Ah, so he goes by Valve time.
With over 400 villagers, and 5 seconds per villager, yea, that is short

One thing he didn’t mention about Apollo is that his birthday is literally the 4th of July
Apollo is the personification of America itself.
You guys know what comes to mind when I think of Apollo?

24:53 hate to break it to you, but while Fauna’s name is deer-based, female deer are actually called does. What her name is referring to are baby deer (also called fawns), and the fact that Fauna has spots in the back of her head matches this as well (young fawns have spots on their backs, and they lose these spots as they grow older and gain their adult coloring)
Also if the sound of music taught me anything is that a doe is deer, a female deer

And a Ray, the guy who pumps my gas
@@spindash64 so glad I read this comment. Had a genuine belly laugh
And animals are called Fauna.
Fauna means animal.
i love how this guy does all this research on why the name’s are what they are, but not the research on how to pronounce non-english based names
Even some of the English names were atrocious 😅
I would say he mispronounced MOST of the names that you can't say phonetically, and even some that you can 🤦🏼♀️
As someone who had Graham on their island, he is definitely NOT a grandpa hamster. He's an IT nerd who sleeps on boxes in a server room and listens to Bubblegum KK on repeat.
He also has a portrait of Chrissy and Francine above his door in New Horizons!
graham is a common name for ‘nerds’ here, and judging by his experience he certainly looks like a stereotypical ‘nerd’.
He is basically an otaku.
My friend called him Reddit hamster.
He pronounced Graham wrong.
Correction: "faun" is actually the name for a _baby_ deer; female deer are called "does".
It could also be like: FAWNing, like a girl fawning (daydreaming) over things like crushes.
:D
But yeah funny enough I had to argue with my brother over fawns being young deer and not being does.
The animal is spelled fawn. It's a homophone pun.
Or hinds. It depends on the species. Like how male deer can either be bucks or stags.
I had like a whole minute of "wait have I been using the word faun wrong all this time" before this comment so ty
Does what?
Here's something fun to consider: The Dodos in the English version of New Horizons are named Wilbur and Orville. Considering they run the airport, I assume that's a reference to the Wright Brothers?
Zucker = German word for "Sugar", which explains the food-character of Zucker
Im always a little bit disappointed when people don't get the pun tbh so thank you for the translation
Zucker is a takoyaki, why would he be named sugar?
Did he ignore the fact that “Big Top” is just a name for circus tents?
I was looking for this comment 😂😂 That’s what I always thought too!!!

Apparently Nan and Chevre are references to a Japanese children's book. Basically the goats are pen pals and write each other letters, but they wind up eating the letters before they ever read them. So they write a letter back asking to explain what the letter had said in the first place. Oh and I think Zucker is supposed to be Takoyaki 😅

i like to imagine that the dudes at nintendo was just thinking “yeah i like the name amelia for this bird” and not thinking like this
The game is way too detailed and thought out for that. They even thought through each villager’s interior home design, outfits, and specific phrases…
Actually, according to the Animal Crossing wiki, Chrissy's name is probably a reference to Christina Aguilera. Makes sense considering she's a peppy villager.
The way you pronounced some of these names activated my fight or flight

I believe Buzz is a reference to the Second Man on the moon, Buzz Aldrin, continuing the moon theme started with the other Eagle, Apollo.

Beau’s Japanese name is “Peter” and he’s modeled after an impala so he’s likely named after the scientific name for the black-faced impala: Aepyceros melampus petersi; a particularly rare and handsome subspecies of impala coveted by trophy hunters. Also I think it’s funny how impalas are renown as one of the fastest and most agile animals on the planet and Beau is a lazy villager!
Another layer to Nana's name is found in her catchphrase, Popo. She's named after the Ice Climber.

Female deer are called “Doe” Lockstin
A young deer is a fawn, so there is still a connection
And also the Faun myth. You know, the people with deer legs? Spyro has one, Percy Jackson has one...
DOH!! - Silly Yellow fat man
Amanda Hartman Fauna does have the spots baby deer have
And also fauns are baby deer
Lockstin: Big top is named that because he’s big, and Topsy was a famous circus elephant!
Also Lockstin: Doesn’t mention that that the biggest tent in a circus is called the big top.
Maggie is probably named Maggie because of the phrase “do not cast your pearls before swine”
With Vivian meaning "life" or "alive" it could reference that story in mythology where a female wolf saved the twins Romulus and Remus who were almost drowned when their father was killed. The twins then went on to create Rome. In 4th(?) Century Rome there was also a martyr named Saint Viviana, which helps link the theme I think
Romulus and Remus were adopted by a wolf, hence the artwork available in the game, The Capitoline Wolf
Quick word about Jitters, everything about him has to do with Brazil, he's a bird which Brazil's fauna is rich in, his design resembles Brazil's national football team's uniform, he's addicted to coffee because Brazil is the biggest producer of it, and the music that plays in his house is kk samba

51:56 Rizzo is actually based on something huge! There’s a famous Japanese thief who can be compared to Robinhood. He wore the exact same scarf/face covering as Rizzo! The thief’s name is actually Nezumi Kozō which translates to mouse. He’s one of those characters with a super cool origin only those in Japan would be familiar with.
i know translations are necessary but giving him the name rizzo just ruin all the backstory lol :(
I know you are right about the Japanese thief but I always think of "Ratso Rizzo" from the movie Midnight Cowboy.
Interesting! :03
Rizzo one of my favorite characters. Ive known of this reference years ago.
Melba could also refers to "Pêche Melba" or "Peach Melba”, a desert consisting of a peach with ice cream. Idk if what you said with toast and ice cream is the same thing lmao so I'm pointing it out
Also Jakey is aslo a slur for someone who's homeless and alcoholic, and while the alcoholic part definitely isn't right he does live in a literal dump, even if it's technically in a house,
I like how he called Anabelle an anteater when she actually an armadillo 🤷♀️

@@gabriellavedier9650 @lockstin&gnoggin this sounds oddly familiar 🤔
Her skin pattern is of a pangolin
27:00 Also the catchphrase "mon chou" while literally translated is my cabbage in French, is actually a common term of endearment/belittling kiddy pet name similarly to how we call people cutie pie, pumpkin or munchkin (belittling may be extreme but you get what I mean, you call kids cute little names but if you call a fellow peer that it’s more of a "sit down the adults are talking" kindof name calling, or you’re just being cheesy with your partner lol). So that may be his catchphrase because he’s a super manly man who looks down to you because you’re just a kid in his eyes

Chrissy's japanese name is simply just Christine which was probably decided upon to fit with her sister, Francine. Why is it shortened to Chrissy? It might have something to do with the media trope of 'serious older sibling, fun-loving younger sibling' and that trope sometimes comes with the siblings having similar names but the younger one shortening it as a nickname because the full name is less fun
