- Mass Effect Andromeda- The game is here and the review embargo has lifted. This review was actually over 40 minutes in its first draft as I had just so much to say, and even the remaining 23 minutes is longer than I would have liked. Still it's a game about which much will be written over the coming months and years, so I hope this review is a worthwhile contribution to that discussion.

Checked a couple reviews so far and this was by far the most comprehensive and one that I feel touched on every question I had about the game. After seeing your review I do think it's a game worth picking up, but maybe after a couple patches. Here's hoping you do some future reviews, because I feel like I can definitely look to this channel for a fair, objective evaluation.

Gotta say.. I LOVE your review. You did this review right! Unlike a lot of the other ones out there, you take a game and give us an honest, non bias review that points out the strengths, weaknesses, and everything in between about the game. I don't fully agree with you on all the points you made, but still, i loved the review, and that's why i stay subbed to this channel.
If anyone thinks he is a Fan Boy, look at his recent review covering The Division's year one celebration/year 2 content review.. super honest. Keep up the great content.
This game does look fun to play, but honestly, you really shouldn't give them your money until they actually polish and finish the game. It is becoming waaay to normalized that companies put out these unfinished games and we as consumers still give them our money. I'm disappointed that they allowed this to be released in this state. I'm worried about the direction the gaming industry is going since this trend is starting to become more and more apparent.
yea, a few personal examples i know that were unfinished at launch was Destiny, and Tom Clancy's Division, but they came out fairly good later on.
xXShadowLion na the division I don't agree game is trash I was extremely hyped for the division literally waiting day in and night out and it released but it wasn't what I was expecting at all see I didn't watch that many reviews I still remember the trailers from 2013 but it was so bland compared I played the game for 4 months and quit I got bored from playing it all-day and it never looked good enough to comeback haven't touched it since last July I'm still pissed about buying it

bxblaze b dude like I said it's my opinion on why I don't like the division. I dislike grinding long boring hours in a dark city (I'm a light bright kinda guy) I prefer destiny over the division and like I said the division messed up on not giving me what I expected that's why I bought the game in the first place.

Man you nailed with the example Ashley Shepard. The simple paragon and renegade dialogue choices produced awesome moments in the trilogy.

i need a review from someone who has never played a mass effect game before... cause that's where i find myself.
I played Mass Effect 3, and if you want to try out a Mass Effect game I'd suggest grabbing the third for pretty cheap off g2a or kinguin - it'll give you a good insight on what the genre is about =)

appreciate it... ps4 only scrub. so no going backwards for me unless they put out a collection.
popcultivation tbh it's set in the same universe but 600 years in the future. the previous ganged have no real connection. however having played the trial, I went back to mass effect 1 as I like you never played a mass effect. all I can say is, first 4 hours face value, mad effect 1 is better. better disfigure story and combat seems to be the sane awkward clunky mess. if you can play the previous so, however don't feel obligated. the alien game as per this review re explains everything about the alien races. hope this helps
I have never played Mass Effect 1-3. And just testet the 10 hour trail on Xbox. Loved it!! But I am going to wait until the bugs and framerate problems are fixed before i buy. As these are big and many and some might diminish the game enjoyment. But i will buy this game later, but now just right now. The game is "broken" right now.
Thanks for the balanced review skill up. I played the other mass effect games and the reason I love mass effect is the characters and story. I cancelled my preorder last week 2 days after I made it when I heard all the trouble it was having. I really wanted this to be as good as the first games. It seems to have falling short
Always enjoyed your Division stuff. Good to see you put as much thought into a 'new' property. Interesting that despite there being quite a few things that are clearly not so good or even outright bad you wanted to keep playing. I've seen a few others say much the same and not completely understanding why. I wonder how much polishing they will continue to do? Sounds like it could be a much better experience in 6 months time.

Thank you for your great review! I am a huge Mass Effect fan and I can see that this game doesn't have enough of things that I was actually looking forward to in the next game in the franchise. At least I will skip on spending money and grinding for a hundred hours + just to be disappointed in he end.

Skill-Up Let me say that I began watching your videos since your infamous DPS videos for Division. I appreciate your approach and in-depth videos and believe you are one of the most underrated voices in the community (I hope that comes across as positive). With that said, this is the most disheartening and saddest review I've heard from you (even more so than your Division is dead with Year 2 content video) because I feel I'll have the same feelings as you when I dig into the game tonight. Regardless, thank you for the in-depth review. I hope Bioware finds a way to turn things around because I don't think I can handle another AAA title letdown.

