Thanks so much! Bundling is awesome for lot's of different things you sell - books, DVD, CDm Toys, Games and even clothes :) More value for the customer and more profit for us!
Excellent reminder on two points. 1. You have to get stuff cheap, really cheap. 2. Lotting by author gets your average sale up, and drives profit per sale. I rarely sell one book at a. time, it has to be first edition, vintage, and something special. Just sold an 18 book set of Time Life books (which I usually avoid). Paid $8, sold for $79, buyer paid shipping. Weighed 46 pounds!! It would have taken me a long long time to sell individually. Maybe I would have gotten $8 each, but I would always have left overs, and each transaction might make me $4 after fees. No thanks!
You have to think of what the buyer wants in business and take out what we think they want and take emotions out of it. And at the end of the day the buyer wants value! It's really annoying if you read 1 book in a series and then have to wait to order the 2nd book in a series to arrive so it makes sense to bundle them up where possible. And if people like a particular author, they often read the books fast and are waiting for the next book so bundling authors is great for both the buyer and the seller :)
I sell him often and always have books of his in my store. I do try and sell a mix of bundles and individual to appeal to different customers but I prefer to sell in bundles :)
Wow, bookselling is a lot different where you're from. I couldn't get those prices for brand new books on eBay in America if i held a gun to people's heads. The economy is terrible over here.
Thanks for the info! I am not a reseller but I have a lot of personal books that I'm trying to sell. I had bought 30ish books in the same topic and lost interest before I even opened the cover of most!
Glad it was helpful! Bundling is really great and also helps moves multiple books at once! It's the same as with items like DVD's - they are also great to bundle
That’s a good point. I collect books, and buying them by the “lot” saves me money and, apparently, earns the seller more money, too. 🤝 It also allows the seller to include some books in not-so-good condition with the lot, but I’m usually still happy with the price. I’ve always wondered why sellers won’t just sell me one or two books out of their lot, now I know!
Yes, and also the time once it's been processed, photographed, stored and listed. Breaking up a lot then involves removing a listing, making a new listing for not only the buyer requesting the change but for other book that has been left after the split. So normally as sellers we prefer to be working on new listings then mucking around splitting up books again. Thank you so much for watching!
Hey Mel 👋👋👋 How to do track large volumes of books that you get in a single haul? Example, you get 100 books for $50 (expensive I know but maths isn’t my strong point), so that’s $0.50 per book. You give it a SKU, list it and place it on the relevant book shelf awaiting a sale. You may not list the entire haul at once so how do you know what you paid for each book in a haul and how much profit you made from each book from what it sold for? What if you put a few books aside to bundle or make up full sets? I hope that makes sense, I just can’t get my head around it. On your spreadsheet do you just do average cost per haul or do you catalog every single book on the spreadsheet? Also when storing them how do you know the costs you paid for them? Do you add your own stickers, do you add it to the SKU or do you just track costs in vs costs out?
Couple of important points you missed. On bundling you may be the only seller with that particular bundle, so thats a rarity for any buyer who wants those particular books so you can price high. When selling individual commons there is bound to be a heap of sellers selling identical books for way less..ergo you get involved in a race to the bottom. This is before you even consider a listing is the same effort whether its one book or 5, with 5 individuals being 5x the admin and shipping effort of one bundle of 5 I try to list series eg trilogies etc rather than standalone books, as buyers dont just want any book by that author they want the next one in the series, that cuts down their options (your competition) Selling high volumes you qualify for top tier volume discounts via Mypost, which applies to all your parcels. Even over only 100 items that could be $200-$300 profit from postal discounts before you even start. So its important to get your turnover into top tier volume, even if you shift some things at cost when you are dealing with low margin items
Great video ? With ur storage costs I wondered how other sellers / you are making much. Books take up a fair bit of room/ weight. Seems like bundles of books are the answer. Thanks. Hope your move went well.
