We all think "why is the woman acting like that" while watching these movies but then when u actually think about it... The women's character and dialogue and the whole plot is also written by a man.
Then women writers will take revenge by following this woke theory Women are always innocent Villain will always be the man If I am women then don't judge me no matter what I do If my partner cheats on me I am the victim if I do the same I am empowered If my husband slaps me I am oppressed but if I slap my husband I am smashing patriarchy. We need more movies like THAPPAD! Audience should now be exposed to such cinema more, compared to the masala movies which mostly show male masculinity or patriarchal remarks
Even thappad is trying to satisfy a few people by the heroine being a good daughter in law Fr her in laws who never found their son's doing wrong in any way!!!!!
And most absurd thing is when the society try to defend the culprits by blaming the victim " woh ladki ese hi hai". Everyday I wakeup and the society show its new low 💔
I am going posting this around coz people are too quick to judge and do not look into the details This case is complicated and to understand it you need to look into it. From what I read the guy and girl are distantly related and were in a sexual relationship ( allegedly under threat by the guy) since she was in class 9. Then the girl complained to her parents about the abuse and the boys parents also got involved. They came to an agreement to marry the two when she turned 18 if the girl did not press charges against the guy. Fast forward to when she turned 18, the guys parents refuse to go through with the marriage and the girl files charges. The court says if the original agreement of marriage is done then the rape charges will also be dropped as per the agreement. It is also there in indian law that if a guy has sex with a girl under promise of marriage but breaks that promise then it is rape. Its very fucked up, our society is just not open to sex and it leads to such bad situations
They say, “The movie is based on true events.” And most people after knowing the sad reality, “True events are based on baseless and demoralising movies.”
To set a perspective, im 33yrs old woman. Thanks to bollywood, which was the only source of relationships and sex education I grew up believing that 1. "Good Girl' never makes the first move and should wait for the guy to approach. 2. No matter how much you like the guy when he 'proposes', you have to say No. The guy will persist and then you may yes. 3. If too many guys in the neighborhood are interested in a girl, it is the girl who gets gossiped about. 4. Once you say Yes, it is for life. Morals of those involved, especially the girl, are questioned if it is a short term relationship. As bollywood defined it, Yes to a proposal means a saat janom ka commitment. 5. No matter what, no sex. True love hai toh boy will understand and respect it. "Good Girls" anyway have no sexual urges or hormones...unless there is a toofan or baarish involved. 😂
Really though movies don't really change people's perspective that much. They only expose such problems. These issues with consent and female respect are deep rooted within our society and the only way for any of this to get better is by a good judiciary system that supports women which they clearly aren't doing. Fucking pointless
I totally agree with you, But the reason behind this is, There are some women who take advantage of 'these laws' and file cases. Movie (Section 375) where the girl files a case on her boyfriend for raping her! (which never happened) He was jailed for a crime which he never committed and earned a title 'Rapist'
@@33R3X well those type of cases are few and far between. I am not derailing the grimness of this problem but for a nation like ours where every damn street feels unsafe for women, this law is the need of the hour. @@rhythm2238 exactly we do know that happens but the cases aren't as frequent as crimes against women in India and in various shapes and forms. Let focus on one thing first. I was once molested by a classmate as I was effeminate and fairly weak compared to other class boys. After the incident, one day I confronted him publicly out of frustration and his answer shocked me. He said, "What are you suggesting? That I start molesting girls?" So basically this toxic jock culture teaches their boys on the cusp of manhood that a molestation is a molestation if it is truly done by a man to a woman. I was shocked. The options of my molester were molesting me or some girl. Wow. And he was not even kidding when he said this. I was like, why do you have to molest anyone? What's with this crazy urge to physically violate someone? The guy also told me that weak effeminate boys are made like this (by God probably) so that masculine men like him can fulfil their lust for women which they cannot do within the constraints of law and how a girl's NO is more powerful than that of a boy's. Till date I am not able to shake off this memory, as I see on FB the guy is happily married, enjoying with wife and kid. Society really has its way of rewarding its toxic manly men.

Perhaps the prime problem is rape and sexual assault is still seen by many as an attack on the survivor's honour and not on the individual. Movies are reflective of a dangerous and shameful culture and also the same culture is being spread and familiarised by movies. The highest court of the country cannot be holding such regressive views. While on one hand we fight the increasing number of rape it is sad that we also have to fight a victim blaming culture and one that does not account the needs of a survivor of the violence.

