to "pre-rig", the J Rig provides the ability to rappel without pulling your partner off of the ledge.

It's a nice idea and it works.
I used it with my son a few times but the knot gets so loaded it is almost impossible for him to untie it...

For rappels where the rope *just* reaches and I cant afford the length for the knot, how do you feel about stacking rappels but just leaving the rappel device on the rope? (not attached to the belay loop yet) I've done that a few times and wonder of there's a drawback I'm not seeing.

Clipping to just one bolt is okay?

In this case, I am actually clipped to both via the rope through the chains, blocked by my device pre-rigged to the rope. Now, this introduces the possibility of shock load, however I have chosen this bolt very carefully. It is immovable, no visible corrosion and is modern quality.

Wouldn't the knot be somewhat hard to untie afterwards in some cases? eg if the first person slips and momentarily loads the ropes a bit more or he's just heavy?

Certainly any knot strained enough will be enough to make it a bit annoying to untie, however given the girth of this knot with four strands of rope in it, I have not had any issues.

You can tie clove hitches in both strand separately or tie e non jamming knot like alpine butterfly to make loops