I think people presume most of my book sales are the ;ow $14-$15 sales which is very much not true. I sell volume book sales a week and I sell many high priced books and bundles. My storage is about $240 a week for all the units and most of my stock I get for FREE or for 50c-$1. So my cost of goods is much much lower than when I was a clothing seller. It's just a different business model and it's not easy doing volume always but plenty of profits to be made if I hustle :)
From Michigan USA. I appreciate your in depth video. I just starting getting into books. You answered the question I had regarding low end books. This makes looking for books easier. Grayling
We just started buying pallets of books. This couldn’t be more true. We actually recycle almost half the books because they just are worth enough or poor condition. We pay less then $100 a pallet so it’s still worth it like you said
@@backfromburnout we will look at it if supply becomes more scarce but if we spend time on this we lose out on pallets as we have access to anywhere from 30-50 each month at that price. We aren’t ready to hire quite yet but when we do we will find ways to sell the lower condition ones too instead of recycling them.
@@backfromburnout we have watched a bunch of your videos now and we really like the idea of a Virtual Assistant. I started working on a process this week for it, I’m curious tho about selecting. We have looked thru fiverr and might start there unless you can suggest a better option.
Great video. You got me thinking at the end. If you don't have allot of room for books then don't do them. I don't have the room for the amount that you have that is for sure. I do Have the room for DVD's and CD's. Those are allot smaller.
Well, as another has said, you do have a 'large letter' price, I just googled it but sending the Andrea Hills books is gonna tricky at 20mm. But you have, 260x360x20mm for $2.20/3.30/5.50 depending on weight. I am in a similar boat, I got a load of books to list and I have started bundling in specific groups but 'search' is the bigger issue as most people will drill down onto the book they want, listing it in the title is the most important part of SEO, bundles not that easy. Then u got multi-buy, so that's where the postage-savings is supposed to be used, so each book is listed individually and when you buy 2-3 books u get 50% off value etc and free P&P.
I also sell books among other things and factor in my storage costs too. You have commercial storage, the cost of which I suspect can be brutal. In addition, the switch to managed payments means the cos of selling lower end items is now much more expensive. I enjoy your videos. Keep the faith. Regards from the UK.
Hi Mel just launched my eBay store this week... Have to start somewhere right? Just another Aussie Mum wanting to make my own business 📖 I've been binge watching your videos, your such an inspiration! 🙌💯
My shipping is flat rate so the mailers all have 5kg weight limits (11 pounds). My books are all listed with free postage so postage is incorporated in my initial costs. So if they buy multiple books and I package them together I make more profits. This also enables me to have buy 2 get 2 free coupons in my store adding value to my store for the buyers but still increasing my profits. Hope that makes sense
Great tip for UK sellers! Here in Australia we have a 5kg limit on whatever fits in our mailer sizes so thankfully I don't have to stress too much about weight - just what will fit in the mailer size.
Good video, very informative and confirms for me a lot of things about why I sold books in the first place. Did you specifically choose to wear a Nike shirt? If they are not a sponsor why would you be wearing a shirt with great big block letters advertising for Nike? Just curious. There’s so many clothes in the world, I can’t figure out why someone would wear a company logo on their shirt unless it’s a sponsor, which I think would be fine even though Nike shoes are more meant for active athletes than simply eBay booksellers. I’m an eBay bookseller but of course I prefer Adidas but I won’t be showing up on the Internet with a logo stating that
Some really good basic things in this that we can all learn if we are eBay sellers not just books but DVDs, CDs etc. I was recently at a large book sale and found CDs of Kenny Rogers. All the CDs were $.50 each but they are very common and seem to sell for only about four dollars each With free shipping. Well there were 18 Kenny Rogers CDs so I bought all of them a total of nine dollars investment I listed them all as a lot of 18 CDs for $34. They sold quickly, and after medium mail shipping cost of six dollars, my profit was $19. Not a bad profit. The way to succeed with something like eBay is it you need to have at least 200 items listed whether it’s individual books or CDs or lots. A lot means a grouping of numerous books whether it’s for books by the same author or 20 CDs by the same musician, to sell them together someone who wants to buy a collection will be delighted to find them so it’s a win-win, seller sells and makes a profit, the buyer gets a good deal and doesn’t have to be buying 18 books from 18 different sellers. I could go on and on but it’s basically sometimes you have to wholesale things out in multiple groups rather than just individual items. If you list several hundred items on eBay you are likely to have multiple sales per day then it makes it worth it to walk or drive to the post office to ship the box. For example, to sell a group of books where I make nine dollars profit after cost and shipping, well that’s not much money but if you figure I have 20 sales today if I have 200 W. things, then search add up and you actually make more than just simply lunch money. Thanks again for the video very informative very good very good
I have a question for you. The postage prices you quote seem a lot lower than the ones I have come across. To my knowledge the cheapest registered some satchel is 10.90 - how do you get to 7.16 postage? 🤗
Hi. Thanks for sharing all of your knowledge with us!! How do you decide on what the condition cut off on a book is to resell it? Or does that matter? I hope you understand what I’m asking. Lol!!
