Jake.E.Lee is one of the most underrated & best guitarists ever. I loved his Ozzy stuff, especially his work on 'The Ultimate Sin', but he really found his groove with Badlands. The self-titled album is a masterpiece of blues and shredding and Voodoo Highway was almost as good. His playing on 'A Fine Pink Mist' which he did at home with a drum machine after Ray Gillian died, is really unique. Red Dragon Cartel is loose and bluesy. He has never been sloppy. I wish he had found another singer/muse after Ray died that would have kept him in the scene. Man is a genius! Want this AMP NOW! Side note: Gary Holt from Exodus is just as underrated and as good IMO.
Utter shame one has to hunt to get Badlands digitally due to the lawsuit issues related to royalties. I only found out about it a few years ago myself and besides youtube cant find a way to stream or download the albums
Same here! I was 11 and frustrated with the guitar and then I heard Blizzard of Oz and was like.....yes. Randy is who I wanted to be. Still my favorite guitarist. Jake brought his own style and sound and absolutely killed it!
What Jake did when he walked into the gig after the death of Randy was AMAZING. He had huge shoes to fill...and damn if he didn't do it and make the shoes his own. I hold Jake's contributions to be absolutely on the same level with Randy's. Both have/had this great combination of flash, taste, and chops.

Jake ABSOLUTELY!! However for Speak of the Devil before Jake…I have to give big love to Brad Gillis. I learned so much from that album. Then Jake came and blew my effin’ ears and mind.
I like that you used a Jake E Lee guitar. Back in the 80s I always noticed that Jake had his own guitar that was similar but fairly different than what literally everyone else was playing. He had a Charvel, but it was a hardtail. He had slightly different pickups. Etc. I was always impressed by how he played the game but with his own just slightly different rules.
My favorite part of the vid is the King's X mention -- Ty's always got great tones not matter what he used but that Marshall tone he go on the Ear Candy record is so good -- pretty sure that was a 30th Anniversary. That amp with that setting just about nails it. Dave's done it again!
I have been a Jake E. Lee diehard for a LONG time. Since he played with Ozzie and Phil Soussan and the late but great drummer Randy Castillo! Shot in the Dark was one of the 1st songs I learned to play on drums..anyway I loved that era of Ozzie,,did not last long but it was aswesome! Jake E. Lee is a great guy it seems too. Awesome playing Pete, as always!
Hell yeah, Jake's sound with Ozzy blew me away. It was sooo big, so much clarity on monster chords. Such a great guitarist, glad to this Signature amp!
Randy is my favorite Guitarist. It is unfair to compare any guitarist to another. Jake E Lee is also one of my favorites as well. His playing is strong, smooth, and sneaky. His technique is very good and he knows how to get great tone.
We all should appreciate, love and respect Mister Jake E. Lee for his awesome playing in Ozzy and Badlands. But we also give a big shout out to his current band Red Dragon Cartel. Because they are awesome, too. 🤘🤘
Man, you were really making that amp bark...as if at some bright, glowing near-earth satellite, even. 😉 Only time I ever saw Ozzy live was on the "Bark at the Moon" tour, Jake E. Lee was killing it, absolutely fire. The amp is cool, haven't heard a Friedman that was ever less than great.
Okay, getting one now. Thank you Pete for the most dynamic listen to this masterpiece. This ticks all the boxes + 2 CHANNELS in a 20 watter! Are you kidding me? Dave Friedman, you sir are incredible. Pete, always a treat to hear you play. :)
Saw Jake with Ozzy as a kid then again with Badlands in 1991. The Ozzy stuff, dude was at the top of his game. The Bark At The Moon album was a masterpiece.
And I'm loving these current range of 20w amps. So much more usable in the real world, and they sound awesome. My personal fave at the moment is the Marshall SV20. It's nice to be able to crank an amp and not have to worry about blowing out the windows! And you are correct about the pickups, SDS = Super Distortion Single. I was initially skeptic about them, but they do the job very well indeed.
This was a great showcasing of Jake's Sig. Friedman. I really appreciate the depth of your demo and how you explain preamp settings and how to get a certain tone out of the amp. Definitely gives me more clarity as to what I'm going for and how to get there in my own settings. Thanks Pete!
I just got one of these with the matching 1z12 cab and the amp just kicks a$$. This thing can keep up with a drummer in a gig situation too. Great demo as usual Pete!

I recently bought this amp and run it through a 212 cab. I absolutely love it. Wow!! Totally nailed Ty Tabors tone on Ear Candy 🔥🔥✌️ What an amazing feat of an amazing band & guitarist! Just like J.E.Lee ✌️ Cool amp 2!
AWESOME RIFFAGE MR. THORN! The amp sounds good - but ALL the gear you review sounds great bcs your playing brings EVERYTHING to Life! Have a good one!
I've been extremely impressed with every Friedman I've ever tried. Absolutely excellent amps. If you want the best modded Marshall tone, you can't go wrong with a Friedman. The are easily the equal of Soldano.
