Star Wars Battlefront II (PC) HD: Best Mods & Maps: Mon Calamari: Battle of Dac

- WATCH IN HD! This is Mon Calamari: Battle of Dac, an older map by Galactic_Marine based on the titular battle from Genndy Tartakovsky's classic 2003 Star Wars: Clone Wars cartoon. Unlike other familiar battlefronts in the Star Wars universe, this one was particularly unique as it took place underwater. The clone troopers had to don scuba armor and found themselves up against the warriors of the Quarren Isolation League instead of Separatist Battle Droids, as a result it's pretty neat to see all of this translated over to Star Wars: Battlefront 2 in a fairly innovative way.
The map itself is put together fairly well, the layout is built up on several layers and broken up by Mon Calamari buildings and sheer cliff faces. An underwater effect is established by the misty haze all over the map, which does a pretty good job at giving a water distorted view. The reskins of the turrets, lights, and buildings from stock maps are all very effective and give the map a coherent feel. Command post placement is also very good, giving no side a particular advantage over the other.
Both sides have been retooled, the Republic side is now made up of various SCUBA Clone trooper units outfitted with different weapons including rocket launchers, sonic blasters and incinerators (water friendly?). The CIS side is now composed only of B1 Battle Droids, tooled with the same weapons as their Clone counterparts. Both sides also now have a new specialist unit, with a Phase II SCUBA Trooper available for the Republic and B1 Specialist Droid for the CIS. The SCUBA Trooper units are all equipped with jetpacks which allow you to float up through the 'water' which is an innovative and cool feature. Both these units are armed with rapid fire machine guns and a sniper rifle, a combo which does make these units fairly OP.
Both sides have new hero units, with Kit Fisto leading the charge for the Republic and a Quarren Warrior for the CIS. It would have been interesting to see the latter included as a MagnaGuard style unit instead of a hero, with perhaps a Mon Cal Warrior on the Republic side to balance it out.
Unfortunately this map was never seen to completion and as a result, there are a handful of bugs present. One of the biggest can be seen in this video, where one of the cliff walls can be passed through allowing you to fall through the map. On the smaller scale, none of the units or weapons are localised which clearly shows the map is unfinished.
Despite it's flaws, the map does capture the feel of the show fairly well and it's nice to see new models for the heroes like Kit Fisto and the Quarren. Go ahead and check it out if you like what you see!

look all I am going to say is this. The fact that we are modding this game and every mod is insane on its own, I don't know how this new battlefront will compete with the old one

Keep in mind that mods are only available to PC players. People on XBox and PS2 never got the chance to play mods.
A scary thought, I know. It's why I upgraded my BF2 from PS2 to PC ;)
A good idea would be to go back and revamp this mod. Give all units unlimited jetpacks with the bubble effect instead of jets, apply a filter to all sounds and the graphics, and done.
Agreed, it does still feel very unfinished. If the modder had gone back and fixed the bugs and added a few extra details it would be all the difference. Still it's a nice idea for a map nonetheless.

This should be updated to the new Clone Wars were it would have some of the characters from that episode. I also feel like this mod should change the gameplay a little where you’re like walking on the moon.

can you guys help me? i rember long time ago i was watching a video on star wars battlefront 2 mod/maps and there was map like between yavin 4 and kashyyyk in the map were caves, temple and the creatures from felucia and in the caves there was like brown wampa i cant rember the name of the map/mod i tried to find it but i cant pls help (sorry for my english im still learning it)

Looks like a pretty bad map, but it's an old one, so some of that is to be expected. I guess the only appeal, if there is some to be had, comes from the fact that it's modeled after a story from the old Clone Wars miniseries.
A fairly harsh judgement if you ask me, I've certainly played far far worse. There are quite a few positives to be had, the reskins for the stock assets and lighting are well executed. The new textures for the Clone units are fairly well done and accurate to the source material. The new models for the hero units have been made from scratch, which I can appreciate (although are far from perfect). It does require some serious polish though, it just feels totally unfinished in this form.
BattlefrontJDgamer Yeah, like Big Battle 1.0. That was literally the blank default map with only one playable class and one playable team, and the sound effects didn't even work for the fighters. (Yes I know the creator has come a long way since then.)
Agreed. I do think it's a good idea in theory, but requires a lot of polish, especially in comparison to many more modern mods which look really nice.
