And why hide a bathroom. So lame. People will find out about it as soon as they need to pee. Not so secret then, is it. I want an entire basement, hidden with a passage that won't be easy to find
+Makeup with Kokerface Because, some people like to make people believe they do not defecate. If someone has to use the restroom at your house, just say, "I don't have a toilet, for I am a god," or somethin' like that.
James, Thanks for your kind words! The key to MDF is treating the edges with care. We prime them with a non-water based spray can (Kilz Alcohol based), then fill the edge voids with Bondo. Hope that helps. Best, Matt

I see like two comments marked as spam who are not spam...but yes these doors are so easily visible that i could find those doors in the dark. Especially if i was told that there where hidden doors within the home. The point of a hidden door is to make it hidden in all areas, this means it's important to hide the seems, it's close but there is a company that does better.
you put bathrooms behind the hidden doors? what a waste of potential, the point of hiding something is for its value, why would you hide a bathroom who exactly are you trying to protect it from
Yep. Sugatsune hidden hinges are a dream for finish carpenters to work with. The other main company, Soss have a hidden hinge that's been around for I believe 80 years or more, basically unchanged. The challenge with the traditional Soss hinge is that mortising depth needs to be absolutely "perfect" making the fine tuning process very tedious and also making future adjustments.
in my opinion the most important door inside the house was the one in the stairs. so incase of someone getting in kids can hide there and its not noticeable that its a door
Genius way to block off the toilet area from the master bath. I was trying to figure this out and mentioned a hidden door. We are moving the toilet and sink into the closet for a large bath/open shower. Thank you!
I thought about putting a hidden door on the front of my first house. I was sick of solicitors leaving flyers on the door handle. A hidden front door would have solved the problem. :)
Thanks. We have a modern minimalist house and are working with the remodeler on a "hidden" door that would be an entry to the pantry. He suggested a series of vertical "lines" to hide the seam but looking for other options.
The first space under the stairs is awesome . It blends in very well and the others are nice idea but would look much better with boards running vertical instead of horizontal ! just my 2 cents tho !!
The doors are awesome....until the lights go out, and you gotta take a shit! "Where's your bathroom again?" "It's down the hall, the rest is up to you!"
Again, unbelievable craftsmanship. Who doesn't love a hidden door or at the very least something more original than a standard door. I wonder though. How do you lock the doors that need to get locked like bathrooms?
That first hidden door truly is hidden. The wood ones where immediately obvious. The ship lap needed to be cut matching length of intended door if you really wanted to make it look natural. Cool ideas to certainly take into account.
The white hidden cupboard was just that, however the unpainted wood panelled doors weren't hidden. The outline of the door is plainly visible for everyone to see.
Beautiful home but not really hidden doors because I can easily make out the seams. I knew where the doors were before you ever opened any of them. The only one I didn't call was the one under the staircase.
Hi Matt: Love the video blog, I watch every episode. I have a question about treating the edges of the MDF hidden panels. It looks really clean, nice sharp edges. Do you know how the craftsmen treated the edges of the cut MDF panels to accept the paint in the same way as the panel faces? I hear lots of theories about using drywall mud or special primers, perhaps you can let us in on your (their) method for these panels. Thanks
Imagine a guest comes and asks "Where's the bathroom?" "Over there" They walk over to the place the owner instructed and only see a wall "Um I don't see it" Oh it's there
the staircase one is the only one done well. the rest look absolutely obvious as it get. you should put a hidden window and a hidden door knob on those doors. and by hidden I mean completely visible.
Are they kidding, I saw them before he told us where they were. You can see the lines around the door. To whom is this concealed, a BLIND MAN. They have to do a better job than this if they would get my business.
R It might depend on the lighting in the room, though. If you notice, he kept opening doors to add lighting, and the camera's light helped, too. With someone who wasn't expecting trap doors like that, they might skip over it without ever knowing it was there.
Panda Yes he did and i am sure it took a lot of work to make these doors like this. And the price lol Yea I just wonder. I'm sure it's not gonna be cheap.
The coolest thing here is that they made the toilet in the master bath separate, in many other examples of expensive baths the toilet bowl still stands in the middle like a throne...
Hi, What you have done is amazing, I have been trying to find someone who could do that at my home but everyone I speak to doesn't quite understand what I mean, If you ever plan a trip to the UK please, please let me know.
that first door under the stairs was hidden nicely, but I could see the lines of the others, so they weren't hidden that well, but I think that is because of the horizontal boards, you cant really get a good hiding like that unless you can stagger the boards like you would on a deck or a wooden floor, now if those boards were vertical you would never know the doors were there.
Good point. These are meant to be more as a feature than as a true "hidden" room. The three doors we're talking about goto a powder room, master toilet, and laundry room. Not exactly a high priority to totally conceal. Best, Matt
The human eye easily spots the aligned cuts/joints, and most people will realize that a pair of vertical slits within a few feet of each other mark the presence of a door or movable panel. The door below the stairs camouflages those seems, and it is the only one that succeeds in being truly hidden.
I know I guess I'm freak for detail. Here in Michigan our address numbers have to be at least 1/2" thick, 3" tall, no more than 6". Lol. That is a cool door though. Be blessed Bro. Lol just pulling your chain
The most important point to note about hidden doors is that they should be easy to spot and they must only be use to hide bathrooms to keep your private things secure as you can see above. Lol
With the crazy clay dirt we have here in Austin, the house settling will be sure to ruin those "flush" lines after a hard rain. Nice craftsmanship, though.
Nice one Matt.. Q? Just bought a house unfinished basement I just want to paint it for now .. What would you recommend.. New construction, Just wanted clean it up down there & paint walls and floor ..Thanks
Nice craftsmanship, but hidden doors are fun when they lead to interesting places. I think hidden bathrooms could get more annoying for guests than cool
I like the staircase one but the rest are way to easy to spot.
that one was easy too
And why hide a bathroom. So lame. People will find out about it as soon as they need to pee. Not so secret then, is it. I want an entire basement, hidden with a passage that won't be easy to find
Makeup with Kokerface
YES YES and YES. I want that so bad. A whole entire house underneath the house :)
+Makeup with Kokerface Because, some people like to make people believe they do not defecate. If someone has to use the restroom at your house, just say, "I don't have a toilet, for I am a god," or somethin' like that.
+Mihoshika Furude hahahaha that's hilarious! 😂🙈
should have made the wood panels vertical then it would completely invisible
He couldn't have
yes he could
MAT T,
If the builder would’ve incorporated a recurring pattern of vertical 1/8” scored lines, problem solved.
If he had done vertical paneling there would still have been lines from the top jam.
Yup..but the construction is sweet
James, Thanks for your kind words! The key to MDF is treating the edges with care. We prime them with a non-water based spray can (Kilz Alcohol based), then fill the edge voids with Bondo. Hope that helps. Best, Matt
“Totally flush when all done” ....I see what you did there at the end. Subtle Bathroom humor
I was wondering if anyone else caught that. The funny thing is, I don’t think he even did it on purpose.
You need to use the restroom badly??
WELL YOUR GOING TO HAVE TO FIND IT
lol true xD
😂😂😂😂
lmao
no
xD

