Extremely impressive, it honestly brought the immersion of being filmed at least a couple decades ago until I saw the 6 feet apart sign at the very end.
There really is some indefinable quality of grain and light to film that makes my heart ache. It is almost like looking at the world I grew up in transplanted into an alternate present where history went differently and film remained a high art and a ghostly record of a very different and more human place.
I feel that. Film to me will always have a transporting quality, where as digital feels too close to reality. Not to mention that film will always capture colors more accurately because of it being a chemical process so there’s something to True tones instead of manufactured ones. Just my thoughts. It’s definitely my favorite art medium.
Stunningly beautiful! There is still no substitute for real film and a skilled cinematographer. Your Bolex is of course Super 16 modded. What a great format!
I love ektachrome especially on greens it always gets the best greens out of any filmstock, colors pop and are really vibrant and nice. I also love neon on signs or colors on signs on ektachrome they pop out and jump out at you.
Viewing this from Ireland (which has many beautiful places) but there's a majesty and bigger scale to the landscapes in states like Wyoming and Montana - and you make a great case for film - and not to overlook that it's the person behind the camera - "watching out for the light" - that's all important - well done !!
Thanks so much! I agree I’ve also been to Ireland years ago. There’s just some sort of charm the west brings with its huge landscapes and hometown culture. Film was a no brainer for this project because it needed a timeless feel to it! Thanks for the support.
Wow what an amazing little film! Everything is great: the compositions, the content, the sound and the music. It give the video a great and powerful mood. You really created a masterpiece! Keep up with your work, it's quite impressive! :)
Amazed at this footage, It is so beautiful I can't believe it. Just bought a 16mm and hope I can produce the same feelings in my shots. Great work man !
@@taylorwerfelmann I bought the krasnogorsk3 for quite cheap. I fell like its a good started for now as I have no experience with motion picture. You got an insta for your work btw ?
My girlfriend is a pro videographer/photographer and wants to start using film. She sent me this video and we’re inspired by the authenticity and personal touch that goes into film. We also want to see Utah and Wyoming like this. Thanks for posting
16mm film produces the most beautiful images I've ever seen. My dreams are in 16mm. If I could buy a pair of glasses that like, filtered my vision so that everything looked like 16mm, the only way they're coming off is when you peel them from my corpse.
I suggest scanning at a very high digital resolution, like 5k, and uploading it at frame doubled 1440p (48fps) if you want the film "texture" to be appreciable despite youtube's compression.
@@taylorwerfelmann nice! That’s what I have too. Any tips for metering / lighting for my first roll of film through my new h16? Do you just set the iso to match the films and meter normally like for 35mm?
@@HunterSkowronPDXsweet! Ya I do. I basically try to meter for the mid tones if that helps. That light meter especially can be tough to use because it’s not a spot meter. I take a lot of time and care to find the mid-tone and meter for that. Or try metering different light in the scene and then shoot it somewhere in the middle depending on what you’re looking for. I’m always overexposing when in doubt. Easier to save in post.
Hi Taylor, thanks for sharing these incredible places with us, you have chosen amazing lights too. May I ask you which film did you use it for? About lenses... maybe Switar Rx lenses? Thanks a lot, Francesco from Italy
Hey Francesco! I appreciate that! I’m glad to share it! I used Kodak 250D and 500T for the nighttime stuff. I forget the lenses. It was a rental camera!
Lovely video ! I really like the effect at 2:39 with the red and the blue, can someone please tell me how to do it ? Or is it just like a film glitch ? Thank you :)
I actually just rented it for two weeks. It was a Bolex h16 converted to s16. Check out brae hunziker, he has a great tutorial on UA-cam for shooting 16mm
Thanks Kami! I used premiere and my good friends “wedding lut” that he sells on his site called lutcompany.com highlyyy recommend it. I use the lut as a base for every project.
This was not just a travel film, This was a piece of art
Wow thank you so much!

I think it was around $800 but I can’t fully remember
Wow!
Makes me want to travel there
You should! It’s an incredible place!
The Bolex really has a nice image. It's a pity for the red flashes that look like light leaks from the sides. Magazine sealing problem?
It really does. And I’m not sure sure. All the images on the 500t had that but it was the last roll I shot on the trip so 🤷🏼♂️
Muy bueno !
