Lol. We get the Post-it each time we visit too. 😁 Did you guys skip the boulder scramble on the Charon Garden trail? Nice video of everything! Looked like a good time. 👍
Since it took us sooooo long to get to the waterfall, as we got lost, we just headed back. Plus the Ranger at the visitor center said it would be pretty slick because of all the rain and the caves were closed anyway.
The Refuge is not a park. Which means it's primary purpose is providing animal habitat. People camping is secondary. One of the primary goals was preventing the extinction of bison. In 1907, some bison were brought by train from the New York City Zoo to establish the herd. -- The Wichita mountains are very old and are the only east-west range in North America.
There is an area where there was a neighborhood. The houses are dilapidated. Rosevelt stayed in one. He is the be that decided it needed to be a wildlife preserve. They are going to tear those down. I’m sad. The animals already roam there. there
You didn't get to the 40 ft hole. There are waterfalls with 3 pools that empty into 40 ft hole. The area has high cliffs. Grew up there. We used to dive off cliffs into 40 ft hole. Take a drive up Mt Scott to get a panoramic 360 view. My grandfather worked on building that road. There's more to see in the refuge. Government has closed off much from public. Their reasons that refuge is for wildlife not tourists. I'm 70 and got to experience all the joys before the government started restricting access.
We did see 40ft hole but there were no waterfalls. They hadn’t experienced much rain. We also drove up to Mt Scott for the view, but loved the hikes more.
We were there in September 2024. They are making improvements. Need to go to Medicine Park. Little town with houses made of Big pedals
Loving that intro music, I can't wait to check out Oklahoma. Looks like yall had a ball!
Thanks! You will love this park

@@RoadtrippinwithTakacs we are too old to get lost in the mountains. We go with a group and watch the animals and eat.😆