The worst part is that the problem with the girl being raped is everyone thinks "ab isse shaadi kaun karega" and the assault of the woman and her consent comes as a secondary thought. A woman being the "izzat of the ghar" (as said in Raja ki aayegi baarat) and that "izzat" being destroyed is the first priority of people. The girl being used, harassed, and raped is what many people don't even think. Marriage becomes the way to save that so-called "izzat" and the victim has to go through with it. Their consent regarding the marriage is not even important (even though this is a problem in general and not just in such cases) and the girl is made to go through with it to restore the family's status.
Jammy love you bro. you never fails to impress us. Thank you so much for this. We need more men like you. This statement is so problematic to so many levels. This government and this contry never fails to shock me. Yet Disappointed !!! It's so heartbreaking.
Rape cannot be stopped just by punishing the rapist or giving them death sentence. It can only and only be stopped by understanding why does a person rape and then finding a way out how to make sure this thought does not take birth in any other persons mind. It's a very broad concept, but we just think it's a small incident. This video clearly highlights some a points which shows the mentality of people towards a rape victim. Another reason why a women is raped. Right now we are just cutting off the branches, we need to uproot this issue.
The impact of these kind of scenes in movies on younger generation is insanely bad as they shape their thinking into a certain fixed way that society wants them to be. As a kid, I too have grown up watching these kind of scenes and this idea of whenever a girl is raped, molested or seen naked by a man, she should marry him, has rooted deeply in me like 1+1=2 as if it was a law and many people i know are still believing in it. People learn most of things knowingly or unknowingly from movies. These kind of scenes should be removed or at lest should not be glorified for well being of next generation.
I’m sorry but this video should have a trigger warning. I’m glad that you are bringing this to light but as someone who has gone through a period of sexual assault, the judges statement just wrenched my soul. And the audacity of that judge to ask if he wanted to marry that girl. Really? Is that where we are at as humanity that we forget who is the perpetrator and the victim. How come he gets a option to marry her or get jailed? When she didn’t even have voice when he was sexual exploiting her.For him those were a few moments but for the victim its the life time of trauma. The trauma that will stay with her for her entire life, she lives in her worst nightmare, while the actual monster get to have a option in either being punished or not? The justices system not only failed to give this girl justice, it failed every citizen.
The court verdict is more of a mirror of a much darker, more controversial and perhaps more shocking revelation: when the court asked the government to reply to LGBTQ+ marriages, the reply was that "marriage" of "a" boy and "a" girl is the ultimate and only truth in Hindu societies, when ancient Hindu scriptures actually turn out to include a lot more. Dekhke dard hota hain ki superpower ke sapne dekhne waalein yeh dekh nahi pate, kya uchit hain aur kya anuchit. Especially in these times. And the fault or the burden falls not upon a handful of people. It falls upon our society as a whole...
Many countries don’t even consider rape in many cases. Kisi b country mein koi change nai hona until we ourselves change our mindset and teach both son or daughter to respect other person and equality
I think most people don't know, but their is a show ongoing in colors where they are showing child marriage, and the worst part is that they are romanticizing the relationship between a nine year old girl and a 18 year old boy. And still no one is talking about it.

u have to realise that these serials are the only thing avaialble in media for most of the population in India. They cant afford Netflix(or other better sites or the internet) for alt content. And thus go to tv. And they get influenced by the media since most have no education(in moral values) that some things are not right. So they start to think whatever is shown in the serials is right.
This shapes their mind, and in turn, shapes the majority of the people living in Indian society.
Schools don't help at all, by not teaching us this stuff, so that's why it is imp for the media to also take responsibility and show proper stuff, NOT HARRASSMENT AND FORCEFUL SHIT that certain people are just supposed to follow.

This case is complicated and to understand it you need to look into it.

