This is my first time watching one of your videos. Very thorough. You know your stuff. I'd love to meet up with you next season and learn more. I have a decent setup but like everything still requires some fine tuning. Thanks for producing such great content. I am near Rocky Mountain House.
Like your boat setup I'm planning to get a jonboat and building a longshaft outboard the boat launch to the river is just down the street so hopefully ill see you out there someday
How awesome man.. ove said it before but I'll say it again. Your attention to detail and explanation is amazing. Happy for you finishing your season strong.
I found a spot on the NSR very similar to the video the gold was 50 feet from the waters edge and only on the surface did two days with high banker ended up with around 3 grams can't wait till next year
Hey man! First of all: love your vids! Keep'em coming! And my 2 cents from Hungary below. This is based on my own expericence on the Danube river here in Hungary plus the Rhein in Germany. Both have super fine gold. On the Danube it's usually -50, on the Rhein particle size is a bit bigger: lots of -20 to -50. I run a 12-inch-wide highbanker with a 75cm long top feeder (Hopper), with 60cm backed moss in it running to the top of it, plus a 1.4m bottom section, also with backed moss all the way. I can tell you, this thing catches everything! I use a 3700 gph electric pump, so my flow is probably a bit less than yours but still, it works fine, even on the clay we have here (lots of it, unfortunately). Shovel-wise I have similar rates to yours. Also, with less flow I go for a bit more angle. Even at 15° it caught everything (did that once by mistake, hehe :D). I usually run my setup at 11-12°. On top of the backed moss I use very fine 4mmx8mm expanded mesh. Gold is not big here, so I'm not risking losing any nuggets. So, based on the above, and because you're also after small gold just like I am, I just wanted to tell you that if I were you, I'd probably switch from the splitter to a longer setup. Especially that now you have a big badass boat and you're not limited by space anymore (SeaDoo). Don't worry about the more aggressive water flow, I'm pretty sure the moss can/will handle it. It's probably also a good idea to go backed moss all the way. If you go for more water, just set your angle a bit less steep. Plus you could finally get rid of that Le Trap... Oh and if you wanna get real crazy, you could try a straight hopper, put backed moss into it all the way to the top. Then put fine (4x8mm or a bit bigger) expanded mesh on the moss, also all the way to the top and use a clay claw. That's what I've been using and it works wonders. Anyways, like I said before: love your vids! Please do keep them coming! :) Cheers, Chris PS: let me know if this got you interested, I'm happy to send you pics of my setup if it did.
Hey, thanks for the ideas and thoughtful analysis. I'm always interested I'm seeing other fine gold setups. You can email pictures to the channel email address: utmostoutdoors @ gmail
North Saskatchewan river has always been excellent for prospecting. May have to head down this summer as the area i pan around the wapiti is currently on fire.
Good work yo, excellent summer of fine tuning, I see big cleanups coming your way! Sat phone prob a good idea and don't forget your rubber boots next time!!! lol, Way to get in a killer shoveling session right before winter froze u out by the looks of that drive home! All the best this winter season bud, cheers.
Fishing line tied to a pot around your camp can act as a warning and a way to scare a bear. Also Bear spray in a tent🙈. Have a scuba mask... Fox 40 whistle or bear banger will be much less dangerous
Seen a Black Bear suntaning on the hyway last Summer, pulled up beside him filmed him, cars stopped, so I Guided him off the road with my Van, drove back to otherside of Hyway, he tried coming back over to pal up, I drove 20 ft he stopped and stared..... When near wild life Stay Calm, I have a very Clam Spirit wild animals do not get Scared, Deer, Birds, squirrels etc.
Well you didn't disappoint. I like the way you break everything down, it makes for interesting content. This series is the way prospecting videos are sopose to be done. Well done.
Excellent video good tutorial on prospecting and zeroing in on streaks . I would do similar in my day and do perpendicular to the river shallow shovel wide trenches where allowed by the ground . To bad you fell a little short of your 1/4oz about .80grams /yard at 8 yards . Did you measure the angle of the gravel before it leveled off with the rich streak ? It too makes sense that the gold would only go up that angle just so far.
Thanks for watching Bart! I didn't measure the angle. I do find it interesting that when I first got the the gravel bar, it all kind of just looks like gravel... but then after enough pans, you start to recognize subtle differences and see the direction gold tents to take as it spreads across the bar. I still have lots to learn, and I'll share it as I go!
Hey man, great work. Maybe you could cut together a short vid for us showing you doing a test pan. Also, I've done some painstaking fractional classification of NSR gold, and overall found that 41% of the mass of gold is -70, and 28% is -50 to -70. Challenging to catch in bulk!
What are your thoughts on the moss in your main sluice? Is the increase in cons you would get with moss acceptable for the improved capture versus Dream Mat?
I'm always hesitant to post a hard and final thought on something until I've had a little more time with it, but given that my boat can handle the concentrates, I'll take the extra gold captured for now. I'm going to do some more testing on rough top conveyor belting next year.
I've watched a few of your videos now and I'm always impressed with the video structure and content. Overall the information and video as a whole is excellent.
Thanks for watching! I probably have close to 30 of the full length mining adventure videos hidden around this channel for you to find when you're in the mood... I'm using a 16 foot long Jon boat that I heavily modified with a 1/4" plate on the bottom to survive shallow water rivers. Ya feel like a dummy hahah went and watched your boat build vids, that is exactly what I want to build. I live in Saskatchewan need a boat that can handle the north Saskatchewan river. I’m going to be the same thing your doing soon here as full time as I can. Keep ‘em comin man enjoying them. 👍
Thanks for watching! Google "going for gold in Alberta". There is government website with a PDF that has everything you need to know. Rules are all explained there, and you can get your $50 prospecting license that is good for 5 years from the date of purchase.
Is that near Devon? I just bought my first equipment ever and I’m super excited to try it out once it’s spring. Any recommendations for a first time out? I live 20 minutes from the Devon river.
Prospectors point at Devon is a great start. It's picked over pretty good, but you will always find some gold there, and on a weekend you are sure to find other prospectors out trying their equipment.
@@UtmostOutdoors Thanks I fish at prosperctors point so i know exactly where it is, if you're ever in the edmonton area let me know im always up for talking gold prospecting and learning from people who have done it lots.
If you're shoveling in alberta you'll want a flare with some lower energy flow after the main box. But you need to be shoveling a good color count for those 2000 shovels to add up. I aim to not shovel anything less than 100 colors of gold per shovel. If you're not on good ground, time may be better spent with a pan just prospecting for richer ground.
I'm a little curious, but unfortunately I don't know. I don't even have a screen that fine. My 50 mesh already almost takes way longer to screen that I think it's worth. I usually only screen to 30 mesh, as any finer doesn't seem to help recovery much.