Incredibly well crafted review mate. You contextualized all your statements on the game fairly well (could still do this a bit better), enabling anyone (as long as they aren't incredibly short-sighted) to benefit from your opinions regardless of their personal interests or style. I hope to see you do more review content in the future. Especially so for me since I think we look for and enjoy very similar elements in video games.
In the future please continue to contextualize your opinions, especially the most subjective ones, with statements on why you feel the way you do, and what you typically enjoy related to that gameplay element. Either because you did this fairly well or because I watch enough of your content to already understand your predilections I feel I got a well rounded view of the game, but this is something any reviewer should always strive to improve on. The more we know about you, the more we can contextualize the information you give us and apply it to our own personal outlook and interests.
All-in-all, very well executed. I feel significantly more informed and have adjusted my expectations accordingly. Hopefully with my lowered expectations I'll enjoy the experience more. I get the feeling I'm still going to wish I waited for a sale though...

This is a fantastic review. You elegantly explain the faults and the positives of the game without resorting to saying "it's just bad". Everything is expanded upon and has a purpose. Will be looking forward to future videos.

If you are a REALLY devoted ME fan (like myself) I'd say ME, as you're still going to enjoy it. If you're about meh about the series, I'd say Horizon Zero Dawn.

+Skill Up I've frequently seen the sentiment that if you really love Mass Effect you'll still enjoy it, and I'm not so sure about that. I don't like the quality of this beloved franchise dropping significantly. It looks like it is being released 4 months earlier than it should. I've played the previous MEs to 100% with every class at the highest difficulty and was ranked around 700 globally on PC in ME3 co-op. Do I just not like Mass Effect enough to accept that basics like the character models and animations look terrible?
It looks to me like combat is pretty solid, making multiplayer still quite salvageable if they clean up tech issues. If I end up liking it, I suspect it will because it did things like combat well, not because of how much I do or do not love the franchise. Overall, I'm pretty disgusted with the shoddy quality control. I'm also going to be transitioning from the animation of Platinum Games to this animation dumpster fire, which doesn't help matters.
How do I watch vid in 1440p? Clicking the cog only gives me a max of 1080p, no option for 1440p.
I held off on playing this game for a while, but its fantastic. It's a great game to add to the Trilogy and hope they do another one. Freaking awesome game well worth playing through several times with different profiles.
watching this now reminds me the talks of canceled dlc. particularly the missing quarian arch. i remember being like what missing dlc, when did they ever bring up missing archs. thats how little that side stuff ever popped up.

I've already preordered this game i played ME 2 and 3 but to be honest cant even remember much of them. so i was looking forward to this game but it sounds like the same things i couldn't stand in wildlands are present in this game also! Flawless 60fps on Ultra, GTX 1080, i75820k. I did have crashes though, but Nvidia is yet to patch it.
Omg, Senpai spoke to me!!! J/K :P (i74790k here) I noticed that the game performed much better on ultra than it did on high or lower.
Like getting stuttering when looking at distant landscape in the first mission. Ultra smoothed it out perfectly.. But some cut scenes almost felt like they were not as optimized as the actual game was. You noticed similar?

hey its jupepi I finished Horizon Zero Dawn 30 min before playing Andromeda. I liked both games. They are not comparable and shouldn't be. Understand HZD gets my vote for Game of the year hands down. I still enjoyed playing Andromeda and have started a second play through of both games.
TBH the combat rise and falls on what loadout you actually pick. THere are some amazing loadouts that are an absolute blast to play, and then others that feel really straight forward and boring.
The vanguard blinking around. Blasting people up into the air. Blinking up and smashing them into another enemy is amazing, while the normal, standard rifle build is a snore fest like no other. It does require you to experiment though.
I agree with you, that relative to releases in 2017 its pretty bad
Relative to the games that have come 6-12 months before you are 100% correct, but everything is relative I guess.
Andromeda is for people like me that run it 100% it seems.

