These are my boys, my absolute favorite band since 1997. It was Korn from 1995-1997 but when I heard Jonathan talking about "Chino is a god, dude" I checked these young bucks out. I checked out Adrenaline and then Around the Fur and that was it. Then White Pony came and my mind continued to be blown. I'm 52 now and I will never like another band more than Deftones. They are everything I want in a band.
Most consistently listened to band for myself over the last 23 years as well, plus I love all of Chino's side projects also. Team Sleep was great and Crosses are killing it, their latest album is well worth checking out if you haven't.
Crazy part about that is Deftones are WAY older than Korn haha, I got a hold of a bootleg tape of them sometime before the first album, seems way before like maybe 89 or 90 and was blown away, actually right around the same time I got a Janes Addiction one, some random stuff, the sounds were like nothing I had heard before.

Deftones were a local Sacramento-area high school band started around 1988 (my senior year) and Korn didn't yet exist and wouldn't for several years. But if you look at when each band's first real album was released, Korn was first (1994 vs 1995 for my boys). This is because Linus didn't really go anywhere. Not to mention, the effect that Korn had on the national scene was just FAR bigger than Deftones. I love Adrenaline, but it's not hard to see why it didn't blow the world's face off like Korn (self titled first album) did. As for band frontmen, again, I told you Deftones are my favorite and I love Chino like you wouldn't believe, but OBVIOUSLY JD was a f--king wrecking ball where people were like "WHAT...THE...FUKKK...is this??" when they not only first heard him, but first SAW him and his stage presence. That dude is a phenom too for sure. Korn truly changed metal forever. There is no denying that. WAY more Korn copycat bands in the late 90s than Deftones copies.