lol yeah
...hidden isn't the word I'd use here...
more like easily visible.
I'd use " NOT OBVIOUS" doors
I see like two comments marked as spam who are not spam...but yes these doors are so easily visible that i could find those doors in the dark. Especially if i was told that there where hidden doors within the home.

I'm not, it's called criticism.
Amber Locked
Sorry but that's not possible to my knowledge of this site. Nice try, do attempt to mature a bit more, it'll help you greatly in life.
saruto715
why wouldn't you put the panels vertically to actually hide the opening of the door.... none of those wooden doors were hidden..
Loz because the hiding doors were put after the house was build
NestleLikesYou they took the paneling off and then put them back up, they could've made it vertical
cause you still would have a line , only it would be running horizontally instead of vertically
Nicolette Sans
Vertical would look horrible
nedthegreat6 unless the door would go completely to the roof
I added a link in the description above to the two hinges we used available on Amazon. If you buy through that link I get a referral fee. Thanks! Matt
Excellent craftmanship !!well done.
+Dmitry Ivanovs thanks!

you put bathrooms behind the hidden doors? what a waste of potential, the point of hiding something is for its value, why would you hide a bathroom who exactly are you trying to protect it from
this literally killed me 😂😂😂
in case of the purdge you can use the bathroom
It's to the master. Why does everyone have to know about it? :P
They could hide stuff in the bathroom though * - *
you can take a shit during hide and seek.... SIMPLE!
I had the volume kinda low and thought he said "ricer homes". I'm picturing chrome trim on the chimney and 22'' rims for windows.
And a big spoiler on the back door.
wow this guy has favourite hinges
Himanshu D 🤣
Lol I'm the type of person to have favourite hinges

in my opinion the most important door inside the house was the one in the stairs. so incase of someone getting in kids can hide there and its not noticeable that its a door
Very creative! Guests will be confused trying to find a bathroom. lol "Yea, it's the door on your right.. " "What door on the right?".
that hidden closet in the stairs is needed in case someone broke into the house..you can hide right there..
that's what I was thinking
So I watch this and I am totally amazed for no reason. Thumps up! xD
Thanks. We have a modern minimalist house and are working with the remodeler on a "hidden" door that would be an entry to the pantry. He suggested a series of vertical "lines" to hide the seam but looking for other options.
I wouldn't call them hidden doors on the bathrooms maybe if you had laid the ship laping /paneling vertically
those are not hidden at all. saw them before he mentioned them
the stair door is pretty well hidden
Spencer Cartwright nope, I saw the seam in the door instantly.
Shadilay McKek well congrats
Maybe cause it was in the thumbnail...
Would be great if someone tries to rob you or if your going into hiding
Well you better only hide under the stairs because the others were crap.
+ROBERT BUTLER ouch.
+ROBERT BUTLER shut up I bet your house Isent as good
Exactly what I was going to say
+Matt Risinger I bet el chapo Guzman will take this video as the next escaping project 😁😁keep up the good work don't listen to haters ✌