To set a perspective, im 33yrs old woman. Thanks to bollywood, which was the only source of relationships and sex education I grew up believing that

The worst thing is that in those who blame a woman for the crime she hasn't commited , there are women as well. How can they not understand her pain? Why don't they stand for her respect and her life?
Asking a rapist to marry the victim will be like rewarding the rapist instead of punishing him ..and the most stupidiest thing will be that it will be victim who will get punished for lifetime ..seriously i am ashamed of this decision
The biggest problem here is the discrepancy between conservatism and absolute patriarchy. Between modernization and westernization. People should clear these concepts first.
We live in a absurd world. That's it. And we as a society are responsible

Thanks for speaking this out. Specially when this is coming from a man himself. Your contribution might be considered very small but it's enough to may be bring some sort of change in the society.
I still remember watching movies Raja ki aayegi barat and Tejasvini as a kid was such a terrifying experience for me.. Even after becoming an adult, rape scene in the movies makes me so uncomfortable and embarrassing at the same time that I feel ashamed of myself being a male ☹️
There is nothing shameful in being a man... as long as u dont believe in toxic masculinity

Ok now it is time to file a petition stating that the victim will not be forced to marry the abuser because that will be the norm.I feel the abuser must be punished and not be given an option to be married.
The abuser should be given death penalty
Lol itni simple cheez hai , lekin apni buddhi kha ja ri hai , i mean punishment for r@pists and justice for victim , it's a simple statement but now we have to start petetion for even this!!. , So ab kya rojgar nhi ho ra justice wala yaha dedo hum log kar lenge 🙄😒.
@Might Guy the rapist should serve life imprisonment then.
Bollywood films are so ahead of their time. They predicted in 1990s how will India's Supreme Court behave in 2021. We have jokers filled in Judiciary who are ready to go to Parliament with their bizarre sense of justice,
It's not a prediction. Most likely people's mind were influenced from these kinds of movies.

Lajja is an amazing movie and really needed to be watched.
In this particular case, the girl who has been abused is herself ready for the marriage because she wants to protect the honor of the child born to her by the perpetrator. She is more worried about the future of her child than her own life. The society is the one that is to be blamed.
Thank you so much for this segment Jammy.
This was much needed for the indian audience to watch.
Well, looking at Supreme Court's handful of judgments, Bollywood got some justifications..
Latest court judgement make me think if justice still prevails in India .... Marriage cannot compensate the trauma a girl underwent...
Isse badaa punishment kya ho skta hai uskeliye????Usko cchoda toh unko safar nahi karna hai na taane sunna hai Ladki yeh na sune toh yehi ek raasta hai.... Zindagi bhar pallu banke rahenge toh woh kya hi kar paayenge????

By marrying the victim off to the criminal, they are punishing the victim instead of the criminal.
@@127ymmfl11 don't worry about the victim here, I have gone through this case, and here the request was made from the girl's side that if the boy leaves his current wife and marries her then she has no problem in withdrawing her case. XD
As a student studying law I'm simply disgusted by these judges. All answers are already there in our laws yet they decide to force their outdated "Moral views" on young girls who deserve to have a better life. They are just plainly disrespecting and insulting our constitution and all the law institutions which are trying their best to establish justice.
Kudos to you Jammie for calling this out without any hesitation.

Jammy, thank you for making this video. It was very much needed. Although I doubt if people don't understand the gravity of the situation, creators like you and others ( healthy sensible grown adults) how much try this remains...!!!
These prejudices remained :'(
People like us cringe, cry, scream in agony and anger. Try to make sense to others but this horror remains.
Mirch Masala starring Smita Patil and Naseeruddin Shah is a brilliant example of a woman who stands and fights for her honour ⚡
It has always been one step forward and two steps back with our laws. It is extremely disappointing to see that the dignity and respect which we deserve as human beings, has always come with conditions.
It is horrible that people think about the girl's marriage first than her safety after she has been raped.
First 2 minutes was very explanatory about situation and safety of women in this country. Thanks for making the video 🙏

My chest burns just by thinking that used to enjoy those movies as a kid and thought it was all about love.
It's 2021, I thought we were moving forward 😞

One thing I never understood is that.. If someone is raped. How does the honor of the victim is harmed? Like how... It should be opposite.

Here people are criticizing movies to have a negative influence on society but back when some people criticized Kabir Singh for same things everyone was mocking them like--"Maine to Gangs Of Wasseypur dekh kar murder nahi kiya."
Bottom line is Hindi movie industry plays a major part is forming public perception. They have to be responsible for the content they put forth as long as Munni badnaam, kabir Singh exist as fiction - there are bound to be Nirbhayas across India. Nothing can be passed as "Entertainment" in a volatile country like India.