Yes, I always down grade my books and I list them as only as acceptable or good. This then allows for a little wear and tear moving around the shed and in shipping. I very rarely list a book over a good condition. This is mostly to stop me getting INAD cases on eBay or if I miss anything on any of the pages when I flick through them. This is a really old video but the information is still the same for my books. ua-cam.com/video/_5aUAtviWlo/v-deo.html
I am shocked you can sell those books for more than $3 to $4 each. Mind you, I'm in the US, so your market may be tighter. Why aren't you having your customers pay for shipping directly? Great idea to bundle.
Interesting but not something I'd be that interested in doing - no space and not the sort of stock I want in my shop. That said, there are things I would bundle if I find them (and do), even though I am probably selling "higher end" titles.
Yes Reg, you can bundle so many different items - not just books. Bundling is a great way to sell lots and make higher profits. It can be DVD's, CD's, Games, Toys, Clothes. Buyers are always looking for more value so as sellers if we can offer more perceived value to them we will end up benefiting in the end with higher profits and higher average sales :) Lower end books can take up space but for a book seller like me they are worth having in my store :) Thank you for watching!
Sorry but in the USVince Flynn books sell about $3.85 (US) each with Free Shipping. Do they sell that much more in Australia? And Why?? Sandra Hill books $4 with free shipping. 🤷♀️
Wow, that's so cheap! Yes, I can sell him easily here - I just posted a pair on Monday of Vince Flynn that I sold for $20 and I have often sold bundles of 4 of his books for $35. I am wondering if we get higher book sales here because we don't have Amazon to compete with. We are not allowed to sell second hand books on Amazon in Australia so eBay is our only real platform for selling (besides Facebook). So our book sales are strong and the books hold good value.
What are the measurements of the different size mailers that you use? I like how you say how many of each size you can put into a bundle that will fit in a certain mailer. I'm not in Australia, so I know my postage fees will be different, but it helps me decide where to start my bundling journey. I think this would be something good for me to try. 😊
So you do not ask for any shipping costs over the purchase books, these you pay yourself of the purchase price that you have included in the bookprice. World you not earn more if you calculated the shipping costs separately? $45,- for the books + $7,16 shippingcosts
My question though..who is going to pay a high price for a book that u can get for $.70? Like most of the books on ebay are used and in mostly acceptable condition. In fact, most sellers only show stock photos and incorrectly categorize them and the buyer is sold a “like new book” in barely acceptable condition for a high price. If its just as easy for u to get the book for $.70..why would a buyer pay $10 for it? Im also a book seller and can barely give these books away but I also am honest and show the full condition of them in at least 4 angles.
I also show all sides of the book plus front and back and any flaws. I'm very careful showing the condition and I always down grade my books and only ever mark them as good or acceptable to be safe and allow for any scuffing in the warehouse or when being shipped. I guess a lot of people don't have time to hunt down the books cheap themselves and they order online for convenience. I make a lot of money selling low end books when I bundle them up. They are great staples in my store.
@@backfromburnout Thats awesome! Ill have to try it..I tried to sell a lot of Jodi Picoult books for like $15 for 8 of them with no takers. Just not seeing the winning formula..
Mel B You as a buyer would likely be a pain in the butt for a reseller. Also, you are a reseller and you should know how the online market works. People buy used and new items online for the convenience, I mean they save time trying to search items by themselves in the stores. Customers are willing to pay whatever they want if they see the items they want " desirable". Also, your time or my time doing business online is gold, so you have to put prices on things in order to make a decent profit. Most times the description of items are in the description section or in the photos, but some people never read because they're lazy enough to do it. That's the way it works the online business. That's my two cents!!!!
In the US, there are folks who undercut the profits of the rest. I don't know how anyone can make between .15 and .50 cents profit for a single book (when you calculate media mail prices), but they put those super cheap books out there for mass media paperbacks. And even larger lots have people making often only about one or two dollars per book, so one can find a massive lot number for a very low price on this media type. Ridiculous!
