- This is a Law Abiding Biker (LAB Media) Production. In this video we teach you step by step w/o skipping any steps on how to install detachable rider backrest hardware on a 2014 Harley Davidson Street Glide Special (FLHXS) or other Harley Davidson touring model.
You can use your 2009 and up Harley Davidson rider backrest hardware on your 2014 Harley touring model! It fits and mounts exactly the same.

a tip for saving some headaches ~~ a little painters/masking tape on the back side of a box wrench can help keep you from losing a nut in a "hidden" spot..
7 Years later and still helpful, quick and to the point. Cheers mate, ride safe.
I used a piece of strong duct tape on a closed end wrench to hold the nuts so I wouldn't drop them until they were started. It worked like a charm! You don't want to lose one in there unless you have a pet mouse that will go get it.
Thank you for this video. I just put on my backrest as a result. The instructions with the backrest weren't so clear when it came to the battery cover and the such, so I thank you!
Thanks for the video! I just picked up a 2015 street glide special, and your videos are already helping me out a lot. Good stuff
Good choice. That’s what I have! 🔥
If there is anything I want to do to my 2014 Street Glide I always check your videos first. Thanks and keep blazing the trail so that others may follow
just got an adjustable back rest that uses a cable to adjust. thanks for the video, now I understand how the seat mount installs under the seat. 2012 ultra classic. looking forward to getting it installed. nice video.
Finally getting around to installing one of these. Your video was by far the clearest and most straightforward on the subject. Nice job!
Awesome, thank you!
I just bought this backrest for my '14 Ultra Classic. I feel a lot more confident about installing it now. Thanks!!
Sweet deal! Thanks for commenting. Hope you are getting some riding in!

Thank you for this, it was very easy to follow and so much better than the written instructions that came with the product. The only problem I had was after installation, when I actually tried to insert the seat. I pinched the sides closed and inserted it through the slot in the seat but did not immediately find the mounting bracket, and the spring popped off! On my way to the hardware store to buy a magnetized extension tool to retrieve it!
+Michael Priebe The spring came off? Never heard of that. Did you retrieve it? Ride safe & Ride Often!

I didn't check all the comments, but a mention of covering those battery terminals when laying wrenches in that area would be advised....melting a tool on your bike would be a BAD day....you guys are so thorough that I am sure it was covered, I missed it somewhere!!

awesome!! Thanks!!!
This was great! TY....
Your very welcome and thanks for the feedback
I found I could put the two nuts on the front mount without taking anything apart above the battery etc. I used a set of large hemostats to grip the nuts and hold them in place to start screwing the two bolts in. Once they are started then I just used a box end to hold the nuts while I tightened down the bolts. Saved a ton of time during the install.

Any video on installing a back rest on a 2007 ultra classic? I'm confused where the bracket goes. Thanks
I know this is an older post but it was invaluable to me as I just installed the adjustable backrest on my new '17 Ultra Limited. A little tricky with the cable release mechanism but got it on and it works like a dream. Thanks for the great instructions and all of you how-to videos. Hey Ryan, I noticed that you didn't use any locktite. When I installed mine I used blue locktite on the support brace and the black bracket (4 bolts total). I did this because more than a few of my riding brethren have lost some hardware over time due to the vibration of the 103. Although its not required I'd highly recommend using locktite if for any reason just as a precaution.
Thanks for your Video, could you please tell me, does this back rest fold forward for passenger to get on and off ?? I'd like to know Before I buy it. Thanks,

Gday Ryan I have a 2014 rk with a stock seat and backrest will the backrest fit say a sundowner hammock or a deep bucket sundowner ? Cheers 👍
I’m having issues with installing the backrest itself, any suggestions?
Dude I was watching your Video and it was not bad,, The only thing I would change is the nuts and bolts on the lower front I would run the bolt up so that the nut is on the top and have a little better reach to it.... My Question is the chrome handle on your side bag.... Is that how you open it.... If it is that is pretty cool.....
Thanks for watching and being involved in the community!! Hope you are getting some serious riding in!!

Can anyone show me how to install the adhesive seat protector for my adjustable backrest on a 2015 Ultra Limited? The Harley instructions are confusing and have no pics or diagrams for this?
How's the stability on that backrest does it flex a lot when you lean into it?
I used blue lock tight on my install.
Sounds good Alberto. I like using lock tight too, but some people prefer not to. Really up to each person depending on their preference. Blue is a safe bet for sure. RK form LAB.
Hey Ryan,, on the back fender where you have those two bolts for mounting the back rest, what is that other fender hole actually for ??? The only think I could see it was for was sucking road dirt up and under the seat... if it's not for anything except maybe an opening for more wiring then I'm plugging that baby.... what do you think?.. DAWG from MO. also how about a update on the Shop Build...? Peace Bro....DAWG out.... one last thing Ryan,,, does this back rest fold forward for passenger to get on and off ??
I was hoping your Question, does this back rest fold forward for passenger to get on and off ??
would of got Answered. I need to know before I buy it.
Nice Video, But did not talk or show if Pad folded forward.
how comfy where it? Seem kinda small, dont know...
Seems like you could avoid removing everything by taking a box end wrench and covering one side of the wrench end with duct tape, so the nuts don't fall through, and use that to slide the nuts underneath and hold them in place until you tighten the bolts, or use flange nuts in a box end wrench which would have no way of falling out. Actually I like either idea versus me trying to hold a regular nut underneath and risk dropping it.

I just did this install. The kit came with flange nuts, so all I had to do was remove the cover bolts so I could have a helper pull up on the backside of it while I slid a box end wrench with the flange nuts underneath. Worked perfectly without having to disconnect any electronics!
Great idea to save removing those parts
Do u have the link to purchase the backrest
I have a mustang seat on my roadking 2015 thats sewn together driver and passenger sections, do I have to buy another whole seat just to have the opening between them?
Yes, Mustang makes them either way. They do not have a way to upgrade them.

The backrest doesn't go in that easy for me. :( Wish it was that simple to squeeze and insert. Maybe it's the seat itself.
Great video and instructions though. KUDOS!!
Tracie Cobb It takes some practice. I got good at it in time. Glad you liked the video. Ride safe & Ride Often!

Loctite ?
If you want
Why do u have a Diamond tattooed on your arm if your a law abiding biker?
Lks5350 It's a 1*, as opposed to a 1% tattoo. It means one ass to risk.
Very helpful, as the instructions really sucked
Looks like you were putting them on way too tight.
Thank for watching Cal M. Nope brother....not to tight at all. Ride on!!
