- A man struggles to survive in a harsh environment.
Shot on a roll of Vision3 50D and a roll of Ektachrome 100D with a Bolex H16s 16mm film camera. The shots in the final sequence were shot on a Sony HVR-Z1U camcorder. Used a Pan-Cinor zoom lens with a reflex dog leg attachment.
Thanks to Karey Larson and Loretta Couture for the additional help with the costume.
Shot in Mojave Desert, California at the Kelso Dunes.

these images are breathtaking, as a film student this has really inspired me to invest more in to locations
Thank you so much! Very glad to have inspired you, location is everything!
Fantastic location. Nothing beats being out there, and shooting on film. Well done; very enjoyable.
Thank you! Yes the location was everything with this project, such a cool spot!
Very impressive. From the style to the sound. Everything is very precise. A very difficult task to pull off indeed. Kudos!
Those sunset shots at the end are 👌
This was one of the coolest shorts I’ve seen! Awesome work!
Thank you!!
Amazing work! The shot at 0:52 is absolutely mesmerizing.
Low light/sunset stuff looks fantastic. Really great short
@WhiteTreeMovingPictures thanks appreciate it!
nicely done
Beautiful! Love the look of 16mm.
Beautiful! Just Love this.
Fantastic!
Love this!
This was great!
Thank you!!
In awe of your efforts, so concise and lovely.
You nailed it.
Fantastic work - truly incredible color work, shot choice, camera movement, ah! everything. keep it up please
@@AndrewMendoza-et6ho thank you so much! Means a lot to hear
This is masterpiece indeed. Great shots and location, ( and I just love the look of the film roll) it is a banger, one of the coolest things I saw on this platform.
@hoonigaster thanks!
That was great! 16mm is such a gorgeous way to capture the feeling created here. You clearly know how to use the medium well. I love the idea of the digital switch at the end...very inspired trick...
Thank you so much!
You ARE UNREAL -- This is amazing!
Thanks!
Awesome work man!!
Thank you!!
Honored to have been apart of this masterpiece
Thank you Sllew
"Masterpiece?" Calm down.
A nice piece of film work with some impressive shots. Other than how-to videos, I would take something that looks like this over almost anything shot on digital. I'm envious. Great job!
Very well done !
Beautiful!
@@r2d2rxr thanks!
this is amazing
Just wow
Cute! BTW, I like the unknown fiber or hair from the 2092 at the right bottom corner!😄
Beautiful
Amazing.
This was pretty cool. I haven't seen anything like this on UA-cam.
Thanks! I appreciate it!
@@finnbenischek3170 For sure! It'll be cool to see if you shoot more film! God bless!
Great work!

MASTERPIECE!!
Thanks! Appreciate it!
@@finnbenischek3170 Very welcome! Mad Max would be proud, hehe. I'll be re-watching this a million times, it is So Great. Thanks for sharing it, my Friend. Wishing you Happy Holidays and New Year. Carlos from Detroit
"Masterpiece?" Grow up. It was a nice little project. Thats all.
Nice work!
@@nkosiroma Thanks man! Big fan of your stuff, can’t wait to see your new film!
Very well done 👏. Very engaging.
Was low key hoping to see a giant sand worm jump out toward the end.
Thank you! I wish I had some way to have done that hahahaha
Stunning!
Well done. Love to see it (Even though were experiencing it through digital!)
Amazing bro
Still in awe of this
😘
Man I really love Ektachrome..
Film!
amazing
Nice!!!!
These reflex lenses (Angenieux 71-68mm?) are VERY hard to find. How did you get that?

This is the lens that I used. Pan Conor c-mount 17-85 with reflect attachment
Dude this might be the sickest thing I’ve seen shot on 16mm on youtube. You perfectly captured the vibe from the original Mad Max. This just proves to me that a feature film would look incredible shot like this.
Did you shoot sound speed on this? Or was it all added in post?
Thank you so much!! All sound was added completely in post, although we did record a few wild sound effects on location.
Dude this is a huge inspiration to me. I've been wanting to shoot on film so bad but I got scammed out of a KG-3 on eBay almost a year ago lol but when I get either a KG or a Bolex I hope what I make is even a quarter as good.
Maybe an unexpected question but how do I go about making costumes look realistic? I plan on making a cyberpunk type short film soon and I need a similar utilitarian look to your main character
Thank you so much man that really means a lot! I'm sorry to hear about you getting scammed out of a camera thats awful!! For the costumes I would say always start out by looking for used clothing to start filling out the costume. For this particular costume all of the cloth and such that he is wearing were purchased at a goodwill, including the box "backpack" on his back. The backpack straps were made of belts from goodwill as well. Once you have everything, if you want to make a gritty costume like this, I'd recommend further weathering everything by dying all of the bright colored components in a mixture of very dark instant coffee and black tea, soak everything for a couple hours and it should get a nice weather tinge to it. The only thing that was brand new in this costume were the goggles which i purchased off of temu for 4 bucks, which were also weathered in the coffee tea mixture and scratched up with a razor a bit to add scratches and weathering. Just think of ways you can add depth to a costume and have different layers!
Great!!!
Great job! The locations are fantastic, and the lighting wonderful. How many rolls did you go through to capture this? And how many days?
Thank you! I went through 2 rolls. Arrived to the location around sunset, walked up the dune for the sunset/night shots before dark. Got up the next day at about 4AM and walked to the top, shot all the day time shots during sunrise and before noon. We were back down at about 11AM to our cars. So in total it could have been done in one day, but we shot on two separate days. I switched from the 50D roll to an Ektacrhome 100D roll on top of the dune on the second day.
That's nuts that you got all of this on just two rolls. You must have really nailed the preparation!
@@rustyshackleford4728 thank you! Yes I storyboarded most of it and had a pretty good idea of the exact shots I wanted!
Nice
This one goes out to Slew Granger, the world may know his ending but they certainly do not know his story
Amen
How you convert to digital format?
Oh my wow
wow just wow
old dune vibes
what was your budget for the film stocks and development?
This was shot with two rolls of film, costing me about 200 USD in total. Including processing and scanning.
Was It a berthiot lens? Which one? This looks amazing!
Yes it was! Som-Berthoit pan-Cinor 17-85 F2.0 I believe, with a reflex attachment.
@@finnbenischek3170 Oh thanks! I asked because I have that exact same lens, but I haven't had the chance to test it yet! I got excited with the quality of the lens displayed here! Great work!
I've been thinking of getting this lens and this totally sold me
if you dont mind sharing, what locations and parts did you film the 50d and 100d in?
@@atomicbotprod5501 everything was filmed in 1 day in the Mojave preserve in California, specifically at a place called “Kelso Dunes”
damnn... This is so cooll.
Thanks man!