No but it’s common in the media/book genres. Most of the big stores selling new books do free shipping so customers are accustomed to seeing those prices.
Hi Mel, loving your videos. Getting back to ebay again. I sold regularly when I got my first mortgage on the early 90s. Things have changed a bit. Can I ask about the mailers. I've been looking online &on ebay, so many choices. Are mailers more cost & time effective than bubble wrap & tape? Where do you buy your mailers from & what size do you recommend. I'm going back to doing mainly clothes but starting with the massive house cull which will include some books, dvds etc. Thanks for all the great info.
I am thinking seriously to sell books and if you can make courses how to sell from the beginning I will be your first student, please think of this and please make your prices affordable.
Do you read the viking books Mel? hee hee The books in my area are $2 minimum, I just bought 4 kiyosaki books for $12 today so will try the bundle trick.
Romance novels are my personal fave and I would be keen to read these (although I don't actually like reading the small size novels). I sell a lot of romance novels!
Are you sells higher if you do free postage cos I cant afford free postage my items I sell are around the 3 to 5 pounds mark like the idea of bundle to gather may try it with Jewellery lots thank you for your ideas very interesting
Do you sell book bundles above 12 books? I do sell books in my eBay store but only bundles of large quantities sometimes up to 15-20 books. They do tend to sit around longer though. Any advice for large bundles would be great Mel. Love the videos by the way. Thanks.

John 3:16-21
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
Mark 1.15
15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.
2 Peter 3:9
The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
Hebrews 11:6
6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

You’re an absolute genius, Mel. And I’ll be binge watching you again today. 😍
Thank you for watching me!
Great video as always Mel. Great tip on bundling books
Thanks so much! Bundling is awesome for lot's of different things you sell - books, DVD, CDm Toys, Games and even clothes :) More value for the customer and more profit for us!
We appreciate you Mel. 😎🌠👍
You're the best! Thank you Jeff
No thanks!
You seriously have such a brilliant business brain Mel..thanks again for these tips!
Thank you! 👍👍
You are welcome!
I have lots of Vince Flynn but they're just laying around so I'm hoping your sending me selling vibes😁
Let the buyer pay the shipping.
Thanks Mel, another great video and some ideas to take on board.
Thanks for the info! I am not a reseller but I have a lot of personal books that I'm trying to sell. I had bought 30ish books in the same topic and lost interest before I even opened the cover of most!
You can do it!
That is a very good point about lotting the same author together I have some personal books I will offload that way! Thanks Mel!
Glad it was helpful! Bundling is really great and also helps moves multiple books at once! It's the same as with items like DVD's - they are also great to bundle
That’s a good point. I collect books, and buying them by the “lot” saves me money and, apparently, earns the seller more money, too. 🤝
It also allows the seller to include some books in not-so-good condition with the lot, but I’m usually still happy with the price.
This is before you even consider a listing is the same effort whether its one book or 5, with 5 individuals being 5x the admin and shipping effort of one bundle of 5
I try to list series eg trilogies etc rather than standalone books, as buyers dont just want any book by that author they want the next one in the series, that cuts down their options (your competition)
Selling high volumes you qualify for top tier volume discounts via Mypost, which applies to all your parcels.
Grayling
This is so helpful for selling in most categories!
Yes! Making up bulk bundles in all different things we sell is so good - media, DVD, CD, Games, Toys - even clothes!
We just started buying pallets of books. This couldn’t be more true. We actually recycle almost half the books because they just are worth enough or poor condition.
We pay less then $100 a pallet so it’s still worth it like you said
Yes, there are always books in lots like that are not worth money reselling but if you can bundle them they can sell quite well!
Oh I love this post Mel....... thankyou
Good video...great advice...well done !!
Thank you
New here, and new to reselling! Thank you for this!
Great video. You got me thinking at the end. If you don't have allot of room for books then don't do them. I don't have the room for the amount that you have that is for sure. I do Have the room for DVD's and CD's. Those are allot smaller.
That's a great idea! Yep and you can still sell bulk DVD bundles and CD Bundles and increase profits!
Love your vids. Do you have a vid to show how you pack these large bundles of books? Thanks
I do offer buy one book and get 1 50% on some of my lower individual books to help people buy more :)
Just another Aussie Mum wanting to make my own business 📖
I've been binge watching your videos, your such an inspiration! 🙌💯
Thank so much! Welcome to my channel and thank you for watching!