I've scoped around quite a few different video and text reviews of ME: Andromeda so far, and I found this one to be the most informative and useful of the lot. I liked that you put effort into analysing the game's problems and putting them into the context of the overall package. A lot of the first reviews seemed not to have finished the game by getting bogged down in side quests, which affected the given impressions, so it was refreshing to have you clearly separate the main plot from the side missions.
I expect I will pick up the game somewhere down the line, but it is disappointing to hear Andromeda falls short in world building and story elements. The original games, for all their faults, created an immersive world with expansive lore filled with classic sci-fi themes. My reservations with Andromeda began with the feeling, even before we knew any details, that it existed primarily to enable the ME series to continue in some form. The repeated comment in reviews that Andromeda never really develops on the theme of galactic colonialism or journeying far from home seems like an incredible missed opportunity. The original games had something to say within the stories they told, both personal and civilisational. They had a vision. Andromeda, it seems, does not.
Your videos are straight up quality and well written and well presented. I think your videos would get more likes and less dislikes if people didn't take their own personal views of the content that you are reviewing into consideration. Nothing you can do about that unfortunately. Well done

Watching in 2021 really hammers home how far BioWare has fallen. I shared many sentiments you state here about the hope that BioWare would recover from this stumble and redeem andromeda with a great sequel. While we know ME4 is on the way, it’s the first time I’ve been nervous rather than excited
Re-watching this review after playing the Mass Effect remasters.. Oh boy, this game is such a step back! I was so gripped by the characters and stories of ME trilogy, and all I can remember from my first playthrough of ME Andromeda is that it was buggy as hell, crashed so many times I had to quit playing it more than half way through.
I never played any of the ME games back in the day. This was my first ever one and I thought it was alright to be totally honest. Had a good time.

Good review. I think I'll pick it up but after playing the EA access version I was a little underwhelmed. It's fun but mass effect is special to me and I expected better. If you go in with no expectations I think you'll have a thoroughly enjoyable time.

I actually cancelled my preorder this morning after finding out the voiced-over Codec and the power wheel/giving orders to your squadmates wasn't returning. I wish you would've mentioned those features as well as the planet scanning, music, and multiplayer. But alas, I think I'm skipping this game anyway, sad to say.
I agree with a lot of what you are saying, but the voiced over codex entries? That was the most insanely insufferable thing I've ever listened to. It also didn't give me the option to shut it up so I could just read the stuff.
Don't want to do side quest but you still want to have all the toy? Why would you expect that from any RPG?
Even in Witcher 3 if you want the set item you need to do some boring quest and fetch.

Man I like and agree with your review as someone who is playing the game. In this day and age people tend to over hype new stuff and in doing so, end up killing all fun that there is to be had. I can understand that some people didn't like this Me but I myself having played the previous ME, I like to say that I am enjoying this one better even with some shortcoming that you've mentioned in the review like the immaturity of the MC (which can sometime be funny). All this talking is saying that do not be bias about a game or even a movie for that matter because don't forget we are not perfect and it is also people who may not be a genius like you that are creating these games. When I am playing a new game, I tend to detach myself from any previous knowledge so that I can enjoy the content as intend by the creator. LIKE if you like what you reading so word travel faster.
I'm hoping Andromeda is a repeat of ME1. In that, ME1 was a good game with flaws but Bioware heard the feedback and actually made huge improvements in the following games. I expect the same thing here.
Geek Jump completely agree, people are looking through rose glasses and forgetting all the issues me1 had. I think moving forward a lot will improve.
I just played all three again, 1 still is the best game overall imo, two is a close second though, and I enjoyed three a lot also tbh besides the lackluster ending.
Geek Jump Optimisim is fine but don't forget this is their *fourth* Mass Effect game.

chaosinmybreath No, gameplay was bad with repeatable enemy shouting "I will destroy you", "watch out" and "perimeter breached", exploring is horrible with the mako. Horrible voice acting when Liara meets Benezia and "hold the line" speech was laughable. I like the game, story is fantastic, but overall it is the weakest of the entire series.

Yea, I agree. After preordering the Deluxe Edition I found that it wasn’t what I was looking for so shelved it until a few weeks ago. I installed it and am playing through a second play through now. Clearly, the timing of picking it up initially didn’t work but I’ve found it a really pleasant game this time around.
Although this is not what I wanted to hear or what I expected from Bioware, a lot of the points you made are things that I would look for in a Mass Effect game. I had hoped for better, smething like how great ME 2 was, but maybe they will hit the target in the next one? I'm hopeful.