Harry potters bedroom.
Yeah
2:22 That painting is beautiful.
best hide and go seek house EVER!!!
I love the ending how that bathroom is "TOTALLY FLUSH WHEN YOU'RE ALL DONE." Ha ha! Potty humor.
Great fireplace skylight! The first hidden door has a nice interior symmetry when open.
*Sugatsune* & *Soss.* -- Nice applications!
The doors are awesome....until the lights go out, and you gotta take a shit! "Where's your bathroom again?" "It's down the hall, the rest is up to you!"
Idk why but at the beginning I thought this was Keith from Buzzfeed.

Friend: "Can I use your bathroom?"
Him: "Yeah sure. Just go push on that wall over there" lol
I wish there were more videos per week.
Nice work
You're really trying to make it hard for your guests to find the bathroom! Haha! LOVE IT
The white hidden cupboard was just that, however the unpainted wood panelled doors weren't hidden. The outline of the door is plainly visible for everyone to see.
*casually whistles Hedwig's Theme*
badass.. this is cool.great craftsmanship i've always wanted to build a hidden room,
lol when i saw the one under the stairs i was like OMG YOU FOUND HARRY'S ROOM!
I haven't watched a single harry potter movie or even read a book but i thought that too. :D
Le Bo2 ProM8

Beautiful home but not really hidden doors because I can easily make out the seams. I knew where the doors were before you ever opened any of them. The only one I didn't call was the one under the staircase.
bugs181 you can still see the seam on that one too
bugs181 same they’re not really that hidden
I love these hidden rooms and doors, it is so interesting

more likely they say over there and they walk over and doing the quotation fingers say "nice secret door" open it and use the BR.
the staircase one is the only one done well. the rest look absolutely obvious as it get. you should put a hidden window and a hidden door knob on those doors. and by hidden I mean completely visible.
How about a hidden sign that says "this is a door"
Maybe a welcome mat too

A cupboard under the stairs? Revolutionary. What else ya got?

yes
Yeah

When there's a vertical crack running down some horizontal panels it's not difficult to figure out there's a door there.
The human eye easily spots the aligned cuts/joints, and most people will realize that a pair of vertical slits within a few feet of each other mark the presence of a door or movable panel. The door below the stairs camouflages those seems, and it is the only one that succeeds in being truly hidden.
this house is beautiful
How do you lock the bathroom door?
Really nice looking house
Sky lights around a chimney LEAKS!! I'd put money on it!!

Nice! Good crew man.

AWESOME door hidden 💕😝😜
That's like a real life Zelda video game! Those secret passageways r everywhere but hidden out of sight, waiting to be discovered.
I see the woman is in her proper place in the kitchen. Nice work. It's hard to get them to do their jobs these days
i love it! it's very cool. but I think the second door should have been a bit thicker to match the walls thickness
Me: *walking past the wall*
*hears toilet flush*
1:15 I'm surprised Harry Potter isn't there! 😂😂😂
Its probably more practical to make a panic room instead of a secret bathroom. IT LOOKS GREAT THO
I want a house like this

good luck finding the bathroom
Now these hidden doors are no longer a secret.
you don't know where the house is
I know I guess I'm freak for detail. Here in Michigan our address numbers have to be at least 1/2" thick, 3" tall, no more than 6". Lol. That is a cool door though. Be blessed Bro. Lol just pulling your chain
Nice designs! It always amazes me why social media spurns so many thoughtless and bitter comments from so many?
"Where's the restroom?"
"Down the hall to the right, good luck."
This guy loves his hinges.
Honestly that's a cool house
That spring hinge shut was awesome. Why aren't all doors like this?
The most important point to note about hidden doors is that they should be easy to spot and they must only be use to hide bathrooms to keep your private things secure as you can see above.
Lol
That will be a great hide and seek spot
That is very good idea. I want make hidden door too
love the house bro
why would you hide your toilet? I can imagine that some of your visitors werent that amused when it is urgent :D
"Anytime you got horizontal paneling, it makes it really easy to do a hidden door."
Just wait until he discovers vertical paneling.
How do you close the doors without pinching your fingers
Nice craftsmanship, but hidden doors are fun when they lead to interesting places. I think hidden bathrooms could get more annoying for guests than cool