Great video thumbs up!
$7.16 is a lot to mail a book. In the US it would cost about half that. We have a media rate for mailing books, CDs, DVDs, etc.
Yes, it is a lot - and thats with me on a bulk postage discount also! It's normally $8.95 to send a small parcel
excellent content will have to try bundling
You should! Let me know how you go if you do it :)
also helps that in Oz new books are massively overpriced compared to other parts of the world
Very interesting walk through on the economics of selling bundles of low cost books. Thanks for the video.
Am surprised your post cost from 1 to 6 books doesnt change. One would assume that 6 books are heavier than 1, so cost more to ship...
@@backfromburnout Makes sense, Mel. Thanks 😀
hmm. Given me heaps to think about. Thanks for all you do mel!
Really interesting! What a difference bundling makes!
It sure does! Great profits in bundling!
Very informative thanks Mel, I do similar in the UK but I make sure my bundles are under 2kg to save on shipping costs. 👍
Great tip for UK sellers! Here in Australia we have a 5kg limit on whatever fits in our mailer sizes so thankfully I don't have to stress too much about weight - just what will fit in the mailer size.
Thanks for that.. very good👍
Thanks so much for watching!
Thanks again for the video very informative very good very good
I just wear whatever I’m wearing for the day. I don’t dress up or change for my videos.
Great video !!!
Thank you for watching!
Can you please tell your percentage markup on books in a bundle rather than the dollar amount? I’m in the US and it gets confusing.
Love your content, great information! I would love to see a video about how you list your bundles on EBay.
Great idea!
great tips Mel :)
Thanks so much! 😊Bundling is a great way to make more money and we all want to make more money :)
Awesome! Thank you
You're welcome! Thank you!
Hi what about when You sale ONE book is BECAUSE the book is expensive or what thanks

Dollars or under with free shipping ?
That's not me! I aim to make profit in my business :)

Almost 6k Mel you are killing it sister!
I might wake to the exciting news ❤️
Hi Mel, How would you go about listing the bundle so people find it. Do you have a video on listing bundles?
Buyers are always looking for more value so as sellers if we can offer more perceived value to them we will end up benefiting in the end with higher profits and higher average sales :)
Lower end books can take up space but for a book seller like me they are worth having in my store :) Thank you for watching!
@@backfromburnout That could be a major factor in your part of the world!
I thort it go s on wight. One book less heavy. but 5 book Ain the wight more. Or post office not wight them ? ..unless sending over seas
Mel B
You as a buyer would likely be a pain in the butt for a reseller.
Shipping works a lot different in America. You can’t ship six books for the same cost of shipping one.
Ridiculous!
We can't sell those very common books for anywhere near those prices in the US.
Great tips
Thank you so much!
Great info. Love your accent.
Thank you so much for watching!
Thanks for this. Do you ever send out any of your sales without tracking if it's a cheap sale?
No never, everything I send is tracked.
Does EBay force you to include “free shipping” in all prices?
DO you charge shipping to the buyer?
Mel i want to buy a book for a friend in Australia. How do i find your store?
DM me on Instagram as I don't publicly link it
How would you feel if Australia got media mail tomorrow?
I don;' know enough about it but if it saves me postage then I think it would be great!
Hi Mel has the change that eBay has made not using PayPal and money going straight to the bank affected you?
No, we have been on managed payments a while now and I have nothing but positive's to say about it :)
No book shipping price in Australia bummer
No media mail here sadly :(
You should try selling those to mass market books for 20 quid in the uk, you won't be in business long.
Do u aell danielle steele in lots of 3
I sell her in 3,4,5 lots mostly.
Good business postage rates. $7 postage for a book seems crazy!
Do you sell book bundles above 12 books? I do sell books in my eBay store but only bundles of large quantities sometimes up to 15-20 books. They do tend to sit around longer though. Any advice for large bundles would be great Mel. Love the videos by the way. Thanks.
Thanks for sharing game
Thanks for the visit
Lani Steele here - new name. I’d love to know how you pack & ship bundles of books
I bought a set of 1899 encyclopedias for $1 and someone offered me $225 for just one of the books . Sold!
How do you decide what to price your books at? As I'm looking at the sold on eBay they seem so low. I'm at a loss where to begin.
I go high they are usually always going to offer less so I will get usually what I want
